  1. Most of what I've read is glowing. I found it, um, not as entertaining as I wanted. Can't put my finger on why, exactly......I think for me it was too much the story of 1 person, and not a group. Star Trek always seems like a group to me.
  2. Well, the first episode of Star Trek had some lighter moments, but seemed pretentious to me......will be good to watch it in a year or three when it doesn't cost me more money.....
  3. I am really surprised, and pleased, how this year has gone. I would have placed ridiculous odds on making the playoffs.
  4. Episode three of The Orville was great. Like classic TNG.
  5. I'm confused by the statement that they must be wrong because they change as new information comes, and as the ability close the gap decreases. If they didn't change every day, we'd have a really bad problem....those are odds, nothing more or less than probability estimates. help me understand your statements. How are they w/o meaning, exactly?
  6. actually, third time thru the order penalty doesn't require any fan knowledge .....it's just plainly there.
  7. yes, thanks. that does help! and no more shots at D&D please....
  8. so, never question the manager? Not sure I understand the post, frankly. Help me out.
  9. Aren't most games close, though? What matters is winning. And, as we saw right before the deadline, and again this week, is that that is unlikely against good teams. They've made progress this year, but need pitching.
  10. I remember that game.
  11. but the research is clear, that's true for home court in general, or home field, or home pitch and not specific to one team. and yes, that's another argument for robot umps, imo. that was not the contention being made at all.
  12. that's totally different, though. I believe in that also. I'm talking about hundreds/thousands of games being umpired differently, with dozens/hundreds of people in on the conspiracy.
  13. so you do believe that there is a conspiracy to help the Yankees, and no one has ever come forward about it in over 30 years? I'm genuinely curious to understand if you believe umpires have been told to help the Yankees win.
  14. Another great article! Hard to quibble with the choices. Nicely done.
  15. It isn't the baseball gods. It's the front office. While Molitor can't be blamed for who he has, there have been curious decisions along the way, imo. But at this point, I'm not sure he's doing much wrong, other than not pulling starters fast enough. Of course, that means more innings for Gee and Tonkin and others....so not sure what the answer is, really.
  16. so, the Twins get the advantage at TF....what's the issue? I think blaming the umpires/refs is tedious. The Twins didn't pitch all that well, and they scored all of 2 runs....that's on them. And I don't get why they stopped trying to bunt for hits. I would have kept it up all night with my non-power hitters....until CC was out of the game. It certainly appears that the Twins have a mental block in NY.
  17. sure, there's a chance anyone can be better for 1 year, or 3 months, or whatever. But would you bet on it straight up? Do people think anyone is likely to hit 325/372/589 over a year? Two players slugged that high all last year. Four had a BA that high all last year. Seven are SLG that high this year (giving credit to 2 just short of that). Four have a BA that high this year. He could easily be the best BSR in a given year, imo. I'll take the under. Don't get me wrong, Buxton might be great even discounting his defense, but that seems unlikely.
  18. someone literally posted up thread that next year Buxton could be better than Trout. Do people really think Buxton is going to be better than Trout?
  19. I do agree, the key take away from that game is that the Yankees are probably just plain better than the Twins overall.....
  20. So, they just had no chance? I don't buy that. Stop giving away outs to start....
  21. This is what you get when you invest and try to win, versus always building for the future. Maybe some year, maybe some year
  22. Sigh. Investing in the bullpen, and trading for good pitching. Who would have thought that was a good idea? At least we have them a free out....
