  1. There are quite a few starters on that list... I suspect Dobnak will be in the rotation next season and Graterol will likely be in the minors prepping as a starter... Thorpe too for thatmatter... Flip side is that I'm fairly confident next season with a pen of Rogers, May, Romo, Littel, Stashak, and Duffey.
  2. I'd extend him. These types of deals get done in the spring and if he shows up in shape and ready to play, I'd say it's time to open up the check book... 4/50ish might be on the low side, but probably a lot closer if 1B/DH is in his future.
  3. I'd like to see him get another game or two in relief before I make that call. He got a ton of swinging strikes the other day, which is encouraging. I didn't like the 4 hits, but two were pretty weak and one was due to the shift if I remember right (not sure if the shift hit was a weak hit). It's hard to blame him for those... The real problem is Detroit and KC are more like pitching against an AAA team. The Yankees/Astros/WC winner won't be that.
  4. I thought he was added to the 40 man before midnight on Aug 31...
  5. I haven't looked at their roster, but are you saying they're exclusively RH as a team? Perez has been pretty dominant against lefties. I'd be fine letting him be on the roster for that Role so that Rodgers can take a late inning against the heart of their order.
  6. Pretty much this. Dyson is a Twin now too. I guarantee you they already know what Dyson told them. About the only chance something happens is if he happened to have an Xray or MRI done that wasn't given to the Twins to evaluate... and like SpyCake, I highly doubt it... If that did happen, then this will take off, but this report is likely just them making sure nothing happened and doing what any team would do in that situation... nothing more nothing less.
  7. If I remember right, one of those hits was opposite the shift too... Unless Gibby missed his spot, that's really not on him.
  8. Lewis was nothing special with the bat this season... I think the idea that the Twins like his bat now is probably a bit far fetched. I suspect this is more flexibility related... People have learned that having a 10th guy that can play multiple positions and hold is own with the bat is extremely valuable. If Lewis can occupy SS, 3B, or CF, he can play just about anywhere else too. Either way, I dont' expect to see him in 2020 unless he suddenly destroys high minors pitching.
  9. yeah, don't make it close. Sweep them, and it doesn't matter what Cleveland does.
  10. Perez should be fine as a loogy... That's about the only role I'd want him in though.
  11. It should be Buxton... but there's a really big IF in front of that. If he stays healthy... if he produces like he did this year... it will be Buxton. I think he's worked out the issues with his bat thankfully, but the health part is definitely something he's going to have to address, whether that's a bit more situational awareness when it comes to defensive acrobatics or figuring out how to bulk up/train in such a way to reduce his injury likeliness. If that doesn't happen, it's probably goign to be Sano.
  12. I think your top 3 are the correct picks. I could see them taking Thorpe and going with 12 position players... That's a 3 man bench as it is.
  13. How does Phil Hughe's first season here not make this list?
  14. The most obvious problem with this debate is we're talking about something that all teams practice... so having a study at all is pretty hard because you cannot find any kind of sample.
  15. 2020 will be interesting. I do hope they go out and get some help. I'm not sure how much I like the idea of staffing the rotation mostly internally. Too may spots for rookies in my mind. With Graterol, I want him starting until he shows he cannot (which if he keeps getting hurt, then this should be obvious). He's going to have an innings limit though, so whether they're letting him get some seasoning in Rochester or stretching him out in the ML pen for the first half of the season before handing him a rotation spot, I'm not sure.
  16. Yeah, Dobnak or Thorpe I think. I don't trust Gibson or Perez. Looks like we will be praying for rain quite a bit during the playoffs.
  17. Given what he's dealing with righ tnow, I really think he should be shut down. Nothing against the guy, I hope he gets his condition under control and has several more good MLB seasons... but right now his health needs to be his priority.
  18. I wouldn't put Graterol in the plans for next year. I'd have him starting in the minors and hope to get him into the 120-150 IP range next year... Now if he keeps getting hurt, I think there's a real conversation there about whether or not his future is in the pen.
  19. yeah, those are some impressive numbers... I think my point is mainly that we're in a bit of SSS territory before I'd use the word elite. Am I comfortable with these guys going into 2020? Yes. I'm not ready to crown them the mid-2000s Twins pen equivalents though either... And I really REALLY REALLY hope that Falvine makes some efforts to bring in good starters this offseason. This team could be really dangerous with some higher end starting pitching.
  20. If Garver maintained that pace and had another 20 games or so, he'd probably be in MVP discussions... that's a fan freaking tastic season that he's had.
  21. I think he was in the 20s or 30s... to be fair though, he played all of 3 games in 2017 because he shredded his knee... and he couldn't even crack an .800 OPS in his 2018 season. He took a while to get back from that injury.
  22. His real draw back is his power or lack of it.. He had a freak knee injury in the minors too that has probably dropped his stock a bit. Like others, I'm buying this stock. I think MLB has him rated too low. This kind of contact/plate discipline is pretty rare, and I think the Twins have their lead off hitter for the forseable future. If he can develops some power and can remain an average defender, he'll be one of MLB stars.
  23. Problem with pens is SSS... and while the last monthor two have been nice, we're still in SSS territory before we can safely say the pen is elite... For the most part, I'm fine going into 2020 with our current pen. I do hope they make some effort on starting pitching though... that window is open. I'm hoping that Falvey/Levine were right when they said that money will flow when the window opens.
  24. I'm not sure I'd go bull pen game unless the dates line up in such a way that you only need 3 starters... even then, I'd only consider it if the pen hasn't gotten much work in games 1 and 2 with a day off between game 3 and 4. wow...weird having this conversation. Let's hope we actually win a few games in the post season this year.
