  1. And when that happens, they have some depth (Milone, Berrios, Duffey hopefully Meyer gets fixed and E. Santana) to back them up.
  2. Getting Arcia back at DH and Santana sent to AAA (Escobar to short) might help the offense a bit.
  3. I thought McDaniel referenced that as well?
  4. And SI has their mock up as well - http://www.si.com/mlb/2015/05/22/mlb-mock-draft-full-first-round-dansby-swanson-dillon-tate Has the Twins taking Tyler Jay.
  5. TR traded away vets all the time. Hell, people used to complain that Ryan wouldn't lock guys up and kept replacing them with unknowns. Ryan knows what he's doing.
  6. It can be both. And Rosario's promotion (and Santana's last year) suggest that the Twins don't just consider stats when promoting (or not promoting) players.
  7. Berrios was 20 when I wrote it but yeah, this is his age 21 season. As to the others - Gordon skipped the GCL so that was the "skip" (from callis - "The Twins thought enough of Gordon and his makeup to skip him over the Gulf Coast League and send him to the Appy League last summer, so he's already on a faster track than many high school draftees entering the 2015 season."), Kepler did AFL, etc. I could have named others that have skipped levels including Hu, Gonsalves, Arcia etc but the point remains, the Twins aren't slow on promotions when the players are ready. As to Ryan's comments, this is Ryan. He says this all the time. And I'm not sure if a lot of other teams would call up guys who still are learning in the minors. The big name guys that have come up this season have absolutely dominated (Bryant, Russell, Thor). Even Houston, who has arguably the best SS prospect in baseball and whose regular short stop is injured, is keeping him in AAA for awhile. None of our three guys is (today) forcing the issue yet, although Sano is getting there. Give them some time and don't add to it by setting some arbitrary date. When the starting rotation needs a new starter, Berrios will be discussed. When Sano and Buxton have shaken off the rust and adapted, they'll get promoted.
  8. Plouffe seems most deserving. Hunter is also among the top RF in the AL right now, too. I think Perkins makes it since the manager will want some shut down closers for the late innings.
  9. Nice article. I like that he has added a new pitch and has some success with it. Hopefully, it'll continue and he wins comeback player of the year.
  10. Almost certainly (90% or better) unless injured: Berrios, Burdi, Polanco, Sano, Buxton, Harrison, Probably (50% or better) Kepler, Reed Maybe (10-33%) Turner, Walker, Michael, Baxendale I think the rest don't have much of a chance
  11. 6ip, 0er, 1bb, 3h, 12k. So, yeah. That was pretty solid.
  12. The Ghost of High Heart called it.
  13. Over the years there have become some ideas expressed too often that people think they are true and the "Twins don't promote" one is probably my least favorite. Berrios is 20 and in AA - the Twins moved him 3 levels last year and let him pitch in the WBC and have praised the ever loving **** out of that kid. They freaking love Berrios. Buxton, Sano, Stewart, Gordon, Walker, Kepler are just a few of the recent prospects who have played multiple levels in recent seasons.
  14. Well, the first problem is that several of the male characters you have are not main characters. In the books, Varys, Robb, Littlefinger, Stannis and Tywin are never POV guys and aren't actually in the books that much. We are told about their schemes but it's not really character driven, it's plot driven and they are the vehicle that Martin uses to advance plot. I don't think any of them are terribly well defined characters, although Stannis is probably the most developed in the books. (The TV show did a much better job of flushing out those characters). You and Levi certainly have a different view of Dani in Dance of Dragons. I like the storyline and how hard it is to rule a foreign culture. I don't see it as a lessening of her character but I can see why you might. I certainly don't see any flaws of her that are gender driven. I'm not going to argue that Martin writes women better or not. Others can do that. I do think that his female characters are generally a lot more complex than the majority of female fantasy characters I read growing up - ASOIAF is a ton better in all respects to the Wiess/Hickman Dragonlance novels, for instance. I do, however, think all POV characters have something in them that is "respectful" - even Oakheart had his failed nobility. I don't think his female POV characters share some similar emotional flaw as compared to the male POV characters.
  15. In the book or the TV series? In the books Arya is everyone's favorite character. Brienne is a fan favorite taking on the noble knight role. Cercei isn't stupid - she's reckless and lacks wisdom but is a solid villain. Sansa has grown in the books and her biggest mistake happened in the first book. And obviously Dani is a much more complex and well rounded character in the books, neither obnoxious or stupid. Asha is the most competent person on the Iron Isles. I think those are the main female POV characters with the exception of Cat (who I thought was a bad character but might hold promise as an undead zombie), Arienne Martell, who I thought was a nice addition but we haven't seen enough of her and Melissandre who only had one chapter but is clearly an important figure. In the show, I do think the characters have suffered some - Asha is basically gone, so is Arienne. Dani is not as complex (although in fairness to the writers, it's hard to do her storylines justice). Cat was actually better on TV then the books (good actress). Arya isn't too bad, again, she has a pretty hard story line to go with but I think the series is doing it as well as practical. Sansa is off the rails. Melissandre is perfect. In the TV show, Olenna Tyrell may be the most competent woman the last few seasons.
  16. No, he's their Buxton. Sano and Santana would be pretty intriguing if you were Cleveland. I think they'd do that but I'd be against it for the Twins.
  17. Generally, the Twins aren't afraid to promote from AA but I wonder if the Twins won't kick Sano to AAA and put him in a corner OF for a bit before coming up here (all this assumes he keeps hitting like he has in May). In any event, when the team starts bringing up talent - be it Sano or Buxton, Santana or Milone - those guys will be replacing lesser players and they won't be replacing guys like Plouffe. The guys losing at-bats or innings will be Robinson, Vargas, Schafer etc
  18. Of course they don't.
  19. Agreed, in the books Sansa will be fine - and I think she has grown. Martin has said the death of Lady was supposed to make Sansa off kilter for a while. She's learning how to play the game of thrones in the Eyrie and will end up killing Littlefinger. In the TV show, they just keep making her the damsel in distress.
  20. I agree but I also wonder if quantity in pitching might be better than we think. Obviously, we'd like both elite pitching and a lot of it. The reality is that a bunch of "crappy" pitchers have had some pretty good seasons for us over the years (Blackburn, Slowey, Baker, Radke, Duensing each had at least a 2 WAR season as a starter). If Duffey, Berrios, Rogers, Burdi, Milone etc can keep the Twins staff afloat, while elite bats come up, that might be good enough to keep the Twins in contention. Since the injury/washout rate to pitchers is so high - Dylan Bundy might need another surgery, Mark Appel, Meyer and Stephenson are struggling in AA, Jon Gray is struggling in AAA etc maybe quantity in pitching is more important than elite level whereas elite bats are safer and therefore more dependable?
  21. Oh, they are basically two games up on the Twins and everyone can see the Twins finishing below .500. We are way too early into the season to worry about winning clips. They run off a 5 game losing streak (which they will), it all changes.
  22. Harrison is still hitting a solid .286/.376/.435 in AA while among the youngest players in the league. He continues to lead that Southern league in doubles (and actually all of AA) and is 14th in OBP. (Although Kepler might overtake him in doubles soon). His 44 hits is 16th overall in the league. Because he's on probably the best minor league team, he scores lots of runs - he's 3rd in AA in runs scored. So he continues to look like a professional hitter with solid doubles power and good on-base skills.
  23. They've been playing a bit over their heads too and, unlike the Twins, have some players having insane starts to the season. Angels will catch them and I still think they'll finish under .500.
  24. Any word on the Twins and Nikorak or Allard? I've seen some link the Twins with Allard (Klaw, McDaniel) but nothing on Nikorak. Have you heard anything more indepth on those two?
  25. Considering Law was probably Berrios' fiercest critic, that's pretty good news. Nice to see Buxton 3 and Sano 10 after their slow starts. I knew about Correa's fast start but hadn't really noticed Seager's start.
