  1. Probably a universe where his value is down. I guess the question with Thor is whether or not he can rebound. Given that the Mets think they can contend next year, I doubt Thor is on the market. Wheeler should be.
  2. just saw this: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/twins-troll-yankees-with-music-after-strikeouts/ar-AAEJmBc?ocid=spartanntp
  3. Of all our 40 man AAA guys, Thorpe is the one I think could be the most impactful, either as a starter or a reliver. I do hope he's here come July 31.
  4. I've seen two in real time... One was an unassisted TP and it happened so fast I was like … what? The other was an around the horn that I called right before it happened when I was in college... what's even more amusing was that it was in the middle of a spirited debate about whether or not Maguires HR record would be broken (I argued yes)… Should have bought lotto tickets that day.
  5. You're not. I've said it too. I don't like that K rate. Perhaps our analytics guys see something that could boost it a point or two, which I'd be a bit more comfortable with. I get that he gets grounders, but he doesn't miss bats. I wouldn't pony up the prospect capital to get him if Toronto is looking for an Archer type trade. That one will be regrettable I suspect. Giles on the other hand... yes please...
  6. mlb.com has their predictions up: https://www.mlb.com/news/20-predictions-for-2019-mlb-trade-deadline I find it amusing that Bumgardner stays but the rest of the Giant's chips get moved. They either all go or not go. I'd be thrilled getting Will Smith, but I'll be really disappointed if that's all we walk away with, as implied here.
  7. I think you're overpaying by throwing Duran in there personally. I think a lower 3rd piece could get it done. I'd be pushing more for a Gonsalves/Acala type. But that's just me. That said, I'm not a huge Stroman fan, so perhaps that's part of the problem.
  8. The funny thing about that trade was that Glasnow's value had all but tanked. He was a former top 50 prospect who was out of options and still strugging in Pittsburg's lineup. Tampa clearly new what he was missing (besides health) and got a couple other quality prospects as well. That's a big reason why I think teams would bite on guys like Gonsalves and Stewart. They won't be headliners, but selling teams need to be good at developing projects and have spots to do them (and as an added bonus, get to draft higher as those projects take their lumps). You're right that we don't have anything close to comparing to Glasnow... Perhaps Alex Meyer a few years ago might be the closest comp there. I don't even think Blasovic compares. He may see the bottom of the top 100 this year. Glassnow lived there for a few years.
  9. yeah, it seemed as if the Gardy run teams just tucked their tails between their legs and cowered... I don't see that with this team... Now the flip side, is that I'd like to see this team make a statement. Yesterday was a step in the right direction... Let's do it two or three more times.
  10. I've got to think some of this winter's Rule V guys would fall into play... as would some of our excess on the 40 man. I believe Alcala fits that bill, and I think someone like Gonsalves might be a good option as well. Gonsalves isn't high end, but his pedigree says he could be a decent ML pitcher and just needs developing (which Toronto has ample room to do).
  11. I want two relievers... I think overpaying for one right now would be beneficial. Cleveland is 3 games out... 3... This team needs a shot in the arm. Doing that might help.
  12. I think they'll do something this week (or next).. but to the OPs point.. not many FA signings have worked. Sadly, Parker is one of the better options... Other than really Ottavino, most of have been disasters. http://twinsdaily.com/blog/84/entry-11554-2019-season-fa-relievers-at-the-half-way-point/
  13. I doubt Gardy had any say in those draft picks. You can only hope his impression of them was favorable when they interacted. I'd add that none of those guys would headline a deal for Boyd. You might see Stewart or Gonsalves as a 3rd/4th type piece, but definitely not the main component.
  14. yeah, but 3 years is worth the offer. I'd have no problem headlining with Graterol and adding a few more pieces to get him.
  15. You didn't mention Matt Boyd, but that's probably a top name for a rotation piece next year. I'd argue that one or both of Gibson/Odorizzi should be potential QO/extension candidates... Pineda is slowly moving into that group too.
  16. Wonder if we could sign Nick Punto to a contract and trade him.
  17. yup... this is the one I want. I'm not too high on Greene (I'd rather go after Smith/Giles), but definitely Boyd and not against both.
  18. I'm thinking more post trade deadline. They've obviously cleared spots for adds. Once July 31 passes, if they still have open spots, I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Stashak got added.
  19. Problem with the internal options is the time needed to develop them. You're in a penant race... not the time to experiment with someone... Like Chief said, pay the price.
  20. Even if Cleveland wants to trade Bauer, I doubt they send him within the division unless they're punting on 2020 or at least making it much harder.
  21. wild pitches killed Pineda. I think teams have started to figure out the offense. Hopefully getting everyone back and firing on all cylinders will help.
  22. He most certainly is... 1999 of Chief's 2000 likes came from game threads
