  1. Bummer. There's one team the Twins can't deal for space with......I hope they aren't waiting this out.
  2. I would rather 5 guys in the top 20, I agree.......well, I'd rather they had gone way over 2-3 years ago, and done what the Cubs did this year, but that's the past. With an impending draft, I'm not super annoyed they aren't doing what I'd do, but I'm not thrilled with the strategy the last few years. Until we see what happens this year, I won't judge it.
  3. Then what? At some point, you have to actually make a decision......
  4. that hasn't been the Twins' strategy though.......it has been 1 - 2 guys for more than $250K, and then a bunch of cheaper guys. You are calling for 5 guys in the top 20......they've only signed 1 most years, right? Miguel Cabrera signed how many years ago? That's not even a real number now.
  5. I was responding to a post......and didn't say they would do it any place in that post.
  6. Where does it stop? 7 man rotation? 10 man rotation? If the logic is "less use, stretched out more is good" where does that logic stop? There are only 24 spots on the bench, this creates issues.
  7. Uh, McDaniel is a former professional scout, and highly respected writer. I'm pretty sure he understands what he's typing.
  8. Others that make more than $250 or $300K (whatever the limit is)? Are there any left?
  9. Agreed, if they go over by this small amount, and lose out on next year just for signing 1 guy? that would be awful use of resources, just awful.
  10. Kepler got the most money any European ever had (has?)......I'm pretty sure that is going big...... As posted above, Polanco and Kepler got real money, not $250K money.
  11. So, rather than make a hard decision, they are punting......ugh.* *assuming they go 6.....if not, yay!
  12. Kris Bryant has put up the 26th most offensive WAR in the majors this year, even after missing some time at the beginning of the year. I have no idea what this post means.....he's been awesome this year.
  13. It seems unlikely all the other teams giving out million dollar bonuses are high on those players, and the Twins are not. I just don't think this is their (Ryan's) style.......
  14. Like the Cubs just did? I wish the Twins would have done this..... "The Cubs have made a splash early in the international market by locking up a lengthy list of players to significant bonuses. MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez first reported the bulk of the signings. Among the players inked, the biggest bonus goes to Yonathan Sierra Estiwal, an outfielder from the Dominican Republic, who’ll get $2.5MM. Another $2MM will go to countryman Aramis Ademan, a shortstop, whose signing was first reported by Ben Badler of Baseball America with Sanchez adding the cash value. Also checking in with seven-figure bonuses were Venezuelan shortstop Yonathan Perlaza ($1.3MM), Panamanian catcher Miguel Amaya ($1.25MM), and Dominican corner infielder Christopher Martinez ($1MM). Sanchez adds that righty Yunior Perez is also going to Chicago for $600K." This is how you end up with Sano, Kepler, Polanco.....going big.
  15. I'm glad Bard is in the bullpen..... Nice month for these guys. Hopefully as they all move up, they can keep it up.
  16. Most of the top players (other than maybe a Cuban or two) are already locked in. I don't know if they can go big this year at this point.......so I'm not holding my breath. Also, the Dodgers are buying every Cuban, as far as can be confirmed at this point this year......so good luck with that. Kiley predicts that teams that go over this year or next will be punished in the next CBA, so it is not w/o risk to do so (likely losing a draft pick, would be my guess, assuming there is an Int'l draft). Only 3-4 teams are expected to go all in this year. Next year's crop (where have we heard that before) is supposed to be better.
  17. Fair, though I doubt that's why people weren't posting more...... I'm surprised there aren't more guesses over how much DH or 3B time he'll get, for one. Plenty of people are saying to temper our expectations, no prospect should be expected to be good, linking to articles saying that, quoting Ryan saying that.......I don't get why other teams can call up ELITE prospects, and expect them to be good, but the Twins and their fans can't.
  18. From the linked article (last year's rules, not sure if they changed): •All overages are taxed at 100 percent. •Exceed bonus pool by 5 to 10 percent: Team is not allowed to sign a player for more than $500K in the following international signing period. •Exceed by 10 to 15 percent: Team is not allowed to sign a player for more than $300K in the following international signing period. •Exceed by more than 15 percent: Team is not allowed to sign a player for more than $300K in the following two international signing periods.
  19. It's not the money, they have plenty of money. What else will they do this year, that's the question.
  20. Sure, post stuff blocked on my work computer, make me use my phone.....
  21. Sigh.....why can't we talk about the news, and not posters. I don't know how this can be considered "fast"....he's one of the last elite prospects to get a promotion this year. As for expectations, why can't we expect Bryant, Pederson, Correa type results? Whey should an ELITE prospect come up, and we should expect them to be bad?
  22. I'd say my love for that last part was less strong, but I have not decided where I stand on that right now.......
