  1. May loses out on a starting spot due to what he did in the pen last year. Good problem to have; not sure May would be a fan. If we believe the Twins are contenders, I would take a close look at both Sipps and Bastardo. Sipps is reportedly good at facing hitters on both sides of the plate. Bastardo has the power. Reports are $5-6M and around 3 years for either, so far. The RP scenario could be rapidly changing. How many pitcher did the Twins have in the pen last year? 7? Perkins & Jepsen closers [got to protect Perkins], May & Bastardo 7-8, Sipps & Tonkin & Meyer/Presley longish. Too bad I'm not the GM, eh?
  2. Excellent question. What are the options for Nolasco? Pretty sure he is untradable.
  3. I thought this topic had been beaten to death. And here it's risen from the dead, again. Shields for Nolasco? Even if the Padres want to dump his salary, no way do they trade Shields for a now middle reliever. Mix and match additional parts all your want. Still a no.
  4. Well, is Buxton participating in off-season baseball activities? If so, then I agree with you. If not = Miraculous.
  5. Read Zulgad's article: http://www.1500espn.com/twins-2/2015/12/zulgad-twins-should-keep-plouffe-consider-park-a-prospect-until-he-proves-he-can-hit/ "That gets us to the primary point of this column. Unless the Twins can get a windfall for Plouffe, and that isn’t going to happen, Ryan needs to stick to his commitment that he doesn’t trade the third baseman."
  6. Ah, The Hot Stove League. Gotta love it! I agree with Seth: Rosario should stay in LF. My belief is if Buxton does something miraculous in spring training, he maybe get's the MLB call. I would rather see him get a bit more development time on working the counts, pitch recognition, etc. On the current 40 man roster, is there anyone besides Rosario and D. Santana for CF? And I agree with Zulgad: unless the Twins are offered a real windfall for Plouffe, Plouffe stays at 3B. Here's hoping what we're hearing about Sano's winter is true. If Sano comes to ST in great shape, all this can be blessedly moot.
  7. Dave Kingman! Some of the most monstrous home runs I've ever seen. Lifetime: .236 AB, 1575 Hits, 499 HR, 608 BB's, 1816 K's https://youtu.be/sRL99JXcm_0 at the 20 second mark...
  8. I went with "undecided" mainly because last season's playoff run was only because of an attempt at keeping teams that don't have/won't spend the kind of money that it would take to stay relevant is the high-price world of free agent signings. Give me anything over last season's 83 - 79 record and less than double-digit games outta 1st and I'd be very happy. A very nice step forward.
  9. A commentary from Torri Hunter in a IS article from early September: "Sano’s raw power has never been in dispute. Torii Hunter, his 40-year-old teammate, describes it this way: “It’s almost a little bit of The Hulk combined with some strong-ass animal.” http://www.si.com/mlb/2015/09/09/miguel-sano-minnesota-twins-al-wild-card And a Strib Twins Insider, a little more stuff about Miguel's weight and off-season program: http://www.startribune.com/miguel-sano-s-interesting-offseason/344836542/
  10. Fernando Rodney? What? Methuselah wasn't available? At some point they need to find out what the young guys like Alex Meyer, J.T. Chargois, Nick Burdi, Jake Reed and Trevor Hildenberger can do. Is it strange that Berardino left Michael Tonkin off the list?
  11. I loved Lilly Tomlin's comedy routines back then! The Pohlad family has said that about the payroll more that a few times in the past. So what is the problem here? Lack of trying or no high priced talent wants to come play with the Twins? I lean towards the latter, but I can buy into the former. If the Twins have a good year this next season, well, I think back to what happened to the Packers when they stunningly signed Reggie White in 1993.
  12. If I'm running the joint, I'd go all in at this point. Improving the offense without improving the pitching doesn't make sense to me. The bullpen seems the most wide open. How much could both Tony Sipp or Antonio Bastardo cost?
  13. Wow, I hadn't heard that. I think that's a shame.....
  14. I wouldn't get myself in too much of a twist if Fien is back. I'd just like to see new faces in the pen next year.
  15. Pioneer Press article by John Shipley, Nov. 9 http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_29092466/twins-win-negotiating-bid-korean-1b-byung-ho
  16. I did not post "embrace Terry Ryan". For many, that would be a waste of my time. I was addressing those who keep posting things like "He's gotta trade Plouffe now" or "Ryan is just lying". The man has done exactly what he said he was going to do: Add offense to the team, but not at the cost of subtracting others. Embrace the change and embrace the fact the Ryan did what he said he would. The pen? Still a lot of time before Spring Training and a fair amount of options.
  17. On Nov. 10 Phil Miller quotes Terry Ryan as saying: Pursuing Park wasn't done to subtract players, it was to add. Plouffe will remain at 3rd, Mauer at 1st, and Sano will be in RF, because of his arm strength. Ryan has said this consistently. Time to embrace it.
  18. With the additions of Murphy and Park, I'm starting to take Terry Ryan seriously on his desire to improve the Twins for a run next year. I would like to see him make serious runs at both Sipp and Bastardo. I've never been all that high on the LOOGY thing. That's like a half a pitcher to me. Sipp's career stats vs. left and right hitters is pretty impressive. And how can you pass on a guy who's last name is Bastardo? The Twins have right-hand relief prospects [including Berrios and Meyer]. Time to take a hard look at them.
  19. "PLUS, he was moving back to his original, more natural position of SS." I don't know about that. I'd say the evidence from his time with the Twins would be to the contrary. After being a SS most of his career, I was more than a little stunned by how poorly he played in the field. But I still have high hopes for Danny Santana.
  20. At first look, 4 years at $3mil per year looked like the Twins were getting Park pretty cheap. When you add in the $12.8mil posting fee, it's $6.2125 per year for Park. Assuming that the K's are not likely to go down, I'd be happy with a .265 BA and 25HR's. But, boy, the reality of Sano playing in RF just came a pretty big step closer. TR is still standing by his "we're adding, not subtracting" line.
  21. Why not? Twins need a LOOGY. Cotts has done well in the role. One year deal and see how it works out. Brian Duensing: the Twins have been reducing his innings for the past 2-3 years. I think it's time to move on.
  22. Nah. I like Revere a lot, but his arm just doesn't cut it. That'd make him DH in my book. And that'd make the outfield: Rosario in left, Arcia in right on Sano in center. Because Sano runs pretty good for a guy his size.
