Thanks Tom. Wonderful quotes. Lots to think about. I wonder if Hildy's quotes, while true, may come back to bite us if some umpires read them.

I'm not going to get too excited about any Twins' prospect until that prospect is a consensus top 25 in national rankings. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy reading about the Twins' prospects, and I wish them all well...but until then, I have my doubts about their chances of being real difference makers in the major leagues.

Article: Minnesota’s Base Running Resurgence
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Speed on the base paths tends to force the opposition to hurry throws and to worry the defense, especially pitchers. The Minnesota Roadrunners has a nice ring to it. Good article . Thanks.- 18 replies

1) The GM's of TD must all agree that the Twins need better starting pitching. We have been writing this for as long as I have been reading TD. 2) Darvish will most likely improve the starting pitching for the Twins. I say "most likely" because the future is not certain for any of us and even less certain for major league starting pitchers, who violently fling baseballs, resulting in all kinds of problems for their arms, backs, necks, and legs. 3) There are several ways of getting a #1 starting pitcher: a) develop him through the draft and minor leagues and patience. Let me ask a question here: Even with numerous top draft picks in recent years, I ask Question #1: How has that worked out for the Twins the last 10 years? or Trade for a #1 pitcher, which involves the same injury risks PLUS the Twins lose some good prospects and good players, who may have Hall of Fame careers with other teams, thereby causing us Twins fans to post laments and regrets about "what might have been" for the next 10 years. I ask Question #2: How has that worked out for the Twins the last 10 years? or c) Sign a consensus top ranked free agent, starting pitcher, which is something I don't remember the Twins ever doing. One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. This is my argument about why the Twins need to sign Darvish. Let's get off the porch and run with the big dogs. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead! Take the high ground! Charge!

On acquiring Yu Darvish or Gerrit Cole
tarheeltwinsfan commented on Hosken Bombo Disco's blog entry in Hosken's Blog
What are the major objections to the Cole for Gordon, Granite, Jay? The Twins have an abundance of OF and SS so the risk is Jay, I think. And only 2 years of Cole...wish it were 4.- 11 comments

Nick, Would you mind sharing your 25-21 players with us? I am curious. The players aged 24 or younger on your list are very, very impressive. Looking at this list, I believe we need a catcher and several more starting pitchers under 25 to make me feel more comfortable with the Twins' future. Middle infield and OF look strong. We will need a 1B soon and maybe a 3B, but we can draw from our middle infielders for 3B. Do you think Dozier has the arm for 3B? As Dozier ages, that might be a good shift...or what about 1B for Dozier? Thank you for a great series.

When my father returned to Boston Harbor, just a few days after the Japanese had surrendered, ending WWII, he said that the tugs and fire boats were shooting water into the air and blowing their horns...welcoming the American soldiers home from Europe. There were people cheering on the docks. He had served as a combat engineer in France, Belgium and Germany. He helped build a bridge across the Rhine River while being shelled. He and his buddies had defeated the Germans, but were on their way to the Pacific, to be a part of the invasion of Japan. Fortunately the Japanese had surrendered and the deadly invasion was not necessary. So instead of my dad's troopship continuing toward the Panama Canal and the uncertain future awaiting them in the Pacific, the destination of the soldiers on my father's troopship was changed to Boston Harbor. He finally got off the boat and after waiting for hours in line at a payphone, he called my mother. She was crying, he was crying...both were so glad he was back from the war. He said then the lights went out. She told him his only brother, my uncle, John Benbow, from Greensboro, a P-51 Mustang pilot, was dead, his Mustang having been shot down July 16, 1945. My father said that he and the returning GI's had been made to feel like heroes but that he realized that they were not heroes. My father said he realized that all the heroes were dead.

Article: A Re-Do On Dozier For Minnesota
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Extend Dozier for a fair price for 5 more years. He epitomizes the veteran presence we read about that the Twins youngsters need. By all accounts, he is a good man. Public relations is important to a business. Dozier will probably never embarrass the Twins' FO or fans. -
I really don't think this discussion should be taking place on Twins Daily. There are legal implications to this, both civil and criminal. There are possible financial penalties, no matter who is telling the truth. Since TD has "employed" Betsy and since some owners know her and since TD is involved with the Twins' players closely, and since these discussions can quickly get out of hand, I, for one, would recommend the moderators pull the plug on further discussion about this for now. I realize I am asking this topic to be censored and I don't recommend this lightly. I do not represent TD as an attorney, nor anyone associated with this matter, but have practiced law for over 40 years and would recommend TD consult an attorney in Minnesota before further discussion of this matter on this site.

Seth, Your introduction is wonderful. It puts the whole book into perspective. I understand your passion for the Twins, because I feel the same way. Largely due to your faithful, informative writing, I have 150 "Twins" players to read about and to learn about and to pull for instead of just 25. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Article: Tampa Open To Trades
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Since the Rays traded their 32 year old third baseman, maybe the Rays would be in the market for a really young third baseman with tremendous upside in power, (can anybody think of someone like that?) in exchange for Archer? -
Article: What Do The Twins See In Tyler Kinley?
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Brilliant post. -
I may be the only one, but being reminded this past season of how much a superior defense helps pitching and wins games, and looking at Escobar's hitting and his leadership, I would definitely propose signing Escobar to an extension and then (here is the controversial part) I would see which ACE starting pitchers plus flame throwing relievers the Twins could get for Sano in a trade. Gordon can be the utility infielder.

Darvish Or Bust? Kinda...
tarheeltwinsfan commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
It will be worse that a tough pill to swallow if the Twins don't sign Darvish. It will be more like air gun shots in both arms at the induction center.
