  1. I don't know if I'd call it broken considering that most pitchers get at minimum 10 times the yearly average salary ($59k), most Americans earn. Their pre-arbitration years are low but after that the gap explodes. If anything, I'd call it the unfortunate of the most fortunate.
  2. Graterol throws hard but he’s a one dimensional pitcher and definitely a one trick pony. From what I’ve heard from Dodgers fans they are disappointed in him because the Dodger’s pitching staff has tried working with him on other offerings but to no avail. His k rate is not good enough to be closer material either. Don’t get me wrong he’s not a bad RP, but he was overhyped to a degree and hasn’t developed as envisioned.
  3. To be even more precise: According to ESPN he countersued her for fraud, unless we are talking about a different incident (I don't think we are). "......July 2021 after the allegations were made by the woman, who said Bauer assaulted her on two different occasions during what she said began as consensual sexual encounters between them." ""Court records show Bauer's attorneys first denied her assault allegations in April and countersued her for fraud, labeling the woman's lawsuit and informal demands for money as "harassment."" They said Bauer has recordings of their conversations, which show the woman asked for "$1.6 million to terminate a pregnancy at her request." When asked to produce evidence of paternity, pregnancy, and the subsequent abortion (she at first claimed she refused to have one then had one) she was unable to do so on any of the court's requests, nor produce any evidence of the alleged assault and battery side of the allegation in court which is ultimately why their attorney's agreed to drop the case and settle out of court (no direct payment from him, but through insurance).
  4. Not only that, the Twins not long ago had a guy (Miguel Sano) with similar accusations thrown at him. A lot of the commenters here objecting to Bauer were strangely quiet and or even vehemently defended Sano in this forum. I don't understand the double standard (well I kind of do but won't elaborate on it here). If the Twins don't want any part of that baggage with Bauer plus the "alleged" clubhouse personality issues, fair enough. All I want is for this team to have a chance at making the playoffs again this season and if he can help do that, go for it. That said, I don't think the Twins do it.
  5. I say give him a minor league contract. He was not prosecuted, and the case was so weak in fact (she allegedly claimed he got her pregnant which turned out to be false), he countersued her.
  6. Here’s the problem with your statement. First of all he was proven innocent and it was also proven the woman making those accusations did it hoping to get a big paycheck and others piled on because she did. That’s NOT his fault that’s defamation. We DONT’ know if he disrespects women. In fact we don’t know at all. Did he defend himself vehemently? Yes he did and so would you or me if we were in his shoes. I can’t fault him for fighting back and being very upset about it. Has nothing to do with her being a woman and everything to do with her being a despicable human being and a crook. She’s lucky she didn’t get a felony conviction out of it. Now in regards to your second accusation about him being selfish, abrasive, a horrible clubhouse guy, etc. He’s a fierce competitor and no nonsense guy. Some people don't like that but if he performs and pushes other pitchers to excel I’m not opposed to having some fire in the clubhouse.
  7. This. I've been advocating the same thing. I think Luzardo is worth pursing but ultimately, the price will probably be much too high for the Twin's tastes. Alcantara on the other hand might be a bit less considering he's not going to be available in 2024. This would be more of a long term move than an immediate impact one, but I think the Twins still need to find another long-term starter. Anthony DeSclafani is not a long-term solution. I still think it's gonna take one of their better prospects to get either one. The question is who are the Twins willing to give up out of Brooks Lee, Royce Lewis, Emmanuel Rodriguez, Walker Jenkins, and David Festa?
  8. Are we talking about a whole season, his minor league career, or just a snippet of last season here? Because he still pitched almost a 5.00 era last season. That's not pretty good that's pretty mediocre. And in his major league deput he got shellacked. Look i want the guy to succeed just like everyone else, but I'm not convinced he's the 4 leaf clover in the field with the horses.
  9. When I listen to Thad it does not give me much optimism that they are gonna find anything by spring training. My gut tells me they end up rolling with the starters they have currently (Ryan, Ober, Lopez, Paddack, Varland). They would have to give up meaningful prospects to pry away any of Miami's remaining healthy starters and Miami's rotation is already thin with Alcantara down for the season. That means one of Perez, Luzardo, Garrett, Cabrera and Trevor Rogers. I just don't see the Twins trading for 1 year of Corbin Burnes. Oh well.
  10. SWR's minor league numbers are mediocre at best, and that's in the minors. I don't understand why fans are so fascinated with him on TD. I'm not sure he ever makes the majors.
  11. It's not like it matters. NOBODY is beating the Dodgers this year.
  12. I was wishy washy about both signings due to the size of both contracts. Both players when healthy are worth the money, but neither was completely healthy in 2023. If they sign another player to a 20-25 million + a year contract long term will really start to impact payroll flexibility although i have my doubts they will do so given the tv contract issues.
  13. The team may have been 15-19 in Gray's starts but he pitched VERY WELL in 2023 over 184 innings and was arguably the defacto ace before Lopez arrived. Early on before Lopez got acclimated and started stringing off wins Gray was the rotation leader. Maeda was up and down but he was a contributor in 2023 albeit over 104 innings but he pitched well in July, August, and September. The outcomes of these two pitcher's starts may not have been impressive, but they none the less heavily contributed to the team's success last season. I don't think the loss of these two pitchers is being "overstated," it will hurt no doubt. I also don't think anybody is saying Varland and Paddack "can't go .500 in 50 starts," (assuming they stay healthy), but the question is will they? Honestly, will they? Maybe. In fact I sure hope they do. That said what is the innings limit for Paddack? This will be his first full season back from TJ and Varland will likely be on an innings limit as well. Ober is positioned to take the biggest step forward in my opinion. None of the above 3 starters has gone 150+ innings in a season (Paddack pitched 140 innings in 2019 and 108 innings in 2021, Varland pitched 68 innings in 2023, Ober pitched 144 innings 2023).
  14. Losing Gray and Maeda hurts badly. Hopefully Ober, Varland, and Paddack can step into the void and fill those shoes.
  15. If the evidence is this offseason so far, I don't expect any moves of significance at all.
  16. There's no doubt the injury contributed to his issues, but his tendency to throw too many fastballs was also a factor. To be honest it's something that can be fixed. I like both pitchers and think they will be big contributors in this upcoming season along with Paddack and certainly Lopez.
  17. "criminally"? 🤔 okayyyyy. Anyhow. I believe Ober is the underrated one. I like Ryan's potential a lot, but he's got to cut back on the number of fastballs thrown in each start otherwise he's going to continue to get clobbered. He has a tendency to throw up in the strike zone and teams figured this out as the season moved along and he got dinged a lot for it.
  18. Ryan is prone to fading because he throws fastballs 56% of the time. That's far too high considering he leaves them up in the zone where they can get clobbered easily.
  19. Not really. He was mediocre for most of his career except 1963, 64, and 65.
  20. I've never been impressed with his "stuff" or his command. There seems to be an obsession with SWR and I just don't see it given his minor league results so far.
  21. I never suggested it either, lol. I would take a flyer on Cabrera for the right price. He’s had control issues to say the least but he’s got raw velocity and can strike guys out at a decent clip it’s just the walks that are brutal.
  22. and yet he recorded 119 strikeouts in 99 innings. Interestingly, Ken Rosenthal previously stated "Texas Ranger's infielder Ezequiel Duran is the kind of infielder the Marlins would want for Cabrera, although Ranger's general manager Chris Young has said the club has a super high bar as to what Duran would cost during in a trade." per Bleacher report. Would an age 30 Polanco be equivalent? Probably not.
  23. yes, a typo and should have been spelled WALKER Jenkins, (strike me down with lightning for a spelling error lol). Anyhow, I only mentioned Cabrera per the earlier poster's point that he is a starting pitcher that the Marlins CONTROL through 2028 and worth pursuing. Options were not brought up. The prize is Luzardo though, I agree. And I don't agree that Cabrera can't throw strikes. In 2023 he struck out 118 batters in 99.2 innings. If (and I state if) the Twins flipped Polanco for Cabrera in a trade (it would take more than that), I'd take that in a heartbeat and RUN.
  24. Exactly! This discussion is so farfetched it's laughable. Miami IS NOT going to trade for an older player like Polanco in exchange for one of its prized starters. It's just foolish to think otherwise. The only way that happens is if the Twins throw in Brooks Lee or Walter Jenkins, (possibly both) to get Luzardo or Cabrera, which there's no way in Hades the Twins do that, but that's what it would take. What the Twins COULD do is work out a deal for Sandy Alcantara who just underwent UCL TJ and will miss all of 2024. You might be able to swing something with Miami that's not as painful and get him without emptying the farm knowing that he's a free agent in 2028. Of course that does nothing to help the Twins this season in the starting pitching department.
  25. I don't think he'll get another chance either. He's 31. That's late in a career to be trying to make a comeback. Sano was his own worst enemy. He also seemed to lack the ability to adapt as teams adapted to his hitting approach, plus the poor plate discipline, and laziness. He sealed his own fate. It's sad and we wish him all the best if really tries to comeback, but the fact that no team offered him a minor league contract.....well it is what it is. He got his millions and now he's set for life.
