  1. Not to state the obvious, but you will never hear from Greinke on that one. He had us on his list for a reason. We checked into it last winter and that reason still stood. If it was as simple as "you guys suck" then I think this conversation would have been had again. The fact of the matter is that this was discussed last winter when we were not projected to be this good (and our revenue was much less certain). If money wasn't an object then, it wasn't today when the team is winning and getting more revenue.. This looks like Occam's razor to me.
  2. Based on a few friends and colleagues, I'd say it's more of a Rocket's town... Flip side is that with it's population base, it's still a high revenue baseball town.
  3. yeah, not thrilled about them not being that aggressive... that's me personally. Perhaps they will show more this offseason. The core of the offense (minus Schoop) is set to return next year. And they have reinforcements in Rooker, Kirilloff, and Larnach, so they should want to do something about pitching.
  4. I think Romo and Dyson means that Rodgers becomes the primary fireman. He's the guy you're going to see with runners on. Romo, Dyson, Harper, and Duffey seem to be guys who can get that clean inning fairly consistently. You might see Dyson in a DP situation, given his GB tendencies.
  5. wolfson retweated something about Sam Dyson headed here from SF.
  6. Admittedly, in years past we broke it watching the MLB draft... this is an improvement... though I'm really hoping they pulled something off. I'd be happy with Mike Minor.
  7. I can see the headline now. Twins acquire Will Smith from the Giants but the paperwork didn't reach the league office on time.
  8. yeah, they can still trickle in for another 15 minutes or so, but I'm not hopeful.
  9. So is this Wolfson's opinion or did he get this from the FO?
  10. I think it's the Twins more likely to be concerned about dealing within the division than the Royals. They won't be relevant for the duration of that contract, they just want to get out of it.
  11. Really? Garver is putting up near MVP numbers as a catcher this year. No way he should be traded if the WS is at all something we want to get to.
  12. Unless his health cannot handle starting, I don't like that idea too much... For Sept/October of 2019, I suppose, but we cannot keep sending every good starter to the pen as people around here seem to suggest.
  13. if that was the ask, Falvey was right to hang up the phone. The Mets won't unload Thor with that type of ask. I'm guessing prices will come down. You're starting to see it with the Stroman and Romo trades. It should be pretty clear to the Met's brass that Thor won't get them that much. As for what I'd trade. I'm not sure. It really depends if the FO thinks they can fix him, because right now, Thor is not an ace. He was an ace. If they are confident that they can fix him, sure, I'd part with one of the big 3 as a headliner to bring him here.
  14. yeah, I think this was ultimately a good trade... They had no place for Diaz and got Romo plus some pitching help. I'm not going to complain. I will compain if this is it. Good article though. These are the types of articles that make TD a great place to visit. Well done.
  15. I think Odo signs his offer.... and if one was extended to Gibson or Pineda, they would too. The QO is a kiss of death to pitchers who can be described as decent but not great.
  16. Did I miss a report that said they wanted them both? I remember seeing something about one of them headlining a deal... but not both.
  17. The problem with this is that those guys likely not the ground running when they hit MLB. You've got to factor that development time in as well. I think you probably keep the best the option there, but I could definitely see them moving one of our top 3 pitching prospects for help that will be here longer than this year. Sure... you don't move them all, but for the right guy, you move one.
  18. That's fair, but I think it's right to say that Cron is on the ideal side of that metric. I do agree that he could potentially be upgraded, and if the cost is right why not... but... I would argue pretty vehemently that he's better than replacement. We've seen replacement level (or below) at 1B before. Cron isn't that. He may not be league average for 1B... but that doesn't mean he's a replacement player... if anything, it was a good acquisition for a fairly reasonable price. I'm not really liking our other options at 1B if we didn't have him.
  19. WAR stands for wins above replacement, does it not... Anything positive is technically better than a replacement player. I don't have a problem with them looking to upgrade Cron this offseason... You always look for upgrades, but I doubt a minor leaguer walks in and out performs him, and I'm not going to call him a replacement player.
