    Arraez was on pace (162 games) to score 108 runs, drive in 25 runs and have 201 hits with a slash line of .299/.347/.372 (.719 OPS) for the Marlins, only one Marlin batter had more than 70 RBI. He was on pace (162 games) to score 88 runs, drive in 41 runs and have 220 hits with a slash line of .318/.346/.398 (.744 OPS) for the Padres, batting in front of Tatis, Profar, Machado, Merrill, Bogaerts and Croenenworth, 4 of whom had 83 or more RBI (Tatis was on pace for 78 RBI, Bogaerts 65). HIs Marlins start was not slow. The Padres had better hitters behind him. He was going to score more runs for Miami. He was 4th in MLB AVG, 28th in MLB OBP, 100th in MLB SLG, and 77th in MLB OPS. He was -13 OAA defensively at 1B and 2B. His whole game revolves around his AVG. When that starts to fail he will be out of MLB.

    There were 28 MLB SP that threw at least 130 IP and averaged 95 MPH on their 4 seamer, less than 1 per team. Lopez averaged 95.1, Ryan 94, and Ober 91.7. SWR averaged 93. I don't think anybody on here expects him to be more than a mid-rotation SP, but a 5 man rotation made up of all #2 and #3 starters should do alright.

    Agree that he probably ran out of gas at the end of last season - after his August 21 start he had 22 starts, 112.1 IP (5.1 IP/start), a 5-3 record (team record 15-7), 3.69 ERA (3.92 FIP fwiw), 13 HR allowed with a 99/35 K/BB ratio. Over his last 6 starts he had 21.1 IP (3.6 IP/start), a 0-2 record (team record 2-4), 6.75 ERA (5.14 FIP fwiw), 3 HR allowed and a 18/13 K/BB ratio. He, like the rest of the team, tired/faded down the stretch

    I agree with the first paragraph - to a point. This is the first year of Pablo's big $$$ and the highest salary in Correa's contract, and the team is in the middle of looking for a new ownership group. I think they are in their "window," but 2025 was always going to be a "win with who's here" season. There is approximately $30 MM coming off the books after this season, but Kirilloff's retirement (and lack of development) and the development (or lack of) so far of Wallner, Larnach, Miranda, Lewis, Lee, Julien, Martin and, to a lesser point, Camargo have hand-cuffed FA signing/trades that may help the offense. Pitchers develop a little differently than position players (anybody foresee Gil as ROY), but I like where the rotation is, and, I think, they are trying to develop this talent instead of trading for it. Guys like Varland, Matthews, Festa, Raya, Morris, Paddack and even SWR will compete for the rotation, but may wind up helping more from the BP. Having exhaustively said that, I think I have seen enough trade player(s) XXX for player(s) YYY articles for a lifetime.

    Work has me in upstate NY in early March, so a second trip to the HOF is on tap. I will also be a couple of hours outside Atlanta in mid-April and have purchased tix to see the game against the Braves on April 20.

    No business owner is going to knowingly operate at a loss. The team has about $30 MM in guaranteed $$ coming off the books after this season, a few players will get significant bumps in arbitration (Ober, Ryan, Lewis???) and only Miranda and Sands become arb eligible.

    Since umpiring and robo umps was brought up, how about MLB and MLB umpires start enforcing the rule that catchers must have both feet in the catchers box or a catcher's balk can be called. Would keep the catcher more centered behind the plate, which allows the umpire to do so also, taking the guess work out calling pitches that miss away from where the catcher is set up.
