  1. Again, not sure how willing the Twins are to move him but a package around Zach Lee could be interesting. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/danny-knobler/19590756/dodgers-like-hamels-but-may-not-have-enough-to-get-him
  2. Easier but still not the same. Spanish is his native language, I have no idea how good his English is. So maybe the Twins want him in Florida for less culture shock and get him ready for E-Town or Beloit next year. At least, that's my guess.
  3. There might be other issues in play here other than can he strike out players in A ball. The Twins might want Berrios to get accumulated to life in the states, improve his English, work on education/finance issues etc. They might want him to not worry about baseball as much right now.
  4. Clinton's 3am ad was fantastic and I actually thought McCain's celebrity ad against Obama was pretty good, too.
  5. I think this article is, mostly, right on but I'm not sure if they held on to Span and Willingham I'd be disappointed. Liriano will be gone and probably for low A pitchers that the Twins think will help in a few years. A market for bullpen pieces could develop giving some value for Capps, Burton or Perkins or the Twins could keep all three. It'll be interesting to watch the explosion here if Capps option is picked up.
  6. Next year, I'd imagine.
  7. But perhaps an exaggeration.
  8. -sigh- Can we talk about politics next?
  9. Diamond, De Vries and Walters have more experience than Hendriks in the upper levels (AA, AAA and MLB). Hendriks just needs reps, he'll be fine in the long run.
  10. Ryan resigned him. And, unlike what the OP said, Ryan was aware that Capps could get the Twins a pick in the supp draft. Star Tribune had an article on it at the time.
  11. It's good that the rumors are starting to come in but I think other teams might be better fits (i.e. more desperate) for bullpen help or another starter than the Angels.
  12. Becker wasn't an avg player, he was a bad player. For a guy who claims the Twins FO is out of touch, it's a bit of a reach for you to compare slash lines to make your claim. Span has already doubled Becker's career WAR, in fewer seasons.
  13. I'm not too concerned about this draft, although like Garroch (the minorleagueball writer - not Sickels) that I wish the Twins had been able to spend a bit more and bring in a guy like Marvel. I think the Twins have done a nice job adding talent through the draft and latin america over the last couple seasons - Buxton, Harrison, Felix Jorge etc - but it'll be a long time until we know if those moves are successful. The attacks on Ryan are getting old. I think he'll be fine. Additionally, I'd love to know how much (in all areas) the Pohlads limit spending. Was Ryan told he could only spend about 11.5 in this draft or that he couldn't go over and get a penalty (which would drastically lower that 1m accusation).
  14. I like Diamond but Darvish, Parker, Chen, Smyly are probably having better seasons.
  15. Get out of here with your facts and logic. People are ranting here.
  16. Yep, TR et al don't have a plan at all. Just been shooting from the hip all these years.
  17. "Crash and burn" isn't determined yet. It doesn't look good but, as I mentioned before, he could go higher, get more money and still make millions in his free agent contract - he's pretty young. And, since he's a pitcher, it might make more sense to get as much money now as opposed to waiting for some big free agent date down the road.
  18. Well, I guess that depends on whether the Jays view Liriano as a "high upside" starter. Here's hoping.
  19. Well, Pirates didn't sign Appel. Generally, I think it's good news for the Twins since it'll add a little more depth to next years draft - presuming he doesn't get hurt, of course.
  20. Capps and Liriano aren't likely to bring in a top 100 prospect (unless the market changes) so it makes sense for the Twins do look for some high upside guys in A ball. That's how Liriano got added to the AJ deal in the first place.
  21. Parmelee, Mastro and Doumit would probably all get some time out there. Maybe they bring up Thomas or Matt Carson? If he continues to play well, Hicks could be a sept call-up.
  22. Under the new CBA, if Liriano was offered arbitration (avg salary of top 125 salaries -estimated to be about 12.5m) and signed with another team, the Twins would get a supp pick and that teams highest pick, so long as it's not a top 10 pick. (P. 89 of this link : http://mlbplayers.mlb.com/pa/pdf/cba_english.pdf) That said, no one would outbid the Twins for Liriano if they offered him arbitration so we'd have him back.
  23. True. As a Twins fan, I think we should hope that Appal and Gausman don't sign - it'll give more depth to next years (so far underwhelming) draft. But I still think both sign.
  24. For now. But I'm working on a ode to Kendell post that should shatter it.
  25. No way, that's just negotiating tactic. No one goes back to college to win the college WS. He'll sign.
