  1. They need to find three or four starting pitchers next off season.... Given their fiscal restraint, would you rather downgrade first, or spend less on pitching? They will likely need relief pitching also.
  2. It's like margin of error doesn't exist all of a sudden.... But let's set aside if he's replacement level, or close... He's not good. He's ok. Which was the actual point of the post that started this tangent. I hope the find someone better, or much cheaper so they upgrade someplace else.
  3. Actually, one fWAR is replacement level, unless you think it is that precise over a full year..... As for his defense, that is what people said about Mauer. First base defense is just not that hard to find.
  4. Yes. That whole series is just hot takes.... Even though he often says teams have guys coming on, so they aren't really a problem...
  5. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-2019-replacement-level-killers-first-base/
  6. They've also cut salary, even after signing players to extensions. But, I do believe they will add players this week. We'll see
  7. Of course they can afford him. It's a choice. But I'd bet they don't acquire him.
  8. I hope they find someone better than Cron next year. He's been replacement level.
  9. This is good news. The front office thinks he's ready for AA. That's a bit surprising, but good.
  10. I like this a lot more than when it was first announced, and it was only Romo coming back. It's a fine, not exciting, idea to trade minor league depth for an ok RP and a minor league pitcher. Just do two more things....
  11. People like Romo to help this team? Because they need to help this team, not just the future.
  12. Then I do it for sure. A corner OF and an often injured minor league pitcher? Do it. If they won't do this, what will they do?
  13. The only negative is that stroman is a free agent, right? That might be a reason not to.... That I can understand.
  14. If they can get a controllable starter, they should. Sixty percent of the rotation will be free agents, and does anyone trust the fourth guy all that much beyond this year? They are below last year's budget. The fans are showing up. If not now, when?
  15. Congrats on the growth! It's a great place for me to talk baseball....
  16. As a short stop......97 wrc+ in the majors is median for a SS. And for a 2B. Not saying he could do that, but if he stayed around 95, he'd be median to just worse than that for a SS, and median for a 2B (SS are hitting better than 2B this year).
  17. Of course, that's not the definition either. Maybe we should skip politics in these threads...
  18. As am I. But AAA depth is handy. Or a utility guy you like. Which they have.....
  19. I am a fan, generally, of how he's managing the pen. I'm concerned about Rogers usage level, but he was warming at 3-2. I doubt he pitches today....
  20. Remember when entire said they could trade Gordon, because Lewis and Javier were locks to be here in the next year or two? Good times. I'd be careful dealing Gordon at this point. I'd do it for the right player, but I'd be careful.
