  1. ssshhhhh..... Joe Mauer is just 2 seasons removed from a .324 BA........
  2. I'm pretty sure people going to Twins games, or watching, aren't doing so just because of Joe Mauer. That ship has passed. Mauer as a "super utility" player is one bizarre idea. He doesn't have the legs to catch anymore and is pretty stiff at 1st base. Can't imagine that would change at other positions. Overall, I think Souhan's strategy has 3 parts: 1. Try to shame Mauer enough to quit [leaving behind, what is it, $69M on the table] or 2. Somehow try to shame Mauer to play better or 3. Get some desperately needed "reads" on his blog.
  3. Many MLB teams are pretty much ignoring the "pool money", the Dodgers being the leader. For the right player, who seems to be at a discount right now, I don't know why the Twins would ignore the opportunity. I question the Twins depth in CF. Hicks has made progress, but still on the edge. At this point, Buxton hasn't proven his ability to hit.
  4. Yeah, I don't know. If I were voting for Twins MVP, I'd ask for a mulligan. I like Dozier, but he just doesn't meet my standards for an MVP type player: great performance for an entire season. Yup, mulligan and see you next year! ;-)
  5. I think it's very easy for some of us to overrate players. I don't get to see all the games, few actually, so I depend on TD folks to give me the scoop. Thankfully, some have shown me were to get videos of some of the prospects. I'd be interested to hear what the drafting philosophies are of both Ryan, Epstein and others are. I don't believe the Twins are falling behind, just drafting because of other needs. As if another, hulking power hitter isn't a need
  6. The 1st half, 2nd half splits are very concerning. Losing command of a fastball is just weird, IMHO. If Gibson [ and Allen ] keep his delivery together, he will be a strong innings eater with a ++ .500 record. Twins really need an Ace.
  7. Let me ask you a question: What the plus side of making this deal for the Twins? Both are near the end of their careers. Both have had a list of injuries. If Mauer agreed to a trade [ pretty sure that's a big if ] I'd go for prospects.
  8. I'm with Dante929: I didn't like what Arcia, Sano and Vargas did during SP. Neither did Molitor and that's why Rosario got called up before anyone else. I also agree with Stringer Bell: Rosario play far more MLB games than Sano. In the end, I think I believe I agree with the voters: I like Rosario a heck of a lot, but you can't deny Sano's impact.
  9. Scouting report from MLB.com: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/128576212/eddy-julio-martinez-is-top-international-prospect
  10. Just a few days ago, it was reported that the Giants had agreed to terms with highly touted Cuban CF Eddy Julio Martinez. There's a lot of oddities to the saga, like this from MLB Rumors: "One of the most talked-about and highly ranked free agents earlier in the summer, Martinez curiously went months with his name scarcely coming up in news and rumors before the agreement with the Giants was reported." The signing bonus was supposed to reach $10M. The Giants supposedly signed him for $2.5M. Do you think there's any interest from the Twins? Here's the link to the MLB Rumors story: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/10/latest-on-eddy-julio-martinez-2.html ...and an interest take from Kiley McDaniel's FanGraphs chat: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/kiley-mcdaniel-prospects-chat-10615/
  11. As much as I can't see Mays in the bullpen, I'd have a tougher time if Nolasco was the cause.
  12. Umm, I listened to the entire podcast. Ryan did NOT say that. He said they're in decent shape, but definitely need more depth and numbers in the pitching staff. Specifically starting pitching. Here he referenced the Minors for help. The last thing: Busy off-season, Ryan said that's typical when you have all kinds of holes. "We don't have all kinds of wholes to fill. We've got issues, there's no question and we will be active."
  13. Well, let's face the facts: The times he got called up were because of injuries [both Hicks, I believe] and in his last 3 starts; 2 of which were because everyone else in the clubhouse was puking their guts out and the last was in game 162. Along with what Mientkiewicz has said, I'd say that's not a ringing endorsement from management. I expect Buxton to have significant time at AAA.
  14. Twins Insider blog: http://www.startribune.com/dozier-to-have-mri-ryan-sees-lots-of-areas-to-upgrade/330909051/ "With the season finished, Ryan now heads into an off-season that he hinted might be busier than fans expect. The Twins may have narrowly missed making the playoffs, he said, “but we’ve got a lot of areas we’d like to upgrade.” There’s not one specific position the Twins will target like they did the past two winters, when they made starting pitching a priority, the GM said. But he’s not satisfied with merely contending for a playoff spot, Ryan said, nor is he willing to simply wait for young prospects to develop."
  15. People continue to under value Milone. The only real problem is he tends to wear out after 150 innings. Which can also be valuable if you have a young, stud pitcher at AAA that you'd like to take a look at in the MLB.
  16. Hey, thanks for clearing up sOPS+ for me. Relative to the League. Now it makes sense.
  17. Twins are at 23 of 30. Room for improvement.
  18. When Hicks missed that fly ball near the wall in TX, I'm pretty sure I said something like "Hicks is dead to me". LOL He's turned into a nice player, but really needs to continue to work on his hitting.
  19. Absolutely agree! But the author was looking more at personnel/position issues.
  20. Give me another half - 3/4 of a season before I'd think about it.
  21. ...and that would never happen. I wish he were still capable of doing it. He was something special.
  22. While a fun year, the reality is they finished 12 games behind KC and were in the Wild Card race only because MLB created the 2nd WC spot for lowly teams like the Twins. All but a few should be considered available. But I always have the same question: Who would want/need them?
  23. I don't believe in looking back. Woulda been, coulda been, shoulda been. meh What we learned along the way is the future could be considerably brighter.
  24. Yes, there are veteran starters that are "blocking" some minor league [potentially a couple MLB] starting pitchers. I don't know how the Twins could separate those pitchers, with those contracts, from this team. Not unless there's someway they can negotiate an injury settlement with Nolacso. I think a lot of things will play out in Spring Training. If there's going to be any activity, that will be the time.
  25. After his start today [and his previous performance] is it possible the Twins could make an injury settlement with Nolasco? I'd probably do whatever I could to trade Hughes and Milone, although I do like Milone. If there are trades to be made for either Dozier or Plouffe, I'd take advantage. I like Polanco as a replacement for Dozier and Sano for Plouffe. I haven't see much of either :-) I just don't see Danny Santana as a utility guy or Vargas as a bench guy. I'd say Escobar is the full time starting SS next year.
