The Twins Don’t Just Need Strategy. They Need Soul
PDX Twin replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Do we even have a list if we're listless? :) Seeing these two sentences one after the other was a curious quirk of language that I found amusing. -
I'm ready to start the "Rocco watch," opening Twins Daily daily looking for the headline saying he has been "relieved of his duties." (Just as I hope for a headline every day announcing the demise of a certain set of politicians.)

If the Twins batted everyone who should be seventh or lower in their appropriate positions, their lineup would have about five open slots between Buxton and #7.

I want to be optimistic ... but recent history makes me wonder not if but how he will fail. Injuries? Poor performance? Something else? I just can't believe that he can possibly be the left-handed ace we have craved since Santana.

Typical unproductive game from Wallner: solo homerun, then an out with the bases loaded to end the game. Is there anyone in the major leagues with a lower RBI/HR ratio? I look occasionally at the Twins' lineup and he's in a class by himself on the team.

Week in Review: Avert Your Eyes
PDX Twin replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Bring on relegation! Nothing more pathetic than bad teams with nothing for which to play. In the EPL, battles between the teams at the bottom fighting relegation are often spirited, with both sides going all out to win. -
That's the downside of trading them, from an economic point of view. Having the potential of a competitive game 40% of the time might reduce the decline in gate and advertising revenue next year. Otherwise, we are likely in for Oakland-sized "crowds" next year.

Unfortunately, the Twins can never have a pitcher like that. In order to get on the team, they all need to try to throw through walls against every batter.

Buxton's return: Meaningless solo homerun and a loss. Just like before. He's having a great year in the stats, but it seems like most of his homeruns are like this one: single run in a losing cause.

Week in Review: Expectations Gone, Energy Unlocked
PDX Twin replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I suspected that Correa might end up the way he has, so I'm not surprised. I'm also not displeased that we have cut loose an anchor on our financial flexibility and opened the way for young infielders to get experience. If only there were more of those!- 67 replies

I so totally agree with the premise of this article. The Twins seem to ignore the human side of baseball and the human side of their players. It seems like they are just Strat-o-Matic cards: swap them based solely on the spreadsheet. I found today's Economist quote of the day profound and relevant: "A mind all logic is like a knife all blade. It makes the hand bleed that uses it." (From Rabindranath Tagore.) There are a lot of bloody hands in the Twins offices the last few years.

Why do you provide us with video of a homerun---about as interesting as watching a golfer drive---and neglect one of the most exciting plays in baseball: a steal of home?

Brewers 17, Twins 6: Evisceration
PDX Twin replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
These little things don't show up on spreadsheets; this FO and manager don't care about them. I'll bet on the spreadsheet we're 10 games above .500 this season.- 51 replies

My solution is to be selective about the authors I read. In the last couple of years, the amount of content has exploded, but the amount of really quality content has remained about the same. Nick, Seth, and a handful of others have reliably good content and write well (especially Nick, who consistently measures up to this old professor's demanding standards). The rest? I sometimes look at those articles but only if I'm really interested in the topic.
