  1. The greatest TV show ever broadcast in history. Or the worst. There doesn't seem a middle ground!
  2. For a bench player, Mastro. He can pinch run, and play defense. I don't think Plouffe will be back quite as soon as some think. There is no sense to bring up Vargas or ABW. the Twins are overloaded with corner IF and OF players, and even if ABW were on the bench, Kurt would still hit with the bases loaded and down 4, two outs in the ninth!
  3. They were waiting for just the right moment? Have North spell "favorite" for you.
  4. They were waiting for just the right moment?
  5. Did it start with the Sano Experiment? After Ryan announced Sano in RF, Molitor specifically mentioned LF as a preferred spot. Mistakes like that are not normally made. but RB is right about one thing, there is something odd going on, we are SO desperate for pitching we have screwed up the roster to a new level, then we jerk the starter after 4+ innings, and miraculously have so much pitching we don't need the new guy. Topped off by sending Kepler back to Rochester, and the guy who hands out AB's bemoaning Keplers lack of AB. It's sort of like me sitting in my chair, bemoaning the fact my lawn isn't mowed!
  6. I think you yell, "that's a balk" and point at the pitcher!
  7. That was a no brainer. Taking Nunez crazy BABIP out of the equation, Mauer is the only guy on this team to currently fear.
  8. You already have it nailed. Most locals go to Milwaukee to have fun. It's just over the border!
  9. I think you should make another attempt at sacrificing yourself!
  10. This is what you get with a reactionary GM. There are few proactive moves, so the dog just chess it's tail.
  11. I liked the idea they at least made an attempt to get a catcher, but I also believe that the timing and swiftness of the deal indicates TR was not unhappy to part ways with Hicks.
  12. Why are there continued references to "The Plan. There is no plan, even the Meyer call up is reactionary. The Duffey call up is reactionary. THERE IS NO PLAN!
  13. Plus using math on TD is highly discouraged, not to speak of confusing! Sometimes when I try the operator the dial won't roll all the way back, I even tried WD40 to no avail!
  14. Plus using math on TD is highly discouraged, not to speak of confusing!
  15. This from today's Trib: "Kepler, who batted .167 over nine games, didn't receive the consistent playing time manager Paul Molitor wanted him to get when he was called up to replace Danny Santana." Did I miss something? Isn't Molitor the manager? Does not the manager parcel out playing time? Was Kepler injured? Doesn't Molitor speak German? ACH der leiber! Or in the words of the greatest German officer of all time, "I KNOW NUTTING, NUTTING!"
  16. Nice article, Nick. Duffey did benefit from some "at em" halls, more like rockets, but that is baseball. Your piece did point out the standard Twins conundrum. Too bad to win, too good to get rid of, not enough value to trade? Gibson and Milone are very bad right now. BUT, there historical numbers give us a view of better days to come. So two pitchers are really better than their recent numbers, one of whom is not suitable for the BP? And the other three have stifling veteran contracts? So change is coming how? This is not a critique of either you, or your article. It's an observation on how difficult it will be to substantially change the makeup of this roster. It really is a shambles!
  17. I would predict a soon to be contract extension for Nolasco! Now I wish I could have typed that with tongue firmly planted in cheek, but my tongue just refused to do it. On a more serious note, it's kind of interesting that many cannot figure out how to make room for the incoming group of pitchers. If you won't bring in promising upgrades to a mediocre staff, it's a sure sign that your priorities are the P&L, and not the WL ledger!
  18. Sooner or later they are going to have to come to grips with the SP. if for no other reason that the current contracts won't allow them to simply wait until the contracts expire. It's still too early to trade anyone, other teams aren't settled in either. Barring an injury, the only real option appears to be Milone to the pen. And that's a bad idea. As for Dozier, he's being beat to death in two other posts! But if the Twins believe that he can or will change his approach to hitting, I would keep him. If he remains HR Dozier, I would trade him in a second. Personally I think he wants to remain HR BD. As much as I like Arcia, he is the odd guy out. You cannot put two guys like him an Sano in an OF, and lead the majors in lack of SO's! As long as Sano keeps catching routine pop flies, and demonstrates his athleticism, he is staying in RF. And if they don't have a catcher they like in MiLB as a starter, keep looking. Murphys hitting doesn't bother me, but his lack of blocking does. Ugh! It's going to be an interesting, and maddening June!
  19. I would agree with that. I thought early in ST he was simply trying to hit the ball anyway or how he could. He was basically jumping fastballs. Now he is more patient. But if he ends up going from 53 HR's to 20, that's fairly mundane. It will be interesting to see how they start to work him. They havent even begun that process. I will say this, he is certainly a different "type" of player than I imagined. He could easily have played NL ball, he doesn't seem to need to be just a DH.
  20. He is patient at the plate, and a better overall ball player than I imagined. I will find it odd if his SO's decline, considering the advanced level of pitching he is seeing. So far he has proven he can hit a fat belt high hanger very far. The question is how many of them will he see in the future. It's always fun to watch the battle of wits between pitchers and hitters.
  21. Hmm, possibly a stepping stone to replace TR someday? GM Gardenhires first announcement will be Nick Punto as manager!
