  1. Oddly given a choice, everyone would trot out May over Tonkin. Again SSS. Given this team, at this time, I would easily send Jepsen down the road before Tonkin.
  2. You don't try for bonus points by trading players who don't perform when they get there, but you do get wins by trading for players that perform when they get here!
  3. Thank you. I read the whole article and the comments waiting for someone to notice that he can't catch! If he can, it better be off the ground when it gets to the plate. I don't know if his ball blocking abilities, or lack thereof, are career numbers, or a fluke. But currently they are alarming. Another thing that is alarming, is concentrating on offensive numbers in defensive positions. Catcher, SS, and CF. no, they can't all be black hole offensively at once, but you can carry a glove, or two. Or at least you should be able to with a team loaded with DH style hitters. Ugh!
  4. Pitching and defense is what you preach and try to be the most consistent at,” explained Kernels manager Jake Mauer this week, adding, “hitting tends to be more volatile.” Words to live by! Maybe th FO should be listening.
  5. I for one would like to see the good Meyer, just to see what it is. It obviously exists, or he wouldn't have gotten this far.
  6. I have him coming to moms basement for coffee early Saturday. Mom is going to tell him, nobody messes with mom! FO and managers have been at odds forever. But in this case it would be somewhat odd. Unless of course Molitor was Pohlads personal chocie, then oy vea. There is obviously some friction, Molitor was not on the same page on Sano. Bringing up Kepler and Polanco to sit made the team look clueless, The Meyer call up up for "emergency" pitching, when at the time no emergency existed. It's all odd and seemingly contentious. I preferred Dougie to Molitor, but figured, well at least neither is Gardy. Brock or Seth pointed out that Dougie is even more of a baseball dinosaur than Molitor? I don't know. I do know he grew up in the ranks with these players and there seems an affinity. As for Meyer, he was somewhat mishandled, but he has to throw the ball better, period. He also deserves the chance to sink or swim, and if it isn't in this time and place, there never was one.
  7. He needs to start Tues, and in 5 days after that. It's time to see if he can or can't.
  8. In Chiefs case, I think the term is suppository!
  9. First Berrios, and now apparently Meyer on Tuesday. If, and it is a very big if, these two guys could be moderately successful, it will be a very interesting mid season trading time. But that is putting the cart before Hannahs Horse!
  10. I think this is what Ryan has done with stocking offense over defense and pitching. But most sports are tilted towards a position, i.e. QB, Goalie, and to me in baseball it's pitching. You can get value for the buck buying undervalued positions, but can you win. Win enough to be a true contender? . Yeah, some injuries were involved. Which is SOP around here. If you can stay healthy, you can survive almost any performance, or lack thereof. Get injured, and you might not get back. We appear to operate in the "Wally Pip" mode. To me the Meyer thing is very odd. First they tipped over the roster, because we HAD to have pitching, then the starter goes -5 the next night, and we miraculously find all kinds of pitching. And Wed night down 3, he still doesn't get in the game in the 6th, a classic long relief spot. Either Ryan brought up Meyer and told Molly he didn't have to pitch him, Molly is being pig headed, or they think they are legitimate contenders, and going balls to the wall to win every game they can. Frankly the last option scares me the most!

  12. I was glad to hear that despite Jepsens travails, Molly has assured him that the job is his. Now if he was the long time successful closer struggling, yes, a vote of confidence would be normally in order. But he isn't. He's a fill in. And while no one knows how May, or Tonkin would do in the role, two things are apparent. One, they couldn't be worse, and two, it would be a great time to find out!
  13. There are two ways to look at this, and a comment. One is that playoff contenders do not have pitchers like Jepsen as a closer. So if your team makes pronouncements about having a legitimate chance to contend, his presence negates that contention. If you are in rebuild mode, a Chargois/Burdi type should already be on a flight to Mpls. As far as Molly's options, his current choices would have to be May or Tonkin. May has a lack of relief experience, and Tonkin seems to get frustrated. That said, I would take a shot at Tonkin and see if he can get his emotions in check. I do like his arm. As to his endorsement of Jepsen, what else can he say?
  14. . Do we really need to find things to complain about when our top pitching prospect has been promoted? Can we not just enjoy the show? Considering the amounts of alcohol ingested by TD posters, it's safe to says this is a "bottle half empty" crowd!
  15. If Duffey and Berrios are successful, it will be very interesting how Ryan handles this. Santana and Gibson are not going anywhere, so either one or both go back down. And if they don't, then you have to deal with Milone and or who? It's almost too early to find a trade for Nolasco, or anyone for that matter. Milone in the pen makes me go UGH! As for Meyer? They bring him up because the pen is gassed. Then don't pitch him because the game was close, and it's "not fair"? So we are waiting for a blowout to use him? He finally had a nice clean start to the year in Rochester, as a starter. Just what everyone wanted. And now he gets jerked around to an unused reliever? Things are never smooth in Twins Territory!
  16. Doc, well thought out and written post. I have two thoughts though. I agree on the point about not being able to build chanpionship teams, per se. You need a chance. But the Twins really didn't have that chance when stacked up against the AL. They could handle the Cental when it was weak, but were defenseless against the better teams. Almost to the point of embarrassment. Secondly, Ryan might have a desire to define his career, I am sure he does. But he has no need to save himself. Outside the guy behind the counter at the Post Office, no one in America has more job security. He might re-retire, but to hear the words, "you're fired" he is going to have to tune into reruns of an old reality TV show!
  17. I am not exactly sure why so many people just want to dump Tonkin. Especially on this BP staff. I think he was referring to Micheal!
  18. I am not exactly sure why so many people just want to dump Tonkin. Especially on this BP staff.
  19. I agree whole heartedly. But my enthusiasm for your article, is dampened by the knowledge that everyone knows who Ryans replacement will be. Just the initials will do! RA
  20. I can get Sano out with a good pitch. Mauer has proven of his career, that you can't do the same to him. I am not dissing Sano, I am a big fan. And frankly the last half of '15 I"m with you. But Joe seems to have recovered his mojo!
  21. If you build your roster around a plethora of corner/DH type players. You should be able to carry a catch first hit second defensive catcher. At least you should be able to..
  22. You might have to higher than that. Can anyone give a legitimate example of the Pohlads making an obvious, and legitimate effort to win. I mean WIN, as in being competitive enough to beat any team. You might not necessarily do it, but you should have the ability and chance. Even when we were winning those coveted AL Central titles, we were cannon fodder for the East. Ugh!
