  1. I agree 100%. I just wish the FO would read this and take this important, thoughtful message to heart.
  2. Who is going to play SS at Ft. Myers? I'd put Wander at CR or FM and Lewis at the other. Let each play SS exclusively and see in several years who wins the SS battle and who needs to be moved to another position. Same with Gordon at AAA and Polanco in Minnesota. . Leave them all at SS as long as possible and give the brain trust amble opportunity to view each one of the 4 and then decide which ones to move away from SS.
  3. Brothers and Sisters: We entered the off season needing a # 1 SP and a #4 SP in order to contend with the Cleveland Mudrats. The sun is shinning today in Ft. Myers! The pitchers and catchers have reported. We have gotten neither a #1 nor a #4 SP. Let's all rise, grab out song books and sing the first verse of, "It's Now or Never"...page 18 in our books. Let's all sing loudly, so the guys upstairs in the front office can hear us. A one and a two...
  4. I like all our SS prospects. I wonder if any of them can pitch?
  5. I'd rather see some rookies get the 1st year jitters out and maybe, just maybe one will shine this year. Let's see what we've got in the minor league pitchers. And maybe we can sign another relief pitcher with some of the money we saved on not being able to sign Darvish.
  6. This day in 1988, Twins OF Mark Davidson was using his 1987 World Series championship money to build some duplexes here in our hometown, Statesville, NC. Mark went back to Clemson to get his 4 year degree this year and to be an assistant baseball coach at Clemson. Mark's son, Logan, plays SS at Clemson. Mark's daughter played tennis at Stanford. Mark will tell you that his children got their mother's athletic genes. Linda was a great athlete at Mooresville, NC High School . Mark and I used to play racquetball. The game is to 21 points. Mark would give me 20 points. to start the game. He never lost to me. So there you have some Twins' history from 30 years ago today.
  7. Can we please attempt to trade for Realmuto! Then we would be solid up the middle.
  8. Ugh! The picture describes exactly how I am feeling.
  9. April losses count the same as September losses.
  10. I'd put Chris Giminez at RP. He pitched for 3 teams, Texas, Cleveland and the Twins, during his illustrious pitching career. Talk about control...he never, I repeat, never walked a batter over a 3 year career. His strikeout to walk ratio is difficult to figure because of his zero walks, so I guess we could say his ratio was 1 to infinity. Also he had zero wild pitches and zero hit batters. (Lucky for those batters that none of those 65 mph fastballs hit them.) His most amazing stat was that he went straight to pitch in the major leagues without ever having had to pitch in the minor leagues. Not many major league ready pitchers can claim that. I recently read on the Cubs website that Chris is throwing long toss and being stretched out in anticipation of starting opening day at Wrigley.
  11. No way the owners will agree to this. It would cost them tens of millions annually.
  12. Wonderful article. As Elvis sang: "It's now or never"! Well maybe not never, but it surely seems like a long time since 1991.
  13. I would much rather have the 3 players we already have than any of the free agents mentioned in this article. Signing any of these free agents makes no economic sense to me. Nor does it improve the team. "Veteran leadership" is already present on this current Twins' team in Mauer, Dozier, Castro, Escobar, Santana. Therefore there is no reason to sign any of free agents, whose stock is tumbling downward.
  14. It is extremely difficult to predict the future results where there are multiple, uncontrollable variables. My hat is off to those who attempt to do so. That reminds me, I've got to make some adjustments to my 401k investments.
  15. mikelink, you are an idiot! You know nothing about baseball! Just kidding. I agree 100% that TD is a special site which allows cordial disagreement. Thank you to all the moderators and the owners who keep hotheads like me reigned in. I hope the Twins do sign Darvish because I believe this solves the Twins' biggest need thereby giving the Twins the best chance of utilizing the players currently on the roster in a way that will result in a World Series championship in 2018. Without Darvish, I believe the team will not be quite good enough. With Darvish, the Twins can compete with NYY and CI and HA and LAD...and can dominate the rest.
  16. Good article. I especially liked your statement comparing the K/9 rates of the Rockies 3 new relievers and the Twins 3 new relievers, where you called the comparison "striking"! Nice double meaning there.
