  1. unreliable small sample size, added to unreliable small sample size, is suddenly considered reliable, just because you now have more of the unreliable data. Doesn't compute, IMO.
  2. For one thing, I imagine Minneapolis guaranteed a certain amount of available hotel rooms for that week in order to get the Final Four.
  3. Concur 100 percent. Morneau was the better player between he and Mauer.
  4. While I'm also not a fan of bunting, even for hits, there are times when I do think it would be a good idea for LH hitters, facing extreme shifts with 3rd base abandoned by the defense, to bunt for a hit. Kepler and Rosario, for example, should be able to bunt for a hit with nobody on base quite easily. You don't need much skill, just bunt it hard towards the left side. There's nobody there to field it. RH hitters (such as Sano) don't have the same opportunities to bunt against shifts.
  5. Huh. Least surprising news of the spring.
  6. another example for my "Fangraphs is nonsense" file.
  7. “Miguel is actually doing well,” Baldelli said. “His small wound is healed up, it’s getting to the point where we’re getting ready to revisit an appointment with the specialist just to get clearance to get him out there on the field. He’s been at the field, he’s been taking part in light activity until we get this clearance. It should be here in the next day or two and we should be able to progress. He’s ready to go, we’re really looking forward to seeing him actually take the field and I don’t think we’re far away from that.” While the stitches have been removed at this point and the cut is healing, it sounds like it'll be awhile yet before Sano hits the field. Betsy Helfand of the Pioneer Press reported Thursday that Sano is expected to remain in the boot for another week. The team seems concerned about the potential of the wound reopening. These two paragraphs seem to be in direct opposition to each other, at least to me. I still don't think we're being told the truth regarding Sano. A "laceration" suffered in January would have been healed by the start of spring training, for sure by now. And the story seems to morph a bit every time we hear it. Hopefully it all fades into memory, and he's on the field soon, with enough time to be ready for opening day. But I grow more a little more doubtful every day, and I am absolutely convinced there's more to this story then we've been told.
  8. Ash has it correct...Spring Tng "Gameday" isn't to be trusted on pitch counts. I watched the Philly game and can verify he did not put the first pitch in play in either AB of his first two ABs. I was...resting my eyes after those two ABs so can't verify anything after that. As to Buxton leading off, I don't think he'll ever have a high OBP, but IMO he's as good there as anywhere. There's no question when he does get on base he puts pressure on the defense, and he's the best they have at running the bases. No matter where he hits in the lineup, though, I'll be happy if he hits in the lineup.
  9. Meh. Once again, minor improvement to the margin, but nothing that really moves the needle much. We're talking about a guy with a career .737 OPS. A nice utility player, to be sure. But ... a utility player.
  10. there is no offseason solution to one problem (long term failure to develop starting pitching), but there is for the other (lack of arms on the 2019 bullpen.) That's why it makes sense to complain about one problem in terms of 2019.
  11. I'd put the chances of Cron not being the Twins regular first baseman at somewhere between zip and zilch.
  12. well, he's young. maybe he can up the errors to 50, and thereby lower the cost per error to $1/2 mil. Think positive. #analytics
  13. Well, not "all" the money would go to the owners, any more than it does now. And for the sake of a more even playing field, I could care less if a few more dollars end up with owners. Players will still be rich.
