    Yeah, I still hope he's a longterm starter but it does look like he could be an asset out of the pen this year for the big league club.

    Well, tonight's episode was kind of the opposite of last weeks - really, really bad. Torturing and burning children is usually not good television. Still isn't.

    I was a little surprised. He hasn't really looked good in AAA after his first handful of games and it's the PCL so I thought they'd let him get a bit more comfortable with advanced pitching. But his walks and strike outs look pretty good so maybe it's just noise. Anyhow, he's a very interesting prospect so we'll see how he does.

    I didn't mean it as an insult. I meant it as a guy coming up from the minors and being a nice sparkplug for the team.

    I guess I might be missing something but the piece said that he was placed on the DL at the end of last season and that the Twins had hoped to use him as a reliever. Wasn't that the information you were requesting?

    Until he slumps, yeah. I think he's this years Danny Santana.

    I think Vargas is actually on a relatively short rope - if Arcia starts to hit and he's not, I think the team will make the switch.

    I think the Twins do what the White Sox did. Sign everyone else and then negotiate with Cameron. He's not going to college. The Twins will offer him a bit more than slot. He'll sign.

Means he'll start with his new team on a treatment program and another failure will require a suspension. Pegged as a late first round guy, BA doesn't think it'll impact him too much in the draft, although I could see a team using it against him if things were close. I don't see this making him drop to #73 but I can hope.

    My guess is that Cameron signs just like Rodon last year.

    He only played in 10 games in May, doesn't really tell us anything. And Molitor wasn't starting him as often in May either. He could be a AAAA player - Klaw thinks he is. His strike outs and walks haven't looked great at the ML level so let him figure a few things out in AAA.

    Klaw has said that FIP numbers for minor leaguers isn't very useful.

He thinks Molitor's main priority is to win today's game and worry about tomorrow later. He sites as examples using the better bullpen pieces even with big leads, asking Mauer to bunt or making Perkins work more than an inning. Reusse wrote: "I hate the sacrifice bunt intended to move a runner from second to third with the fervor of Earl Weaver. And if Swihart, a rookie, had not panicked and had made a chest-high throw to Sandoval, the return throw to first would have had Mauer by 5 feet and Molitor would face his first serious second-guessing. That said, the bunt was more evidence about what has impressed me the most about Molitor so far: His decisions are based on winning “this” game. He’s not worried about hurting a star player’s feelings, or getting everyone in his bullpen a preferred level of work, or pushing a trusted reliever a tad over the line, if those things increase the chance of the winning the ballgame that is front of him. It’s hard to say how much of a contrast this is to Ron Gardenhire’s approach, since the starting pitching was such a mess during the losing seasons of 2011-14 that it was more about survival than a philosophy. I’m fairly certain of this: Whether out of seeing it as an insult to a three-time batting champion, or a belief that this was where a guy making $23 million was supposed to deliver, Gardy would not have asked Mauer to bunt."

    I read an article a few years ago on fangraphs or baseball analysts or somewhere about line-up construction. The first point is, it really doesn't matter much. Fans always overrate it. But the second point was you want your best hitters in the 1,2 and 4 spot. They said the 3 spot was overrated and you just want a guy who can get some RBIs and your 5th spot should be all power. Go for broke in the 5 spot, IIRC. So anyway, I think Molitor's line-up is about as good as it can be right now. The 3 best guys are in the 3 most important spots.

    Speaking of Gordon, I found this interesting. In the last BP chat, Rubio was asked which prospects will make the jump up into the top 50. "Mauricio Rubio: I think Nick Gordon, Kyle Schwarber and Nick Williams are going to make strong cases for jumping into the midseason top 50. Reynaldo Lopez should have a case as well, and I have a feeling Reese McGuire is going to make a big jump." I admit, I was really surprised to hear that but maybe scouts are hearing something beyond the box score?

    Coming into the year, I was really hoping he'd fall to us. Then there were a ton of rumors about the Astros being locked on him, although those aren't as strong anymore. I don't think we'll draft him and he's not the guy I hope we get. But I sure wouldn't be upset if he fell to us. He could easily end up the best player in this draft.

    May credited Rick Anderson with calming him down and helping him fix the walking issues late last season. I think most of the credit should go to May - he knew he had an issue, he worked hard to fix it and now he looks like a solid middle of the rotation starter.

    Not sure we've noticed this that much but Detroit is in a nice little death spiral. They've lost 7 in a row and haven't looked too good. One game over .500.

    Yeah, I was really hoping Arcia would come up and take over DH. They really need to address that.

    Interestingly, Bob Nightengale of USA today reports that Aiken merely had a tear in his elbow last year. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2015/06/01/jacob-nix-2015-draft-astros-signing-bonus-bonus-pool/28327615/ This could be sloppy journalism but if it was just a tear, that would mean most of the TJ concern wouldn't really matter.
