  1. Isn't Sano the DH? If he's the 3B, then you have Plouffe to get a C........w/o giving up any prospects to do so. You expect them to acquire another SP from outside? I don't. they won't be spending tens of millions on the bullpen, will they? Tulo does fix SS....moving it from the WORST position player in all of baseball, to one of the best. That's a big swing, imo.
  2. I'm not the one saying they'll find a SS and C that are good in FA next year....you won't find me typing that for sure. Others are saying one of the reasons not to acquire Tulo is that they need that money for signing a SS and a C......
  3. What is their record against those teams in MN? Is it that different? How do they play on the road in general compared to these teams?
  4. The FA list is a known quantity right now. If he manages to spend $20MM on a SS and C, something bad happened. As for a trade, it is possible, sure, but that has nothing to do with signing FAs, which is what I thought we were discussing.
  5. Great, I'd love a big deal for an elite player in the off season. I don't see that happening either......btw, I don't see anyone arguing for trading for a 2 month rental in most of these threads.
  6. It isn't that they won't spend money, it is that there isn't a SS or C worth spending money on as a FA. Look at the lists......just plain bad. And, he has bought 4 medium priced pitchers, but not one ace type that is going to cost 20MM per year for 5-7 years (nor am I saying he should).
  7. Where are they spending that next offseason? Not on a FA SS or C. Not on an elite SP. Probably not on an OF or 3B or 1B or 2B. Where is that money going? Which 3-4 guys are they going to rotate thru? They aren't rotating Arcia through, or any of the SP in AAA that could be RP. They aren't rotating the worst position player in MLB with another guy. I'm not making these suggestions in a vacuum, I'm looking at how Ryan and Molitor are using their options today, and drawing the conclusion that we are not getting a lot of rotating/testing. They didn't do it last year, they aren't doing it this year.
  8. More risky: relying on guys never having played in the majors, or relying on Tulo?
  9. It's a fair stance to take, if you think Santana is a prospect to be a legit MLB SS. I don't share that belief, but if that is their belief, I am glad that they are sticking with it. My choice would be to go with Escobar, who is about the same level prospect in my mind.
  10. You can be more talented and win less games.......just look at the As this year.......
  11. so they'll be more than 9 games over .500 at the ASB?
  12. Trea Turner sure would look nice right about now.....
  13. And I thought I was rough on this team...... I don't see how you think they can possibly compete next year either, frankly, since there are no catchers or SS available in FA, and they aren't signing an ACE.
  14. And if Buxton is hurt again next year, then what? So if no one looks like that top pitcher next year either, then what? that third one is fixable, and yet, they haven't really tried any internal options at all. I don't think they are awesome either, but I think throwing away the banked wins this year is like throwing away a 5-10 WAR player starting next year.....
  15. Agreed....what would convince you otherwise? If Sano and Buxton were both here and healthy?
  16. It is a bad trade to trade a legit prospect for a bad RP, that isn't hindsight.
  17. what veterans are they trading for good, MLB ready, players? Or, are they trading for more prospects, meaning 2017 or later?
  18. how do you propose they get that ace if you won't over pay for one in FA or trade? Because there isn't one in the pipeline at all right now.
  19. given that take, no way they go for Tulo. He's not a "move the runner over, steal bases, look good not making any plays" SS that they seem to like so much here.....didn't think of that until these last few posts about Hardy....
  20. I agree that will be the response.....right or wrong.
  21. You said this: "Unless you are the Yankees, Red Sox or Dodgers you make the big trade or FA signing to try to put a strong team over the top, not to try to re-work a borderline team" now you disagree, and it is ok to trade / sign a FA, even if they aren't 1 player from going over the top? If so, why wait, why not do it now (if that player is around for 2-3 more years)?
  22. But that's not what I or anyone is asking them to do, so it's not a good example of what is being discussed here. It's an example of a bad trade, going for it or not. I can give all kinds or examples of good and bad trades, but since no one is asking for this kind of trade, it is not a real good rebuttal, imo.
  23. So, do nothing this offseason either, that is big, since it is the same team?
  24. Not one place have I said trade a legit prospect for a replacement level RP......no where on this entire board, ever.
  25. Is next year supposed to be a good year? Can they trade for real players then?
