  1. Two general thoughts on the Twins pitching situation. If the FO has no issues with higher velocity pitchers, with both higher SO and walk rates than we are used to seeing, it has not shown itself in the last 20 years. In honor of Mother's Day, I quote her. "The proof is in the pudding" . Second, if Alex Meyer does not get an extended look as a SP on the ML level this year an oversight is being made. There is absolutely nothing to lose, and what's the worst that could happen? A three inning stint by a starter?
  2. I am not sure how "tongue in cheek" the comment was about removing Polanco for defensive purposes was?But any joke has to have substance to be funny, and yet another non defensive SS is not funny! Ugh! One thing is clear, the injury capped off a miserable two weeks for Esco.
  3. Things will be better tomorrow according to Dick. He just played the "we own Chris Sale card!"
  4. in an adult men's game I once gave a guy about 4 straight steal signs, and the hitter fouled off all the pitches. On the fifth sign, he yelled at me, "I ain't going, I can't run anymore"
  5. So Tomorrow night, by some miracle the game is within the realm of possibility, and May is T best good for one inning? This is a weird year!
  6. The last time I saw a player point at second to see if he was supposed to steal was in 9 yr old ball! Oh wait...........
  7. I saw this in a Rand column today. He quoted Rueuse and ESPN, saying its been since 1930 since a runner was thrown out at third, down a run with 2 out in the ninth, ala Sano. That seems almost impossible to believe. On a sad note, I also heard his manager was so upset with said player, that he is no longer in organized baseball!
  8. I wonder how Hugh Glass would have handled the news that O'Rourke was optioned? Crawling to Target Center on 94 to seek revenge on TR might have been iffy! And using the North Star line takes some of the intensity out of the trip!
  9. It makes no difference what you wore to mow dads lawn, the fact you mowed it is all that counts. You can always get other clothes, dads are hard to replace!
  10. Everytime I think of Taylor and the woofies, and want to commend him on his recent decisions, I think of how many years it took him to make one. And I go back to the corner of moms basement.
  11. I agree, it's important to keep the two issues separate. In most organizations the FO sets the roster, using many different criteria than strictly talent. The manager manages what given. When the two views don't meld, chaos can't evolve. But, I should remind you, before you give Molly a pass, remember it's him who writes Plouffes name on the lineup card!
  12. The only possibility of change is that Ryan would announce his retirement after 20 very successful years in Twins management. The team will have a huge promo next May, and give him the keys to a new Road Glide! As for an in public dismissal, Catholic priests will be getting married before that happens. Molitor? First off he still has 4 90 loss seasons to pile up before the ax swings. But in reality, if he was Jims guy, he isn't going anywhere, and if he is Ryans guy, Pohlad has not seemed the type to force that issue. And all to what gain? Anthony for Ryan? Ugh. Molitor for interim Gardy, with the surprise announcement in Oct, that due to the remarkable turn around, Gardy gets a new 3 year extension! Change here is minute. Even the blockbuster announcement of the Fien and Milone thing will really still have little impact.
  13. Well put, and in fewer words than I could have. Sadly I still think nothing will truly happen, players will eventually change, the culture will not.
  14. Well put, and thank you. I totally agree on the knee jerk reaction issue, and I might add injury initiated reaction also. I do think if you go back in time, many Twins promotions are injury related, and few are performance related. If you are a "behave yourself" veteran who is not actually completely in the tank, there is almost no chance of losing your position to another player. And I cannot believe minor league players are not aware of the fact that their future is not in their hands, it's in someone else's knee or elbow! I remain convinced that the actual players are not as bad as shown, but the roster construction is. You just cannot take a defensive team of this quality?, and put them behind such a non dominating staff. And the idea that you will make up the difference offensively is a fools errand!
  15. Park has pleasantly surprised me. I do think there is another chapter to be written. He feasts on hangers, and while they are inevitable, I still think he will see more and more hard stuff. I am pleasantly surprised by Arcia. He has changed his hitting style quite a bit. The results are subtle, but evident. He is never going to be a gold glove OF, but the effort is there. Last night on Altuve's (?) double he was covering backing up second base. But since the Twins don't believe in PH as a rule, really believe that Sano is an OF, and think Platoon was a war movie, I do think his future lies elsewhere.
  16. Nothing gets a manager in more trouble than playing favorites, and holding a grudge too long. Not even discipline or language or game decisions. I don't think Molitors doghouse is too deep, but either he plays favorites, is trying to show up Ryan, or is the most stubborn manager around. Not being in the clubhouse, I don't know if we can tell. But something is amiss. And if Molitor is a veterans manager, hired to lead a young rebuilding team, that would be just another example of the Twins Way. Insular to a fault!
  17. Well said. This whole thing is becoming almost humorous, in a sad way!
  18. But do the stats differentiate from someone who is taking the ball the other way, going with the pitch.or trying to pull outside stuff, and ending up with soft fly balls in the middle. It's a completely different approach, and generally yields completely different results. With the exception of one Izard game last week, where he had I think 3 RF hits, and looked like he was trying to do so, he seems to have reverted to pull happy. In closing, if this was only from April, I would be more inclined to take luck into account. But since the league started really seriously pitching him away, he has struggled.
  19. Sometimes metrics are useful to explain something that's a mystery. And sometimes they are useful to explain something that is obvious! This case is the latter. Dozier can be one of two kinds of hitter, but he cannot be both. He can continue to try and jerk everything into the LF corner, which likely will result in the BD you now see. Good for maybe 15 smiling trips around the bases, 12 of them solos. And a ton of pop ups, and blowing up the assist numbers of SS around the league. Or he can use his fairly decent eye, and plate presence to be a ok OB hitter, fair defender, and pretty good baserunner. Once in awhile someone will throw him a cookie, and he can hit another 336 ft HR. But he can't do both. He has no natural power. And if he keeps thinking he does, what you've seen, is what you wil get. And to that you can add what recently appears to be somewhat of a lacksidasical effort at 2B. Frustration? Who knows. Anyway, as long as he tries to cover the outside of the plate by pulling the ball to left field, those soft fly balls to CF, will not be turning into line drives anytime soon.
  20. The Mendoza Line? Is that when your three hits travel a total of over 200 ft?
  21. Famous last words! "Don't worry, the gun isn't loaded", "these oil rigs are 100% safe", and "bring in Casey Fien"
  22. No, and I am typing this AFTER the double!
  23. Spendimg the day in tears? Is that you Dick Bremer?
