  1. Neither of which is close to as good as him. Which is the point. I'd like actual good players here, not affordable ones.
  2. It is a very deep system.....let's hope they have improved the development side.
  3. Of course....this all started with someone saying they can "easily" replace him FA next year if he leaves....
  4. No one claims WAR is perfect. But to say it is arbitrary is a disservice to the very smart people working on it every day. Including every front office, who have their own versions.
  5. The Dodgers have all stars at third and short. One of whom was injured last year, so they traded for Machado. It isn't about anything more than that. And cheapness, of course.
  6. Actually, outside one season where he was injured, Harper has been a decent to good fielder. But in general, I agree, he's not a difference maker on defense.
  7. That was in reply to a post about spending free agent money next year to get pitching..... If they don't sign Gibson, who are the pitchers next year?
  8. Are there better free agents available?
  9. If they don't extend or QO Gibson, who are the pitchers? It's not like they actively tried out guys last fall..... Gibson, Sano, Buxton in that order. I'd consider Rosario, but if you believe in Kirriloff and Lanarch and others....maybe not. Given I have no idea what their budget is, it is hard to say with any certainty.....
  10. Not quite right......because Garver will play about the same amount with Realmuto as Castro, so the delta is between Castro and Realmuto.....so the delta is more like 2.5 WAR. But, the real point is........they can afford to add a great player if they want to.
  11. I forgot about the option. Yes, it's better than nothing. I'm not in love that it is a DH, but it is what it is.
  12. People ignore the self fulfilling prophecy all the time. Don't add great players, then say, see, they weren't ready.... All we are asking for is using their assets on two established players. Heck, start with one. Not on a one year deal.
  13. I'd rather Garver was the main catcher, but otherwise agree with all this. Great stuff, as always.
  14. I would have done it for three years of control. I'm slightly less likely for two.... But yes, he's being criminally under rated in this thread.
  15. Whether you think they are good or not, Machado is 26 (I think), and should be very good to great for 5-10 more years. If they aren't competitive in that timeframe, it won't be because they have a great player in Machado (or Harper)...... This isn't some 30 year old we are talking about here.
  16. False hustle is silly. They are more likely to pull a hamstring than get to first in time to be safe. And I'm 54, this isn't about generations.
  17. No risk? I've never once said there is no risk. Of course there is risk in any decision. There is risk in relying on five one year deals, year after year. There is risk in relying on your farm almost exclusively. I've said that if you trust the front office to have their jobs, you have to trust them to spend well, even when they spend big. But I've never said no risk. Given that they have one "proven" starter under control past this year, I would have signed Corbin, but I understand why some would not. I would have have extended Gibson, I don't understand the inactivity there. And yes, if they could trade for a good pitcher with three or more years of control, I'd give up prospects. I understand the arguments against that, I don't agree with them. Not for a team with deep position players, and almost no pitching under control. That's about the context of this team, but a general principle.
  18. Prove ready in spring training? I hope they aren't deciding in the spring......Mejia is out of options, he's on the 25 man.... How will we know if they are ready if they aren't pitching in the majors?
  19. Neither of which are starters.....I am ok, not thrilled, but ok if they think they can make him an effective reliever. But, IMO, given how many pitchers they have under contract past this year (Berrios and Mejia), they should not take up the fifth spot with a guy like this, with very little track record of success. IMO they need to learn about Mejia, Gonsalves, Stewart, Thorpe, etc this year, so they know how many gaping holes they have next year. I don't think this guy does anything other than block those players and decrease the Twins' knowledge. Hope to be wrong, obviously.
  20. It should be 100% clear that we are talking about getting a plaque......if not, that's 100% what I meant. He is one of the 3 best players ever.
  21. No one is concerned about the money, it's the roster spot.
  22. TX is trying to win? Wow, they need help.
  23. How sad is it that this far into the rebuild, most fans here are unsure anyone other than Berrios and maybe Rosario should be extended? That level of production is disappointing.
