  1. Said another way: Sands is what we thought he was until he fooled us with a couple of good months.
  2. Bring on relegation! Nothing more pathetic than bad teams with nothing for which to play. In the EPL, battles between the teams at the bottom fighting relegation are often spirited, with both sides going all out to win.
  3. That's the downside of trading them, from an economic point of view. Having the potential of a competitive game 40% of the time might reduce the decline in gate and advertising revenue next year. Otherwise, we are likely in for Oakland-sized "crowds" next year.
  4. Unfortunately, the Twins can never have a pitcher like that. In order to get on the team, they all need to try to throw through walls against every batter.
  5. When the Twins call on a relief pitcher, BP stands for Batting Practice.
  6. Buxton's return: Meaningless solo homerun and a loss. Just like before. He's having a great year in the stats, but it seems like most of his homeruns are like this one: single run in a losing cause.
  7. I suspected that Correa might end up the way he has, so I'm not surprised. I'm also not displeased that we have cut loose an anchor on our financial flexibility and opened the way for young infielders to get experience. If only there were more of those!
  8. I so totally agree with the premise of this article. The Twins seem to ignore the human side of baseball and the human side of their players. It seems like they are just Strat-o-Matic cards: swap them based solely on the spreadsheet. I found today's Economist quote of the day profound and relevant: "A mind all logic is like a knife all blade. It makes the hand bleed that uses it." (From Rabindranath Tagore.) There are a lot of bloody hands in the Twins offices the last few years.
  9. Why do you provide us with video of a homerun---about as interesting as watching a golfer drive---and neglect one of the most exciting plays in baseball: a steal of home?
  10. Slumbering bats. Lumbering legs. Exhausted, inconsistent arms. They have it all.
  11. These little things don't show up on spreadsheets; this FO and manager don't care about them. I'll bet on the spreadsheet we're 10 games above .500 this season.
  12. My solution is to be selective about the authors I read. In the last couple of years, the amount of content has exploded, but the amount of really quality content has remained about the same. Nick, Seth, and a handful of others have reliably good content and write well (especially Nick, who consistently measures up to this old professor's demanding standards). The rest? I sometimes look at those articles but only if I'm really interested in the topic.
  13. I agree with most of what you say, Nick, But I think that one sentence is missing a clarification: "Lineup" has to mean hitting and DEFENSE! Their inability to field easy balls gives the opponents 4 and sometimes 5 outs in multiple innings of games. And every walk or single by even an average-speed batter becomes a double when we can't defend against the running game. And then I always have to go back to the general lack of "life" in the squad. "Who cares?" seems like an appropriate, non-rhetorical question. And the answer seems to be that no one in the dugout is particularly bothered about bad play. And neither is this fan, because I am paying no more attention to the Twins than are the abundant empty seats at Target Field.
  14. I read this as "the Tarpa Tampons." Perhaps new glasses are in order...
  15. I have only watched a few innings this year. I often follow on Gameday when I'm doing something else because I've loved the Twins since Pedro Ramos pitched the opener, but for me unwatchable is exactly the correct adjective.
  16. You're missing the obvious selection for hitter who is the most "clutch." Let's face it; the only answer is "none of the above."
  17. I'm totally in agreement, and this is my worry. You can change stances and swings and pitching motions, but baseball coaches really can't change players' personalities. I fear that the Twins have recruited and signed a bunch of "good on paper" and "good secondary numbers" players, but players with no heart. Anybody else missing a little bit of Arraez or Punto these days?
  18. They'll be there to pick up their obscene paychecks. I haven't been paying close attention to games, but when I've been actively watching, there seems to be absolutely zero energy or enthusiasm in any player. It looks like they are "mailing it in" and playing out the string like it's end-of-season, out-on-contention garbage time instead of the first week, when you set the tone for the season. Maybe it's time for some phantom injuries and callups for the prospects. Honestly, they can't do worse than what we are seeing and should add some energy.
  19. Please! Number 4 tried to pick up the ball to hold him at first, and whiffed, letting the ball trickle into the outfield. Single and an error on our inexpensive, nervous, rookie shortstop. At least he's knocking the cover off the ball at the plate. Oh ... wait ...
