  1. Never give up an out in the 2nd inning. Simple math, people.
  2. It is a well known fact that the 3rd time thru the order is bad.....which is why some teams use their bullpen the way they do.
  3. Five, compared to Rogers ever being 5.........what are the odds Rogers is ahead of him for more than a start here and there? As you point out, Rogers is behind A LOT of people, not counting Berrios and Stewart and Hu and Gonsalves.......
  4. True. They have done it in the past, my point was.....putting him in the bullpen this year means nothing for his long term future. Except maybe he has a chance to make the bigs sooner......It doesn't ruin him. It doesn't doom him to the bullpen forever.
  5. And, the Cardinals would have him in the pen this year, and starting next year. I don't get why the Twins can't follow that path. I'd think Berrios is your #5 next year......
  6. Congrats on the call up. What a great read, which I somehow missed.....
  7. That split thing is interesting, thanks. The last 8 innings.....compared to the last 1.5 years.....not sure I'm convinced.....
  8. What is Duensing's role, if someone else is the LOOGY?
  9. 1. More players get market money, and are not limited as much. 2. More players get to pick where they go. 3. It isn't punishment, if part of the purpose is to help bad teams get better faster........ You seem to only be looking at the team side, and not the player side. And, if you don't let the bad teams to have some advantages, it doesn't work very well. If you only set a pool, and everyone can play, you are once again keeping wages down. Like I said, the details are debatable, but I'd like to see more players get market money, and teams to be able to really go for the guys they love, and for more players to choose where they go. Those would be my top priorities, along with giving bad teams an advantage in signing more/better players. I forgot to add, if a bottom 10 teams signs 3 players in any 1 year, they can only sign 1 the next year. That way teams are less incented to tank multiple years.
  10. I'd guess if they really thought those low price guys were doing to be this good, they'd have offered them more, and had deals in place early, to make sure they didn't lose them. Clearly, the real key is scouting, but let's not pretend that they think the $250K guys are as likely to work out as the $1MM guys......
  11. I'd make some bold changes. 1. the worst 5-10 teams get $10MM to sign any 3 players they want, international or US.They have a 3 week window to do this. Each team gets the same money. You can trade money to someone else in this pool, if you are in it. 2. Any player not signed goes to the next pool period. The next 10 teams get 2 weeks to sign guys, but the max is $1MM per player. Each team has a pool of $2MM. They can sign up to 3.You can trade money to someone else in this pool, if you are in it. 3. Any player not signed goes into a draft, of the teams not in the playoffs. The order is best team to worst team, rewarding those teams that did well. These players can make up to $1MM, but take the chance on not going to a team they want to go to. 4. Any player not signed goes into a draft. This is like a regular draft. Players can sign for up to 750K. Clearly, the details are not 100% certain, but something like that. Lots of players get market money, and to choose their team......that's a big step forward. I'd say International guys have to be 18, just like US guys, to be in this. How to manage the international stuff is the trickiest part, imo.
  12. Rogers and Duffey can be in MN as RP, and still maybe be starters someday, works for other organizations......works well for them, actually. I'd prefer Rogers up, as a LOOGY who can also get out right handers. I'd like Achter up. Duensing isn't the LOOGY now, with O'Rourke up? I am interested to see how this works out.....
  13. I'd prefer a change of some kind to both drafts....... some combo of spending pools and draft picks . And, yes, one of the main purposes of the draft is to keep wages down.
  14. Like, a sacrifice fly is cool, but a ground out that drives in a run is not cool......why?
  15. eliminate the "sacrifice" as a stat completely? An out is an out is an out? Maybe too simple.....
  16. In looking at BA..... 2010....one guy for more than 250K, as far as I can tell 2011....one guy for more than $400K, as far as I can tell 2012....one guy for big bucks, one guy for $500K, the rest under 250K 2013....one big guy, one guy for 550K If they signed a "pile" of 500-800K guys every year, plus a big signing, they'd go over.....
  17. Gausman is back in the rotation? Man, they have jerked him around a lot.......
  18. Escept there is no evidence it helps......
  19. Given that some guys get millions, and others 100K.....it is clear that teams feel there are talents they are much more confident in. Given that those guys are usually the ones in and around the top 20 lists, I feel pretty good working off the lists. YMMV, of course.
  20. What evidence, other than the Mets who have almost all young arms that have never pitched many innings, do we see of this evolution to 6 man rotations?
  21. I can live with that, assuming they eventually act.
  22. So, after 3 months, we are sure they are all the same, and will decide after 1-2 more starts what to do, based on those 1-2 more starts? Hmmmmm.
  23. Bummer. There's one team the Twins can't deal for space with......I hope they aren't waiting this out.
