  1. "Though many believe his swing is long now". Those people do understand that Javier's just 16, right? lol Alex Meyer: I'm a little confused by "Most likely, that will now happen out of the bullpen." I completely understand the reasons behinds this, but management has been pretty clear the move to the bullpen was to help correct his delivery for a role as a starter. I'm a believer that the Twins should spend more money on International players. After reading about all the pitchers that had serious arm injuries [another one here] I'm very happy to hear about the return of Chargois.
  2. I'm going to miss Torii Hunter. And I think the Twins will, too. Yes, the years have been catching up on him, but think about this: Who else on the current roster will... Provide 22 HR's? Tied for 2nd on the team Provide clutch hitting? Provide vocal leadership? Provide a real face of the franchise? I'm of the belief the Twins can use a guy like Torii Hunter next year. Who will be that guy?
  3. I read on MLB Rumors that the Yankees are in desperate need of a second baseman. Dozier for Sanchez, with the appropriate number of add-ins. Need for prospect need.....
  4. Really? IMHO, Buying a skilled free agent catcher on the open market would cost far more than making a trade of a prospect for a skilled catching prospect. If they start asking about the Twins top prospects, why not?
  5. Buxton made progress: yes. However: Molitor noted the staff "saw lots of signs of improvement," isn't a ringing endorsement. Buxton's PA's were atrocious. I'm more than a little stunned that no one has taught him how to bunt. Unless there are injuries, I doubt Buxton will appear with the Twins this year. The whole "Rosaro at second base" experiment was a failure. And that answer was from an embarrassed Paul Molitor. Sano in the OF: that's just keeping options open. And it's not like the Twins have MLB OF talent ready. I didn't hear the comments, but I don't believe "Molitor quickly suggested that Eduardo Escobar is their shortstop." I believe that was statement of fact.
  6. After reading the article and the MLB Offseason "Outlook: Milwaukee Brewers" I'd say it's less likely new GM Stearns has interest in trading Lucroy than taking the time to rebuild his creds. Lucroy has a very team friendly contract and Sterns is definitely a "Sell High" guy and sell before they wear out.
  7. I'd be on board with adding Pierzynski. But what's the endgame here? The only things we really know right now is Pierzynski, a good as he was last season, is very near the end of his career and Suzuki, at age 32, is being overworked because of no realistic replacement. The catchers in Seth's Top 50 Prospects list seem a couple years away. I see there's another topic on Lucroy's availability. I'm more of the mind to trade for a young and well regarded guy like Gary Sanchez or someone similar.
  8. This. This right here. Wait, what?
  9. While I appreciate the idea of adding AJ, I'm not sure it's a step in the right direction. I'd rather try to trade for a young catching prospect, like Gary Sanchez, and start by working him into a rotation with Suzuki, with the C prospect [ hopefully ] taking over the lead in the 2nd half.
  10. And perhaps you could share your source that Greinke was the sole negotiator of his contracts? But in the spirit of full disclosure: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/40585162/ Paragraph 2.
  11. Funny you brought this up. Last week in MLB Rumors, Plouffe was mentioned as a possible trade target and the Yankees had a really bad situation at 2B they wanted to fix, fast. The Plouffe trade rumor was based on the White Sox are in need of a 3B and Plouffe's name was mentioned as a potential target. The Yankees are hoping to sign Daniel Murphy, but there would be a lot of suitors for the free agent. Dozier to NYY for catcher Gary Sanchez, et al? At the very least, I'd make a couple phone calls.....
  12. I'm reading that Greinke's 2012 contract was negotiated by Casey Close [ 6yr. $147M]. But I have also ready the Greinke negotiates his contracts. I don't know if it's the entire thing; I bet Close did the financial part. More telling is Greinke's statement on what he looks for: "There's a couple things I was really looking at with teams besides the money, I guess," Greinke said. "The No. 1 [factor] was to have a team that could have a chance to win a World Series for several years. ... My main goal was a team that was competing each year to get a World Series [title]. Also, I looked at the organizations some, the cities -- which ones we'd be most comfortable in and which ones we'd enjoy the most. Then also what my parents kind of liked and stuff like that." So in other words: Greinke will not sign with the Twins. Period.
  13. Of the bunch, I'd rather keep Santana. I feel Nolasco should be offered an injury settlement. Hughes has also had injury issues in the past, and again now.
  14. Got me one! Looking forward to it :-)
  15. With what the Twins currently have as starters and the size and length of those contracts AND the expected size and length that Greinke and his agent will want, there's just no way Greinke's needs can be squeezed into the Twins rotation. And by moving some of those current starters, you are looking at potentially weakening the rotation further. It's just a bad fit. I'm also questioning if this Twins team is actually ready for the next big step. I think we need to see some improvement in the everyday lineup before spending that kind of money. I wish it were different.
  16. IDK. I think I was more enthused about the previous bunch of MiLB'ers than this one.
  17. Good questions. I've watched many video's of ABW2's at bats. He has a very nice swing. Maybe a little too much of a power hitters uppercut. Clearly, his issue is pitch recognition. I would like to hear more of what the AZ League coaches have been instructed to emphasize to each player.
  18. I confess, I was being a bit of a smart-ass there. Prospect is one thing. Performance at the next level is another. Buxton just needs more MiLB time. Possibly significant time.
  19. "Even assuming that Buxton and Sano are untradeable....." True statement, but for different reasons Ryan would have to do a heck of a sales job to be able to trade Buxton at this point. Here's hoping he's learned something from Bruno.
  20. I think I'd be spending my time trying to pry Jonathan Lucroy from the Brewers.
  21. Whew, Hughes, Milone and Nolasco in the bullpen is one stinky bullpen.
  22. Yes. Escobar's.
  23. I'm more of the mind that some of those SP's need to be moved or at least dangled, to other teams. In some cases like Nolasco, I'd see if I could buy out his contract. There's nothing to see there anymore. Hughes has a record of good, followed by bad seasons. The large K to BB ratio isn't necessarily a good thing. Very few walks is a sure indicator that he's pumping the strike zone. Hitter do notice. Pelfry is gone. At the least, I'd like to see Duffey and May in the rotation, with a veteran of choice holding a spot for Berrios.
  24. Yeah, I'm gonna throw the "invalid argument" flag at you, too There is no way, no how, any agent or star-quality player would ever sign long term contract with a team that is still trying to rebuild [ 4 games over .500, 2nd place, 12 games behind the the Royals ]. This team has issues and the biggest is a starting staff overloaded of fairly middling personnel at a pretty high cost and excessive number of years. Right now, the Twins are a team no high value player will sign with. Unless, of course, they get lucky like the Packers and get a chance to sign a guy like Reggie White. Then again, they also had a guy named Brett Farve.
  25. I'm not 100% sure I understand your point. I've looked around and found their BABIP's broken down by position. Escobar this year had a .333 BABIP in 270 PA as a shortstop. D. Santana in 2014, had a BABIP of .400 in 134 PA's at SS and a BABIP of .391 in 283 PA's in, what I believe to be his best position, CF. And his overall numbers are better in CF I'm just saying playing consistently at one position leads to better performance at the plate.
