  1. Garver would be a disaster at 1B. Hands of stone.
  2. I'm amused by the outrage over Kepler getting hit. Every player on both teams knew exactly what happened, and why, and none of them had a problem with it. There are "unwritten rules" ("norms" if you prefer) in every job.
  3. players without power are inherently flawed as hitters. Arraez will need to develop some, or he won't be a regular, because its extremely doubtful he'll maintain either his current BA or OBP. And for the record, I dont think either Punto or Revere suffered because nobody told them not to worry about power.
  4. Step one: no more multi inning outings from Rogers for the remainder of the regular season. Step two: dunno. Hope for a lotta at'em balls, I guess.
  5. One other thing...the lack of bullpen options bit the Twins again in this game. Rogers pitched 2 innings the day before, and he hasn't been good when asked to come back the next day after a multi inning outing. In fact, ANY back to back situation has been a little dicey. Small sample size, but still. His command wasn't good, and he wasn't hitting 97 like the day before.
  6. well the box score says 10, so by any traditional accounting, or common interpretation, 10.
  7. In addition to the inexplicable send by Diaz, a couple other points that worry me or disturb me: Berrios velo down again. Worrisome, IYAM. Annoying: Garvers AB in the 9th. Looks at 3-0 fastball center cut, ends up K'ing on ball 4. Gotta be swinging 3-0 there, IMO. How does the bunt go for a hit in the 10th, when every person in the western hemisphere knows he's bunting?? Terrible.
  8. Nitpic: Geatti actually said "it's hard to throw with both hands wrapped around your throat."
  9. They do "KATOH" rankings on Twins Daily? Dang, I need to visit the minor league page more than twice a year or so, I guess.
  10. By that time there were already questions about Gordon's offense, Jay was already looking like a reliever at best, but likely a bust, and Zach Granite was never, ever going to be a MLB regular, at least on a good team. Zero power OFers don't hold onto jobs long. That's why I have trouble believing that was the ask from Pittsburgh. And another reminder why I trade minor leaguers for big leaguers at the drop of a hat. Particularly a big leaguer with Cole's arm.
  11. From the link: "The 2017 midseason KATOH+ projections estimate that Granite will contribute 6.8 fWAR through his six team-controlled MLB seasons, while Gordon will accumulate 6.3 worth of fWAR across his six seasons." And this is why I seldom visit Fangraphs. Zach Granite. I hope to heaven we didn't actually turn down that trade. That can't be correct, can it?
  12. $10M isn't a difference maker, but we're "well positioned" because they saved $10M?
  13. They were eating "boneless" wings?? Fully deserving of every ounce of ridicule and scorn heaped upon them. Those aren't wings. They're chicken nuggets.
  14. Perhaps one lesson to be learned is, waiting until 5 minutes before the store closes before shopping can lead to poor purchase decisions.
  15. I don't understand how July 2019 was too early, but December 2019 will be perfect. It seems to me the only thing different will be the 2019 season will be over. What else? I also don't think that adding difference makers in MLB is like shopping on line at Amazon. You can't just wait until the perfect time to buy, there isn't an unlimited supply of the item you want. I don't think Houston made a conscious decision to wait a year to buy Justin Verlander. I think when they did, they realized the opportunity to do so was rare and fleeting, and they better do what's necessary to complete the sale, because tomorrow there most likely won't be a Justin Verlander available for purchase. I think they would have gladly made that purchase a year earlier, but they couldn't.
  16. we're going to need spots for every minor league pitcher of note, but not one OF prospect can take Rosario's spot? Not sure that's realistic.
  17. That's the exact situation I specified. 3 run lead or less, Rogers gets the 9th. He's been the closer for weeks now. Pretty sure I even remember Rogers getting the 9th with a 4 run lead. Who was the last pitcher to start the 9th in a save situation other than Rogers?
  18. who has gotten a 9th inning save opportunity other than Rogers since the AS break? Other than, uh, new guy.
