  1. Boston, New York, Chicago, Detroit.... They seem to attract people.
  2. The Dodgers have all stars at third and short.... And other needs. I'm not sure what people expect at all. As for taking away good times, then judging players, zero Twins would pass that unreasonable test.
  3. There's no evidence they'll sign big time free agents either. This ownership has no interest in even trying right now. No idea why anyone thinks this is a possibility.
  4. I thought they were going to be contenders? Now they are going to be selling?
  5. I'm guessing one more relief pitcher, and out of the race by the ASB, and a sell off of pitchers.
  6. Still waiting for them to sign a great pitcher.....
  7. I don't care about value. I want great players. They can cut anyone they want, as one year deals are the definition of sunk costs. Does anyone other than one poster think this is a difference maker?
  8. Or an industry where employees can't switch companies for about ten years... Counting time in the minus minors. This is all part of the contract they agree to, and has nothing to do with accountability.
  9. Great pitcher, or see what the youth can actually do. That's my preference.
  10. I can't think of one reason they need an old player in AAA. Plenty of young players need time. They have three veterans already.
  11. Cano has more than earned his money. It was a lot of bad decisions around him that hurt. Also, Houston becoming awesome fast. And LA falling into Trout.
  12. Not adding players makes it a lot less likely they will be in it at the deadline. It's a self fulfilling prophecy.... When they sell off, they'll say they just weren't quite good enough....
  13. Well, the Twins aren't rebuilt yet according to most people and projections. So, we don't know how long this will take.
  14. I'm assuming the last relief pitchers they use this year will produce negative WAR, as they have nearly every year here, so we are looking at more than a 1 WAR gain. I'd like them to try to win. If they have other ways of doing that, great. But adding wins helps more than pocketing money, at least for fans. So, if they have another way, great! But treading water does nothing but use another year of control for this group up. So, if every idea I have is unreasonable, which it might be, what is your suggestion for actually winning? I'm not interested in another year or three of waiting. Other teams have rebuilt much, much, faster.
  15. Coincidentally, Harper and Machado are looking for thirty million.... On a serious note, I expect them to add one more inexpensive relief pitcher..... And end at 100 or so.
  16. I might have last year, but not for two years of control, no. Three or more years? Probably.
  17. Machado or Harper and one more relief pitcher puts them at around ninety wins, if you think they are at 83 or 84 right now. I agree, position players are more predictable. But, as we are seeing this year, needs and available talent don't always line up. It's why I am sceptical that waiting for everything to line up, then spend, will work. Because what if there is no difference matter at the position the twins need next year? Then what? Add talent. When you can. Wisely, but add it. Realmuto and Harper. Make it happen. Rosario or Kepler go to Miami, plus Gordon and any minor league pitcher other than whomever the twins like most. Then pay the money for Harper and a relief pitcher.
  18. Fair. Of course, others will say old players aren't the right place, nor are starting pitchers, nor any deal more than two or three years. That doesn't leave much....
  19. Of course, you have to pick the right ones. So, pocket the money? I don't get why fans love owners making money, but call players greedy.
  20. Given that every team is growing in value, and that in the last three decades no one has lost money on a sale, or had a hard time selling, and made huge proofs, the owners have plenty of money. Team values are rising faster than revenues or salaries..... No owner is going broke.
  21. Nope. They have zero contracts past then. Zero.
  22. What's the alternative you are suggesting? I must have misunderstood.
  23. Good post. What's the projected WAR for the AAA guys that would be on those teams instead of them?
  24. Given how they are picking up guys that were DFA by their previous team, and all but one is a bargain ... It looks like the same identity to me.
  25. Being cheap is always efficient. Not usually effective....
