He hit 22 bombs in the SEC while walking about 20% of the time and putting up a 154 wRC+. The catching improved, too. If he can be viable behind the plate, great, but he’s there to endanger the lives of fans in the second deck." I tend to agree. My guess is they had their eyes on Logan Reddeman but the Rockies got him first.

    The player's union says they are totally against it, but if you get away from the big player contracts to the lesser guys, I'm sure in secret they are gung ho for a salary floor. They are the ones that will benefit most from a salary floor not the star players already getting paid massive contracts

    Still a hole at 1st. Lewis is doing slightly better, but still not much better than before his demotion.

    I'm gonna buck the trend in the comments and say pick Jackson Flora. A top of the rotation college pitcher will progress rapidly through the system. The Twins need as many top arms coming up as possible. Ryan is not gonna be a Twin within a year or so, and Lopez is gonna be gone soon too if he ever returns to his former self after TJ surgery. Ober is also seeing his last days as a Twin. The Twins have some solid pieces in Taj and Abel. Matthews and Prielipp look promising, but Festa is still a question mark as is Rojas. While I'd like to have Lackey or Emerson, I still think the underlying urgent need is pitching. Culpepper will be ready soon at SS and there are several promising catchers in the system now. However, all that said I don't think the Twins can go wrong taking one of Emerson, Cholowsky, Lackey, or Flora.

    At least it's not TJ. I just hope he doesn't come back and then has to go under the knife again for internal bracing. That would be devastating.

    He wants to remain a Twin so understandable. I think the Twins trade him in 2028. By then they will have sustained two maybe three straight seasons of losing and will need the prospects after Ryan, Jeffers, and Lopez are gone. To be honest I think they should start retooling now. Jeffers is gone, Ryan will surely be gone, Lopez is out for the entire year and will be rehabbing in 2027. It makes on sense to cling to Buxton. By the time the Twins have a decent team again he's likely mid 30's.

    The truth is they are not drafting well nor are they developing prospects well. The talent just isn't there. With so many teams in baseball now talent is diluted too.

    Mmmmm i don't know about that. The players union is pretty damn stupid too. This last proposal by the owners for a cap and floor is actually a really good offer especially for the non-star athletes. It will almost assuredly cause a significant rise in wages for the non-star players with a salary floor set at 170 million.

    Let's keep it real. That's a flash in the pan stat line, 1 GAME. SWR threw like absolute crap the past season and a half and this year he was worse.

    Exactly. Royce Lewis’s pitch recognition is atrocious and MLB starters know he can’t lay off the offspeed stuff. He just chases everything that drop out of the zone and he’s still doing it with the Saints. Given what we’ve seen and what he’s said in posts to the media it APPEARS he’s difficult to coach and or incredibly stubborn.

    This. Switching to 1st base is a significant shift. I’ve watched a few of his games and yes he’s clubbed some home runs. The question has never been that Royce Lewis does not have power in his bat it’s his discipline at the plate and his eye as well. I see not difference with his approach in AAA. He’s punishing AAA starters which he should as an MLBer against inferior pitching. Once he’s called back up he’ll have a short hot streak and return to mediocrity. I hope I’m wrong, but he was chasing everything out of the strike zone before.

    Bingo and the homers are already circling the wagons around him just like they did with Sano when he was hitting so poorly.

    He’s not. He’s just hitting home runs. His plate discipline hasn’t really changed he’s just punishing AAA pitching which he should. I see WAY too many fans going ga ga over this but when he comes backs up im not expecting a different Lewis from before

    If he falls into the Twins lap, draft him. Nothing wrong with an elite catching prospect.

    This. The pro players and the pro union folks are like the players, the players, the players. You can’t set a floor without setting a cap otherwise nothing is accomplished except bankrupting teams. I know a lot of people will scoff at that notion but the Dodgers had a 400 million dollar payroll last season and routinely gobble up most of the high profile free agents, international signings, and dominate the trade deadlines because they are willing to spend as much as it takes to the extreme. That’s just bad for baseball parity in general. I’m actually very surprised at the offer from MLB to the union which has a very good floor. That will offer a lot more to the players that aren’t stars than just a hard cap with low spending floor which only really benefits the high profile stars. Prolonged Strike incoming I think. MLB is very serious about this.
