  1. that's a reasonable stance, and it is hard to argue against it. I just don't love the options this year or next, unless Gonsalves and another SP are good, in which case you don't need Santana as much, and Dozier is maybe redundant.
  2. Because I don't think they are good enough next year, unless they can get help from AA. If they can get help from AA, then getting a SP NEXT YEAR for Santana isn't that important anyway, imo. And, Santana won't be good forever, probably. I'd guess he has maybe 1 good year left. After that? HUGE step back for this team, unless the guys they have and trade for are good in 19 and beyond.
  3. Of those 8, some won't really be available, assuming you counted Sale, for example.... but, they'll have to outbid some teams for sure. I just don't see a difference maker there, that will actually be available and signed by this team.
  4. I've never (I don't think) insisted they get someone that would be ready next year, unlike others.
  5. I admit to not knowing the list of 100 some SPs that might be available in other minor league systems. And, I'm not thinking only about next year. I'm thinking the next 4-7 years.
  6. Which of these would be available, and better than Santiago? https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/08/2017-18-mlb-free-agent-list.html
  7. Nope. It's all on the FO insisting on signing old, bad, pitchers (and injuries). Molitor can only pitch the guys he's given. He doesn't always us them they way I would, but you can't pitch the same 3-4 guys every single day. But, right now, they have legit prospects that are healthy thru June. How about calling up even 1 of them....
  8. 1. The coverage here has been amazing. I doubt there is another site on the web this good (for 1 team). Thank you all. 2. Taking a "soft tossing" SP would really annoy me. 3. I want upside more than anything else, so I go Greene or Gore. 4. I don't see them getting shots at ACE types in FA, like the Cubs or other teams, so i don't think they can ignore pitching early as a strategy. 5. I would be good with Greene, Gore, Wright. 6. I would be less good with others. 7. 7 teams have at least 1 more pick before the Twins, and the spreads aren't as big as previous years. So, I don't think saving money to get a guy to drop is as easy this year.
  9. These are the RPs this FO keeps picking, over other options.
  10. Based on that, how do you propose fixing the pitching next year, if you won't trade Santana or Dozier or anyone else? Because, they aren't signing a good FA next year.
  11. which is why you call him up in a year you aren't a real contender, to get him exposure. Going to count on Gonsalves or anyone else next year from AA? Get them up this year to get a taste. Otherwise, you think they'll go with 2 rookies?
  12. Fans care about winning. If they make a good trade, and the team wins, no one will care they are gone.
  13. He's too good to trade, but the return would not be good.... Either try to win, or trade veterans. This half way stuff does not work. They are one of the worst pitching staff in baseball. This is another smoke and mirrors season. As pointed out, the Yankees were smart enough to trade off players last year. As for why someone would trade for him if he might tail off, the assumption would be they are playing for this year.
  14. Have you looked at the free agent class?
  15. I still don't understand why s high school player is signing under slot especially a boras client. I would be good with him as the pick.
  16. So, he is just going to defy aging? Not trading him until he has no value, while the team isn't in the playoffs, is how teams extend rebuilding longer.
  17. Brave man, sir. I'd endorse that, if I knew anything about the players. Knowing what I know, I like the idea of the HS pitchers at 35 and 7..... I also love the Schwartz pick. It's like picking up a former top prospect that flamed out in the minors, only earlier. Dude was a top 10 pick after his freshman year.....
  18. They do. And it is a bummer for them when he is wrong. side trek: I still can't figure out why Appel can't pitch. He had it ALL in college.
  19. Seriously? Being wrong sometimes makes you greedy or bad at your job? You really think his agency only represents or helps the elite?
  20. Three teams picking a second time before the Twins.... Don't get cute, draft the best player.
  21. I like Wade more than Rosario. No way I am trading him right now. Well, almost no way.
