  1. A couple notes... One pitched in the AL. One the NL. That's going to skew the stats a bit whether we want to admit that or not. So I'm not sure I'd argue MadBum was the better pitcher considering he faced a pitcher in the 9 spot 2 times minimum per game. The other thing I cannot help but notice is that Verlander had quite a few more innings. I'm somewhat curious if that was due to SF being more conservative with his pitch count (1800 innings in 10 years isn't bad) or if he spent more time on the DL during that stint... Bumgardner isn't my first choice, but I do think he's not a bad option. The question to me is whether or not the analytics guys can find something to right the ship like Houston did with Verlander.
  2. Mike Minor isn't a FA... wonder if Texas would put him on the block.
  3. I certainly woudln't sleep on the Sox like the Indians did with us this year... But, I do think the White Sox are probably another year or two away yet from being a serious threat.
  4. unless they're getting Donaldson, I'd tender Cron... there really isn't much else out there unless there's another surprise cut like CJ was last year.
  5. to answer the question... no.... hell no... absolutely not. playing a little 1B to keep the bat in the linup sure... but moving there? No... You don't take someone that is playing at a near MVP level at a position such as C and move him to another position when you have nothing to replace him with.
  6. Berrios was #16 in 2019 in terms of WAR according to FanGraphs.. I'm not sure what people's definition of an ace is, but that's definitely better than a #2... Perhaps it's safe to say he's a #1 with upside of an ace if he can put it together, if people still think those are different categories. But if Berrios is not a top MLB pitcher, then I'm beginning to think we'd have a better chance finding bigfoot than an ace.
  7. Honestly, if he brings back good pitching, I'd say that bright future for MN is realized. He's blocked as of now, but with options left, it doesnt' hurt to keep him in the system and give him some MLB at bats if someone gets hurt... But if a MI needy team is willing to cough up a good starter to get him and another prospect or two, I make that move 11 times out of 10.
  8. I think this was a big reason why the mid-2000s Twins team was so much better than their expectations/pythag.... They had tons of options to go to in the pen... I think we might see something closer to that in 2020 if Duffy's transformation is legit and guys like Littell and May can take another step forward... I still want to go out and get Will Smith though. It would be nice if Rocco had 3 studs he could run out any given night.
  9. Hopefully, he still has some ceiling there and can put out a few seasons with a line similar to post June 28 Sano..
  10. I think this works well if you have 5 or 6 shut down options in the pen.
  11. Not a Syndergaard type is quite the description I'm more holding the FO to their words about spending money when the window is open... It's wide open right now. And I'm not exactly sold on Thor. He's not the same guy he was. Perhaps our analytics team sees something and can correct it, but he was not as good as Pineda, Berrios, or Odorizzi last season... Think about that. I'm not against acquiring him. I'm not sure he's worth major league pieces that the Mets are asking for nor the prospects they'd likely ask for as well. This is not the ace you're looking for.
  12. I'm not against a depth move as you suggested. I'm not sure we have much in the high minors that fits that narrative. Our most ready prospects to fill in are Gordon (for Arraez) and Raley in the OF. Trading Rosie opens up a hole in the OF. AK isn't ready now... neither is Rooker or Larnach… Cave should be a decent 3rd OF, but if/when Buxton goes down.. well... now it's a problem. I would say it's reasonably certain that we'd see a drop off in production in RF if that happened... and that's before I point out that I highly doubt Rosario, Arraez, or Cave gets that kind of return. I think that type of move might be better made next season if guys like AK, Larnach, and Lewis are all making a case to be in the majors.
  13. So here's the prospect question as I see it. Can they go out and spend them to get someone who would be a better bet to be better than the options in FA? If so, I'd say trade the prospects. I'd rather, however, use them to plug holes come mid season and spend real cash on upgrades in FA.
  14. I would say that it really depends on how well they play (and to be fair, it's a small number of players who are in MLB by 21)... I have zero problems with Lewis (for example) playing at the ML level next year if by chance he's good enough to be an above average player. But do you think he will?
  15. Honestly, given Buxton's inability to stay healthy, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Lewis ends up in CF.
  16. I think it will be a "competition" between him and Gordon, but it's his job to lose.
  17. Any chance you got John Sickles to contribute this year?
  18. I'm not against finding those diamonds, but this team is now has a pretty reasonable expectation of being in the playoffs and advancing... Those diamonds cost a rotation spot(s) and can rack up losses and ultimately not figure it out... You can only devote so much roster space to them... Dobnak, for instance, might be that diamond... so much so that I'd have no problems letting him have a spot, but I think you need something closer to a sure thing in there too... That's why I go get Cole or Strassburg if he opts out.
  19. I'm not sure moving Sano to 1st solves our fielding issues for what that's worth... It just moves a problem from 3rd to 1st and creates a hole at 1st. There's not much out there that could fix that, and I don't seen Sano as an upgrade over Cron defensively... He might be worse. Also, if $40 is what it takes to get cole or something of that caiber... pay it... I don't think the Yankees do that much for a pitcher (for the record, Trout got this season $39M with endorsments), but the bottom line is that if our payroll goes higher to get him, do it...
  20. I was thinking the same thing when I read this... Garver is the right answer, not disagreeing there, but I really expected to see a lot of votes for Buxton.
  21. That's definitely the goal, but I think that also takes time. If they want to do some one year temporary deals, then QO Odorizzi and resign Pineda... but I still think they need an ace to anchor it, and there's not one ready and waiting in the org at the moment.
  22. Gray moving out of Coors might surprise a lot of people... If the Twins see somethign that can bring down Boyd's HR rate, he's also one I'd target in their place. I was pretty hot for Boyd at the deadline. I'm glad that didn't work out.
  23. I think hate is probably a poor adjective to use here. I think people think that he's the easy one to trade and get pitching (I doubt that personally). It's definitely a question as to whether or not he's in long term plans as I suspect Buxton probably is (or possibly moving Lewis to CF at some point)... Eddie is a good but flawed player, so he's usually going to bring some consternation. He's doing better at taking pitches, but he still swings a lot at pitches he has no business swinging at and occasionally finds himself on the wrong end of an inexcusable play.
