  1. And, who is likely to be better the next three years? Me, I'll predict that Tulo will be better than a guy that can't throw the ball to the 1B in AAA. I could be wrong for sure, but if I had to bet, I'd bet on the Tulo.
  2. Not getting him pretty much means Santana stays out there, right? I mean, we are in July, and he's still there........why would anything change unless something really changed? To the person that said Tulo's past means nothing, do you really think Polanco is likely to put up more WAR in the next three years than Tulo?
  3. If he's so good, why isn't he here? Why does he have 7 (or more) errors in AAA already?
  4. someone said "they aren't real this year, look for how good they will be in 2017"....I didn't put 2017 out there, not one bit. I can't help they've made terrible decisions on certain contracts, the questions is if you won't try to win in a year where you have already banked a 9 game over .500 post ASB standing....when will you? How do you expect to fill these holes at C and SS and 1B and elite pitcher, if not by trading guys and spending money? And, if you are willing to do that next year, when you don't have a 9 game head start, why not this year?
  5. And still put up 5 WAR every year.....then add 1 WAR for his replacement! wow.....
  6. now we are punting 2015 and 2016, and can't expect a good team until 2017? Man, those bars keep moving....
  7. so, they are good enough next year, w/o 9 banked wins, with the same players to go all in? How does that work, exactly? Or are you suggesting they are going to sign ANOTHER SP, and C and SS? I'm confused, frankly.
  8. If only Mauer wasn't......you could slide Tulo to 1B when Gordon is ready. That would be nice.
  9. and you plan to fix those flaws, w/o making a trade next year, how? Who is the FA C or SS or SP they will sign to magically create a team w/o a flaw? yes, they have been lucky, but what are the odds they are lucky next year? They have banked these wins, wins they don't have next year or the year after.........should they just give up that asset for the year?
  10. He's so good, that he still puts up 4-5 WAR every year.....every stinking year. And his OPS outside Coors only looks bad compared to the ridiculous numbers in Coors. those numbers are still very, very good. I understand the counter argument, but at some point you play to win. I was hoping a year that you are 9 games over .500 after the ASB would be one of those years, but I guess we can just wait until next year, when the next reason to try not to win comes up.....
  11. I do agree, there is risk here........but I'd still consider it.
  12. Which is more than Santana has shown this year.......lots of guys get traded that don't look like much until they actually play. I'm not saying Escobar is awesome, but he is better than Santana right now, imo.
  13. there is a delta between "not throwing him under the bus" and "praising him like he's really good"....and using catch phrases that you just don't read from 2015 based FOs. You can say they don't "need" to find a catcher this year, but you are then just punting that spot in the order, defense and offense. They technically don't need to find a SS or RP or anything else either, unless they want to increase their odds of winning.
  14. Have you looked at his away splits, and compared those to other SS? They are still very, very good. And, remember, this is a bump of some kind for all home games, but yes, coors makes that even bigger.
  15. Hmmmmmm......I guess the question is, how much do you believe in Berrios? Enough to deal Gibson? do I want Gibson and Berrios or one of them and Tulo? clearly, other players move as part of this...... I would have no issue including Polanco in any deal that includes Tulo. Would I do Berrios and Polanco and something else that is actually valuable? I don't know. I am more inclined to keep Gibson, since he is succeeding in the majors.....
  16. Zunino is really, really, really struggling. He seems to be getting worse every year. Great example of why sometimes you trade prospects...... I'm not sure if I trust him enough to give up much of anything for him. Meyer for him straight up, in a trade of "wt# happened to him".....I'd do that, probably.
  17. Wow, that is one depressing read, quotes form the 70s and 80s, or maybe it is an Onion article just copying things FO and manager types said 30 years ago? He may or may not be great prepping pitchers before the game, but on the field, he's not good. Offense. Defense. Running. Nothing is even close to median, let alone "ok".
  18. What would the Yankees want for Gary Sanchez? He has supposedly improved his catching this year, and could be an average catcher if things work out......It likely helps more next year than this year.....but they are leading their division, and could use some things. Admittedly, I may be reaching here....
  19. MLR, good to read from you again...... I would be very hard pressed to trade Dozier, very. I think he's a top 15-20 or so player right now. You rarely win in the elite for numbers game, and I don't know what C I could get that is even close to Dozier. I'd have to think long and hard about it (there are a lot of players I'd trade him for, but they won't be traded....).
  20. I wouldn't dump them both, but I also probably would not keep them both at this point. I don't agree that ABW doesn't deserve a shot at AAA, or Kepler for that matter, but I can see the argument for keeping them down for the rest of this year, but next year? If they continue this pace? They should be in AAA. What do you do for them, the real prospects, at that point? Worry about the org guys, or worry about them and the Twins? Those choices aren't always exclusive, imo, but next year? Those two should be in AAA unless something changes. It is a hard choice, imo, because these are people who deserve to be treated well (like any person).
  21. I love Buxton, that wasn't the question.....I would love Lindor or Correa or Seager too. I would not trade Buxton, without some kind of INSANE package coming back. So, no, I would not deal him for any catcher I can think of right now.
  22. Right, either they continue to go well below talent level at catcher, or they have to deal real talent to get it (I don't see a FA catcher they would sign next year).
  23. Will Ortiz or Farris every play for the Twins at this point? It seems a bit unlikely.....
  24. Give the job to Escobar, demote Santana to AA (or Polanco to AA). Normally I'd say play Santana, to get the young guy time.....but, Escobar isn't that old, Santana is not a super prized prospect (imo), and they are contending. Give the team the best chance to win, please. Frankly, I think Polanco is a 2B, and he should be dealt, but that's a different thread...... I don't like any of the targets Seth listed all that much.
