  1. Out of options? Not interested at all. They don't need another Robbie Grossman (though odds are this guy is worse) they can't move around to AAA and back. I'm also with van.....get some great players, don't clutter up the 25 man with replacement players. Like, you know, Milwaukee.....
  2. So expose him.....if they lose him, they never had him. No biggie either way most likely.
  3. Incredibly deep, deep, deep, deep farm system and young MLB, I'd guess.....
  4. Buxton was awesomish in 2017, Sano and Castro were good, and the team won a whopping 85 games. With ESan being the best he could possibly be. Oh, and where is the Dozier season coming from on this roster? This team isn't close to being great, not even a little. All I want is a choice, go in some for this year, but with an eye on teh future (stop only signing 1 year FA deals......), or tear down more than they have. Nothing about last off season made me think this FO thought this was close to a very good team....all of their moves were short term, and on the margins. So, I could get behind this practice, under 2 conditions. first: They are SUPER AGGRESSIVE with promotions and letting young players fail so they can learn and get better. If Kiriloff is killing the ball, and not in MN, then this plan is not for me. Because there is talent enough to be really good in 2020, but only if some of it gets experience this year. second: They are aggressive about adding MLB talent in 2020 and 21, in FA and trades, to fix whatever holes exist. If they just sit on the money, well, good luck..... I would be better with this plan if they kept Gibson or signed Corbin (pipe dream, he's going to a huge market with a huge budget). But, I would be ok if they didn't do that, not thrilled, but ok.
  5. I'd also non-tender Grossman. He's replacement level, is out of minor league options, and won't be paid the minimum. His late season stats are tainted by them being September based....I'd just look at what he was worth over the last three years and move on. It's really about the lack of flexibility......he has no options left, and those that replace him might. (or, if they sign/trade for a really good player to DH/1B/RF, they don't need him.....). They aren't winning anything major next year, most likely....move on from mediocre veterans. Take chances on unknowns or add better players.
  6. We KNOW Wade has options and is younger, so he gives them a lot that Grossman doesn't, in terms of flexibility........and potential, but really it's about options. Gordon, Wade, Arreaz (sp?) for sure. Other than that, not sure it matters much.
  7. You want Gray, who is only signed for a year or two, but not Machado, who would be signed for 5-8 years? I'm not sure I understand that logic. Signing Machado isn't about just next year, or even 2020..... that said, I don't want a dirty player on this roster, so no to Manny.
  8. That's probably what I would do also.....as the alternative is a lot of work.....
  9. I'd have liked to see Kepler at 1B more this year, to see if he can do it....to know what might be a good or bad idea for this next year.... I probably try Rosario at 3B once or twice, to see if he can do it, at least in spring training, if not a lost season. If I am the Sox, I think I try Betts at 2B during the year, since they were planning to WIN, and could use him at 2B in an NL park. But I would have tried it in the spring first. Just as I'd play a backup more often in a lost season, to see what he has.....which I know is different, and still doesn't happen enough for my taste.
  10. Q: Is the handbook being update to reflect the new manager? Will it be updated for the new coaches? An idea....update it as they sign players, and add sections on what might happen next? That is about what you'd do in a blog post.....
  11. it's clearly, at least to me, implied that if they can't play the position, then they won't. NO ONE is saying sign 9 DH types that can't field. That's not flexibility.
  12. I had no idea they were playing last night! Glad they won.
  13. donde esta el bano......might want that one...
  14. I don't want to turn this into a Mauer thread.....so I'll bite my tongue. Sorry I started it, as this topic tends to take over threads.
  15. I also scored 1300, but that was so long ago that it might be different scoring? And, I don't speak a 2nd language. I'm terrible at them....my kids are bilingual though. Immersion programs are great....
  16. I heard the FO indicated they might want him back....now, maybe that is just being respectful...but they might want him back.....I'm hoping it is about respect, and not the other.
  17. I'll ask again....can we expect wins next year, or is it "too many sophomores"? I'm asking when we can expect wins, since we can't expect them this year.
  18. Apparently he wants mauer on the team. I'm already losing confidence. And potentially the FO does also. I just don't know why I should trust them at this point.
  19. wearingwhitesoxinboston 1:07 Thoughts on the Baldelli hire? Like Cora and Roberts, he was an average player with bench coaching but no managerial experience. Is this a copy-cat move by the Twins or was he the best option? I am skeptical. Keith Law 1:07 Cora had managerial experience. Ron 1:07 Thoughts o n the Baldelli hire? Sounds analytical, young, has coaching and instructing experience and worked in the front office. Bad hire, good hire or "Meh"? But hasn't managed. Keith Law 1:09 I discussed this on the BBTN podcast this morning - I know Rocco well, and think very highly of him. He's very bright and curious. He's more than just open to new ideas and will work well with the stats guys. I believe he'll be a good developmental manager. But as you said, he hasn't managed, and that's a negative regardless of who the candidate is. I hope he finds someone for his staff who has plenty of in-game experience and can help him learn that part of the game quickly; the track record of no-experience managers is poor.
  20. As for me, the FBI just left me a voicemail that I was about to be arrested. I just have to call them back.... Given that, seems like I should clean up my behavior.....
  21. Hey Brock....any stocks you like right now? As for the pick, seems to check the boxes. Who knows? We'll know a lot more in 18 months or so.
  22. What does any of that have to do with this coach? And, where did anyone here say Rose Bowl?
  23. Don't look at your stocks if you don't like price drops! But, if you have cash....NVIDIA is nearing its 52 week low (ouch for me!). Lots of great companies on sale this week! The market goes up, and it goes down, but over the history of the market, it goes up over long periods of time.......regardless of the ups and downs in any given day/week/month/year. Lots of good companies on sale right now. PS, glad I sold a few weeks ago to get enough money for a down payment and remodeling! I sold about 30% of my assets near peak. Lucky me.
  24. All these threads, and I still can't tell who you want as manager.....
  25. I think this is a hard question, given that I've never been in a clubhouse...... I think the most important factor is leadership, off the field leadership. These guys are together for more than half the year, and making sure that everyone is in the best possible mental state to succeed is key, imo. After that? I'd like someone that is open to new ideas, but has ideas of his/her own and will stand up for the ones that matter most to her. A willingness to play rookies, even if there is a vet around. Knowledge that players aren't done in terms of development when they come up, so put them in situations to help them succeed. Seth's list is great, btw.....
