  1. Nice article. I enjoyed reading it. My first autographs were at Washington's Griffith Stadium in 1954 or 1955 with my grandfather and my brother. We were visiting our grandparents in D.C. and my brother and I had just discovered baseball, We actually rode the trolley to the ball park from 36th St NW (near the National Cathedral, where my grandparents lived). The Tigers were in town. The Senators lost,, thus starting a life-long journey for me as a Senators/Twins' fan who had to become accustomed to my team losing. Whose autographs did my brother and I get at that game, you may be thinking. You will never guess. We were sitting in front of some famous people: I remember Mrs. Clint Courtney, the wife of "Scrap Iron" . Yes we got the autographs of some of the Washington Senators players wives. They told us they had never been asked for their autographs before. It was a thrill for the wives and for two little boys from North Carolina at our first major league game.
  2. Let's just be patient and see what Lewis has this year in AA or AAA or with the Twins, This time next year we should have a better idea of what Lewis can do. No need to trade him now.
  3. I have not considered this arrangement. Has Donaldson ever played 1B?
  4. Megill may turn out to be a useful acquisition. He is very interesting. I want to follow him closely in spring training.
  5. As I posted earlier, it's good to see a 6 foot 8, 250 pound player running in from the Twins bull pen in the event of a fight when the opposing pitcher pitches Buck up and in too much.
  6. It's going to be a long winter; 68 days, 1 hour and 30 minutes until pitchers and catchers report..
  7. I really think the great baseball minds who work for the Twins, can tell if Lewis can physically handle the job of MLB SS during spring training and if he can, then give it to him. Let him learn on the job at the ML level. I feel Lewis is such a positive person and has his head on so straight that he will learn from each mistake he inevitably will make. The learning failures at the big league level, rather than in AA or AAA, will not destroy his self confidence. He is not a fragile person. I believe the 2022 SS job for the Twins is Lewis's, unless or until he proves he can't handle the job. I'm ready to see what he can do in the big show. The lessons there are magnified, but Lewis can handle it. He is special.
  8. The Twins signed Buck, What a great relief to thousands of Twins fans. It simply had to be done. Tony O. and Kitty and Buck O'Neil are going to the Hall of Fame, "The snail's on the thorn; God's in His heaven - All's right with the world.!" Thank you FO and Hall of Fame Early Baseball and Golden Days Committees and Robert Browning. download.svg
  9. I'm hoping Miranda will man 3B for the Twins the next 10 years.
  10. To answer the title of the article, "Do the Twins Have Tradable Assets", I would say this: Apparently so ....because it seems many players which the Twins have released or traded somehow seem to morph into the next coming of Babe Ruth or Cy Young. For example: Lance Lynn, Ryan Pressly, Liam Hendricks, Nick Anderson, Zack Littel, Lamonte Wade, Akil Badoo, Shaggy Chargois, Luis Gil, Brustar Graterol, Aaron Hicks, Niko Goodrum, Kurt Suzuki, Edwardo Escobar, Kyle Gibson,. I call this the curse of Big Papi ! How do we break this curse? If I were a major league GM, I would be looking to trade with the Twins and pick up the Twins' waivers.
  11. Probably the Twins didn't want Stroman because he attended Dook University. Sincerely, Tarheeltwinsfan BA UNC 1967 and JD UNC 1972.
  12. "Sign"...not "sing" Sorry for my eror. My typin gets worse, the moore excited I get abot the subject mattor being tiped about.
  13. Do any of you think that the Twins are not going to sing big money pitchers and are going to use their young pitchers and see what they have? That might not be a bad idea. Let a few of them get the "yips" out of being new to the major leagues, and see which 3-4-5 of the young pitchers has what it takes to get batters out in the majors. Then in 2023 we take the best of the young pitchers, who have a half year to 3 quarters of a year experience having pitched in the majors in 2022, Maeda coming back (healed I hope) and probably Lewis and Miranda somewhere in the lineup with Kirilloff -1B , Polanco= 2B , a SS to be named (hopefully Lewis), Miranda 3B, Larnach LF , Buck- anywhere he wants to play, and Kep in RF, 2 of Jeffers/ Garver/Rortvedt at catcher, Donaldson/Sano/ Araez at DH and substitutes at 3B, 1B, 2B, Lf, and Gordan at utility SS, 2b, CF. Not a bad offensive or defensive team. Now about those young pitchers....
  14. Het Doc, Cheer up. The FO signed Buck. for 7 years. With the pitching staff the Twins have assembled so far, think of all the spectacular catches we will be able to watch Buck make, as baseballs are being crushed all over the Twins outfield.
  15. Good luck Dylan Bundy. I hope your time with the Twins is successful for the team and for you and your family.
  16. Will Buck be turned loose to steal bases? There is a threat of injury here. But he can ruin a pitcher's day when he is on first base. Will Buck be encouraged to bunt if the shift is put on him? That is almost like giving him a double. Also if Buck is encouraged to steal when when he gets on first base, it may cut down on Buck being thrown at by opposing pitchers. I'd encourage Buck to steal 2B almost every time he gets hit by a pitch. Who will bat behind Buck? He needs someone to take pitches to allow him to steal (Arraez or Polanco or Kirilloff ?) and someone to make contact (Arraez? ), who can hit .300 (Arraez/Polanco). Would the opposition walk Buck to get him on first base with Arraez next up? Or would Buck be told not to steal bases? If a high strikeout hitter bats behind Buck you are not optimizing Buck's speed. on base.
  17. I like to see 6 foot 8 inch, 250 pound pitchers running in from the bullpen for the Twins when a fight breaks out after some jerk hits Buck with a fastball up and in.
  18. I realize I am the only one, but I like the idea of having Cave available at $300/800. I think Cave has more in his tank than we saw the last 2 years. He had a bad injury. I think Cave is a major league ready 4th OF who can play adequate CF and hits left-handed with more pop than our starting SS last year (but so did 99 % of all batters in AAA ). And Cave hustles, has some speed and is encouraging to his team mates on the bench. We have seen the Twins play worse OF defenders ( Rooker) repeatedly the last 5 years and Cave's bat may come around when he is fully healed and able to get some regular at bats. Come on Jake, prove all these naysayers wrong. Have a great spring and win that 4th OF position. Now about the Twins # 2 and #3 outfielders currently on the 26 man roster? I contend Cave conceivably could beat one of them out and actually start in the OF in 2022. OK now it is your turn to counter my argument contained herein.
  19. Do the statistics show that 5+ years for a starting pitcher doesn't pay off too many times to justify 5+years? If so, Berrios would have been the type of pitcher I would be willing to take a chance on, given his good health history and his attention to his workouts.
  20. This is absolutely the best news. Now I am looking forward to Spring Training at Ft. Myers. What specifically is a full no trade clause? Does it mean the Twins cannot trade Buck? Thank you FO for signing Buck. Now go get some pitching.
  21. I'm thankful the Twins still have Byron Buxton on the roster. I'm thankful the 2021 season is over. I'm thankful I can say, "Wait 'til next year".
  22. I hope you are right about Buck wanting to stay a Twin.
  23. Sign Buck to watch him play and take a chance that he stays healthy. The proposed contract is already at a discounted value based upon his health. If it were not, he'd be worth 20 million per year.
  24. I would not be in favor of trading either Garver or Jeffers. The Twins catching position seems to be in good shape for next year. Leave it alone. If we trade either of them, then the Twins will need to "strengthen" the catching weakness which the Twins just created by trading both major league catchers. I is a good situation to have 2 capable major league catchers on the team.
