  1. My bet is Terry Ryan would be concerned that it took 2 years for Wieters to recover from TJ surgery. More recent, players are recovering [or at least, seem like] faster than ever. If Wieter's salary request goes beyond the 4 @ $60m I'd probably walk away. Intrigued by Avila and Pena. Maybe Soto.
  2. "Faced weight and drug problems". What a shame.
  3. I'm a little curious about Alex Avila and Brayan Pena. Avila decline I believe was due to a concussion and some other injuries. He was pretty decent for awhile and still only 28. Pena could provide some offense.
  4. The interview with Terry Ryan was very interesting
  5. How many more times does Eduardo Escobar have to prove himself ??
  6. Hmmm, not this year. Still a possibility late in the year. But that probably wouldn't happen unless Terry Ryan suddenly turned into Trader Jack. P.S. Walker batting 8th?
  7. I think you're pretty close on your estimate for Lucroy. It's pretty typical here for folks to over-estimate the value of what the Twins have and kinda nitpick those on the market. I do think that's too many player. 3 MiLB [that would include Arcia] prospects plus a pitcher or position player may be closer to what I'd be willing to do. Then backup my pickup truck with a boat load of money for Lucroy. Amendment: I looked at Seth's 6-10 again. I'd be a little leery of including 3 of them, as the Twins have a long history of building internally. Then again, how many times do you have the opportunity to get a Lucroy?
  8. Hey, why don't the Twins sign me? At 57, I still have some life in my screwball and they desperately need help in the bullpen. $2.1m, 1+ mutual option. I've got nothing left to get in shape, so I'm ready for spring training on a moments notice. But seriously folks, why would you make a move with a guy who's far closer to the end of his career than the beginning? The Twins are building with youth and you trade youth for this? Doesn't make sense to me at all. Plus, we still don't know where Sano will end up playing.
  9. I'm not even sure how to look that up. The only 2 I could think of were Dave Kingman [ biggest upper cut I've ever seen ] and Jim Thome [ who was an hitting freak ]. And their MiLB stints were pretty brief.
  10. I would say no to both.
  11. yup, you are correct, sir! Still not overly sentimental
  12. K's vsBB's. meh, he's still learning.
  13. What he was doing this year at the plate is odd: with that little heal-kick, is his front foot moving backwards? The whole concept of a leg kick, heal lift or slide step is to shift the weight forward. And, yeah, Santana didn't stop the hand movements at all this year. But I also have another theory: he was more successful and relaxed when playing center-field last year. Going by positional splits, it's pretty close offensively. I didn't bother to look at defense, as SS is a lot tougher than CF. Santana does have an awesome arm at SS. The Twins do have something of a shortage in the OF, until others prove themselves. As I"ve always said, I think Santana has a higher comfort level in CF and would return to his 2014 form if in CF.
  14. I rate more on the overall progress: who progressed when moving to the next level. 138 PA's for Buxton put's him 3rd in my book: #1 Kepler, #2 Berrios, #3 Buxton.
  15. I'm really not sentimental at all about the return of players who left as free agents. That was a business decision on their part, and my decision on them returning would be the same. As the Twins are well on their way to rebuilding this this team internally, with youth, I really don't see the point to Morneau's return. On the topic of "blocking": If a player is really, authentically talented, nothing blocks his promotion. Management found room for Sano, right?
  16. I see Walker on the same path as Sano: Watch for the walks. That will be the indicator he's ready. His mechanics look pretty good, in the limited amount I've seen.
  17. I'm leery about spending that kind of money for a Chris Davis when the Twins SP and RP's look more like Elmer Fud. I'm thinking a really big move is at least a year away.
  18. Since he is versatile, can he catch? Watching some YouTube videos, is PA's are half and half: he commits the lower half of his body to a swing, but not always the upper. But, geez, he's 19 and in his first year in pro ball. A lot to look forward too.
  19. Baseball nerd Rosenthal attempting to quote Bob Dylan?? That's just sooo wrong..... "intellectual diversity" ? Really? There's a spot in baseball management for morons?? SIGN ME UP!!
  20. Meyer's fall was so fast, so ugly, that I gotta think there were internal and external things causing them. I would have given thought to moving him down to AA to build his confidence instead of demoting him to the bullpen. Doc: you're right about the grandfather. It happened at the beginning of ST. Pioneer Press article is dated 3/1/2015. "If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have a locker in this locker room," the Twins right-hander said. "I'm certain of that." He's had time to clear his head and work out a few kinks in the bullpen. Back to the starting rotation young man! http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_27620858/twins-pitcher-alex-meyer-remembers-his-late-grandfather
  21. Span has value, so pretty sure he isn't even thinking about the Twins. Plus, the Twins have a couple young options whom I wouldn't want to retard their growth.
  22. Didn't mean to get you to coughup the top guy on your list ahead of time I like Buxton. But the coaches and manager got a lot of work to do on his pitch recognition and his mechanics. This next year at AAA, people need blinders when it comes to BA and watch the BB's and the OBP. Just like Sano, that will be the sign he's ready.
  23. Miguel Sano is a one of a kind player. Really, the only remaining question is: what position?
  24. I really enjoy reading all the prospect lists, especially the reasons why players are selected where they're at. However, I have a small beef... Many of these lists will [ do ] have Buxton #1. Why? Are you going strictly by potential? I ask, because his at bat performance with the Twins was pretty horrible. Just like Hicks' was when called up. Are you taking into consideration that the performance at the next level counts less towards a players potential? Just curious.....
