  1. Yes. Enjoy the current ride.
  2. Redeeming note on the Cleveland win is that we get to enjoy Oliva photos for an entire day on the Magic Number thread, rather than moving immediately to Tim Teufel pictures.
  3. Twins at 94 pitches through eight. Still a small chance of the team Maddux.
  4. Yikes, seeing this in person, I’m thinking Kirilloff is a budding Keith Hernandez on how far off the bag he plays.
  5. This is the 40th of the Winning Ugly team clinching, so LaRussa and others were recognized. I think for total recognition, they should let him be the guest manager.
  6. IT Jr. uses a cane, so steps are a consideration.
  7. And that the weather is perfect for today’s pitcher, being both sunny and gray.
  8. And from the seat that IT Jr. communicated as section 1-Hrbek, Row Puckett, seat Oliva, I can confirm that plenty of good seats are still available.
  9. And in other transaction news, former Twin Bartolo Colon officially retired this morning at a Mets press conference.
  10. The challenge of a long season. Yes, Vazquez has 22 PAs more than Jeffers for the season. However, Vazquez had 37 more than Jeffers in April and May, so since the first of June, Jeffers has had more. In August and September, the advantage is 107-83 in favor of Jeffers.
  11. Sox announcers say Rocco will miss tomorrow’s game on paternity leave. Expecting twins. Will they be named Minnie and Paul?
  12. Mine: “Throw to third. They got Evans.”
  13. Preemptive comment? I personally think it started already on Friday. :-)
  14. Lewis with five grand slams in his first 16 homers. Hank Aaron hit his fifth grand slam on his 266th homer.
  15. Lewis has more career grand slams than Derek Jeter and Al Kaline. Combined.
  16. On Correa and Castro wearing No. 21, the White Sox announcers said that any player who has ever been nominated for the Clemente award gets to wear the number on this day. Cool idea.
  17. And actually, I just caught a picture without the helmet, and the resemblance was even stronger.
  18. I’m catching up on the DVR, but I just made the same comment to IT Jr.
  19. The same chart above shows Kirilloff being only slightly less atrocious than Julien against LHP. If you’re going to pinch hit for Kirilloff at that point, you have to take defense into account, so Solanonmakes sense. And if you’re going to pinch hit with four innings left, you don’t burn the catcher.
  20. To add to the Julien discussion, his nine hits against LHP includes eight singles. That speaks of an outfield defense playing shallow in that game situation, further lessening the likelihood of scoring the runner from second. Pinch hitting Vazquez led to bringing in a righty as expected. While Vazquez’s OPS vs RHP is pathetic this season, it’s actually .667 for his career. That’s significantly better than Julien vs.LHP.
