If Mauer led off and Buxton batted 9th, then Mauer and his deliberate batting eye, his taking pitches until a strike is thrown and his bat control, may allow Buxton to steal bases at an unprecedented rate for a 9th place batter. I also like it because it doesn't put the pressure of batting leadoff on Buxton, but still allows him to be followed by Mauer for 75 to 80% of his at bats.
