  1. I'm all for them aiming at 4WAR players....those guys will cost in the 20MM per year range, maybe as low as 15MM per year. Corbin, who might produce that, will get around 25-30MM per year, I'd guess.
  2. Let's hope we stay this way somehow.....
  3. I'ts not his fault they didn't win.......to me, MVP is who would you rather have on your roster? Now, I get some people would rather have the hitter, I'm good with that.....but it's not his fault they didn't win games......he provided great value to that team, they did not take advantage of that value.
  4. that's assuming Buxton and Sano aren't any better than last year......in which case no plan works. Has any team ever picked up 7 players in FA that did 2 WAR in that year? Did they then have to do it again the following year, because they signed a bunch of 1 year deals? Where, exactly, would you fit 7 new players on this roster? Who goes under this plan?
  5. Agreed......it's kind of hard to believe how bad they've been, especially because we were led to believe they had great scouts (starting with their GM), and that their entire strategy was build from within.....
  6. How about signing a legit number 3 to more than a 1 year deal....that would be a huge step up.....not everyone here is saying they have to sing an "ace".....
  7. you completely whiffed on the point of that post.....
  8. "There won't be a baseball stadium at the Portland Schools headquarters site after all. The Portland Diamond Project has pulled its offer after learning that another community coalition has a plan for an affordable housing project there, and they didn't want to get in the way." from a short news blurb this am....
  9. I'm not sure the "community" is behind this......there are certainly people here that are. And, 1993 is ancient history for this town. It couldn't be more different. Heck, 2010 is. Portland is one of the fastest growing cities around, and had the 2nd most cranes in use in the US earlier this year....so, nothing is "proven", imo.
  10. That award exists.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hank_Aaron_Award
  11. Leaders should always have smarter people working for them.......
  12. DeGromm should be the clear winner. The best season by a player in the NL.
  13. I can't see how Portland works either.....just not enough big companies here to buy boxes. Not close. Some people in the suburbs are too afraid of the city to even drive in it, let alone go there as a destination..... Montreal makes the most sense, imo. Add Vancouver, and suddenly you get a national Canada tv deal? The article, imo, really points out the issue, and that's splitting the money up, and why I wouldn't vote yes if I was a current owner....
  14. Up above I may have inadvertently stated the Americans has 7 seasons. Which made watching the end of the show fascinating, since we thought there was another year. It was clear they were wrapping up in season 6.... anyway, awesome show. I thought they skipped over too much of the differences between philip and elizabeth, and just made her a caricature of herself.....but it was a great series. Here's hoping there is movie someday.....
  15. Good list. I'd probably make some changes, but they players I'd move around are pretty bunched up. I just want Kiriloff to start in AA, same with Lewis. Let's see what they have, and move them aggressively like other prospects have been across the league. I agree with the poster above that Gonsalves is over rated, and is more likely a stacking/RP type than a starter.
  16. It's almost like, I don't know, thought experiments aren't allowed on a website where fans are sitting around a virtual bar shooting the breeze* about sports......... *family friendly substitution....
  17. It's not a super realistic plan, but then IT WAS CLEAR in the intro that it was meant as a FUN exercise...... I'd not sign Grossman under this plan (any plan), thereby making the budget total somewhat more realistic........he just doesn't offer much to this roster. Teams with bad OBP up and down the roster do not benefit from adding one good OB player, they benefit more from adding more power.....plus, he just isn't all that good at much of anything other than hitting a few singles and walking. I'd replace him with Astudillo, who can catch or play 1B or DH about like Grossman. The following year, one or more of Gibson and Pineda is replaced by a $.5 MM player, making the following year more realistic also, if anyone is actually worried about that in a thread that is about dreaming for fun. Oh, and the 3B needs to be replaced. IF Marwin can legit play 3B, you maybe put him there, and not spend on a 1 year deal....and put Kepler or Wade or Kiriloff in RF (yes, you can actually promote players from AA, but I'd think he is possibly ready by June.....)
  18. Nice! I rarely literally laugh out loud....of course, I didn't this time either, but I did make a laugh like sound....
  19. There is real talent on the team...agreed. It needs to manifest itself better. And, I figured we agreed on that, btw.
  20. People seem to have forgotten Eddie's 2nd half fall off. His hitting was actually slightly worse this year than last..... I'm not criticizing him, btw.....but people really seem to have forgotten. He was league median among LF in terms of offense. Which is fine, btw.....he's a good, if not great, player.
  21. decades* ago...... *well, in how baseball has changed. The rules have changed, who gets protected has, etc......
  22. Worst idea ever. Nothing is accomplished by this plan, short or long term. I will be disappointed if this is the outcome.
  23. What matters is speed and reads and arm strength. Handedness is over rated so much....IMO, of course.
  24. I'm not sure why we'd plan on them not doing so....At some point, the team needs to trust its processes (or drastically change them, which this FO is). Your other option is to pretty much quit, really.
