Don't trade for Chapman, unless 1) he can play SS or 2) pitch 200 innings and average a strikeout an inning., or 3) he is Buxton's BFF.

"While he plays fruit ninja at home plate during each at bat." I laughed out loud at that sentence, and I didn't even know what fruit ninja was. Then I looked it up and laughed out loud again. What a great sentence describing Simmons at bats. I nominate this sentence for the funniest sentence of 2021 on Twins Daily.. Thank you Jamie

VIDEO: José Berríos Extension Reaction
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree Tom. I am so frustrated that I am considering not going to Spring Training and not renewing mlb/tv. and simply going on strike against the Twins. My frustration is that from the time the Twins signed Buck/Berrios/Rosario/Hendricks, etc.,, we have been watching their every move in the minors and majors, pulling for them, cheering for them, reading about them, speaking to them in Spring Training, whatever we fans do...only to have them be released or traded or whatever. This is not working for me and I've pulled for this same "Senators-Twins" franchise for 67 years. TD and MLB.com and the ability to afford to go to spring training each March and to afford trips to Minneapolis have caused me to become more emotionally invested in being a fan of the Twins than ever before. And I am very frustrated right now. Why am I wasting my time typing this right now. I truly do not know. However I do know this is not healthy. I believe it is time for some space. between the Twins and me. Right now I have had it. That 7 year Berrios extension with our competition, the Blue Jays, has been the straw that has broken my back. -
ROSENTHAL: Byron Buxton Trade “Likely”
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Van, Those are my thoughts exactly. Since I live in North Carolina, I know that my not cheering for the Twins and not watching them on tv and not going to Ft. Myers for a week each March, will have no effect on the Twins in their big picture, but life is too short to live with chronic disappointments which can be eliminated with no harm to anyone, by simply ignoring the events and articles and Florida vacations which bring on doomed expectations every year for 6 months. -
When Berrios signed a reasonable extension with Toronto this week, it reminded me of my college years when our society was starting to question our involvement in Vietnam. There was a popular 1967 Vietnam War protest song, "For What it's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield, which goes: "Something's happenin' here, What it is ain't exactly clear." I used to be a big Falvine supporter.. But for me,, losing Berrios in this manner, and not having Buxton signed, has put a huge damper on my enthusiasm for the Twins current FO and ownership. this week. I am questioning whether I want to invest my time and emotional energy supporting a team that will not pay it's players when they become really good and experienced, and then we have to watch them succeed for other teams. This team building model is not one that I like. There must be a better way.

Nick, I agree 100 % with your article. Thanks for writing it and for expressing what a lot of us Twins fans are thinking: "What the Hell?" Maybe the FO and/or owners don't care what we rabid Twins fans are saying here, but they should pay attention. I contend this website is frequented by incredibly bright, thoughtful, loyal Twins fans. I really do not remember a subject matter that has been as strongly agreed upon on this site as the absolute necessity to sign Buck to a long term deal. Ans so I say in no damn uncertain terms: FO, do not mess this up by negotiating too much. I have seen this happen in negotiations involving my law practice many times. Feelings get hurt and lines get drawn in the sand and next thing you know, the whole thing unravels. This impasse is not just about money. Find a way to address the pride puffing up on both sides. Think outside the box and see what Buck really wants, and find a way to give it to him.

So the Tigers have signed E. Rodriguez ! Here we go again. One by one the top free agents starting pitchers begin to slip through the Twins' fingers. As Yogi Berra said: " It's like de ja vu all over again".

I was one of the ones who was thrilled when the Twins signed Simmons. His fielding was as advertised. I could live with his 2021 offensive lack of production, but I still do not want Simmons to be re-signed. A red flag was when he quit during the season in 2020, I may be censored for bringing this up, he reportedly refused to be vaccinated against Covid, and put on social media some mess about an "alternate treatment", then he tested positive for Covid.. I may be wrong about this, and the censors may delete this, and if so, so be it. I will still be a loyal TD reader and contributor.

How would the combination of Garver and Jeffers rank? In other words, if Garver had qualified, how would he rank. If JD had qualified at 3B, how would he rank? If Buck had qualified, how would he rank? #1 I hope.

Should the Twins Trade for Salary Relief?
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The question was should the Twins trade Sano and/or Donaldson for salary relief? The Answer is : (drum roll please) "They would, if they could, but they can't".- 23 replies

We Got 99 Problems, But A DH Ain't One.
tarheeltwinsfan commented on the_neds's blog entry in Notes From The Neds
The Twins have a good DH already. Arraez would be a good cheap fit for DH. The man is a professional hitter. Would you rather have Arraez or Sano at bat in the 10th inning in a tie game, with a runner standing at 2B. Now compare the 2022 salary of Sano and the salary of Arraez. Case closed. -
Should the Twins Trade for Salary Relief?
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins FO dug itself a deep hole with Donaldson's contract I said this before Donaldson was signed, that Donaldson's old skinny legs would not hold up because he came to the majors as a catcher, and had had leg (calf) problems for years, plus he was old for a catcher. Who signs an old catcher to a high dollar, multi-year contract ? Nobody.. OK I understand that Donaldson was/is an "ex-catcher", but the results of minor league years of wear and tear on his legs are showing. But did the FO read my posts and take my advice. NO ! You may say, "Well Tarheel, hindsight is 20/20"...but I never would have signed Donaldson and I said so before the Twins signed him, so that's not hindsight. That's foresight.- 23 replies

Let Arraezbe the primary DH. and fill in in the field in emergencies. Do not trade him. He is an exciting, special hitter. A team does not have to have a power hitter at DH. A team just needs a "hitter". Arraez is certainly that. He would be an awesome DH with 4 more years of affordable team control. He also would be a super PH in critical situations late in games when a runner is needed to get on base, or a runner needs to be advanced or a runner is on 2B or 3B and needs to score. He also would bring energy with his at bats, which can turn the tide in the late innings of close games. Let Arraez bat behind Buxton and watch the show. Buck on 1B and Arraez at bat would be a pitcher's nightmare.
