Game Recap: White Sox 13, Twins 3
Mike Sixel replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What do people want the owner to do or say? Really? Do people care what an owner says? I care if he funds the team and hires the right front office. Other than that, I like them invisible. I won't miss shoemaker. Bad decision from the start. -

Front Office Facing Pitching Problems
Mike Sixel replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm still waiting for any evidence they can identify and develop legit pitching. So far, their track record is awful. Truly awful. Not even a legit RP so far.- 42 replies

No they don't. Also, the other side of the coin.... People sometimes think not trading off good players means success. Which clearly is not always true. Not one person is guaranteeing success. What some are saying is there isn't enough here to succeed next year either, and positing ways forward. Some think the team can sign two great players, some don't think those players will stay here. Hence the disagreement.

Do the Twins Have a Self-Scouting Issue?
Mike Sixel replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The only one of those that didn't make sense at the time is Nick Anderson. That was baffling. Baddoo? An A ball player with years of injuries? Someone thought a MLB team would keep him on their roster all year? Celestino isn't ready for the majors, but without multiple injuries, he wouldn't be. Way too early to say he's a dud.... I didn't get the Cave/Wade decision, but it is defensible.- 37 replies

And to quote myself and stay on topic.....if you want to get some top prospects, you need to trade players like Berrios. Can you get lucky and get a valuable player by trading a less valued player? Of course you can. I'd only deal Berrios if I felt I couldn't sign him. If I felt there was a realistic chance to sign him, I'd do that......though I don't know their budget or what he wants....

The MLB draft is the least precise of the sports' drafts. It isn't particularly likely that there is much difference in feeling between about 20+ players at the point the Twins pick. People here won't deal prospects for pitchers (not great prospects, certainly not what is required for really good pitchers with multiple years of control, which are rarely traded). The Twins won't sign the highest paid pitchers. Where do people expect to get pitchers if they keep passing on them in early rounds (and don't say "so and so was an 8th round pick"....those are rarities. The value of picks is well established from decades of drafting.....)?

Marcus Stroman was traded for a AAA starter and high A starter (i.e., one of the pitchers above!)......the Twins should expect a similar return for Berrios. They were numbers 4 and 6 (give or take) in the Mets' system when dealt. Fangraphs had a 45+ FV on SWR at the time of the deal..... I think SWR is advanced beyond that now (50FV this year, and in a higher league)....I'm guessing IF they would deal him, you'd get SWR and something around what is projected above....but I don't know if TOR would deal him at this point. IF they Twins don't think they can sign him, it would be a decent-good deal, not one to blow you out of the water, but likely fair.

I'd like to see no corner OF / 1B in round 1-3........But yes, my preference is SS and pitching.

Only 2 teams in the AL have less wins....and people think they are in this? I hope the FO isn't thinking that way. There are zero, zero, starting pitchers in AAA that look like legit MLB starters. They have Berrios for 1 year. They have Ober (a back-end starter), and who? They have Buxton for 1 more year. They have no starting SS next year. Before anyone says "look at AA".......unless those guys get multiple starts in MLB this year, they won't be starting on day 1 in MN next year....And even then, they might have 1-2, might, starters (given the odds of any working out). 2023 is the next most likely good year....so go get some top ceiling pitching prospects.

It’s Time to Pay Byron Buxton
Mike Sixel replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
mike sixel 3:30 I'd think Buxton isn't signing any kind of deal until he is healthy next year, at which point the Twins probably won't pay him what he wants.....what do you do with Buxton? I know you said you can't trade him for value.....but you also can't sign him long term (as he'll want to be paid like an elite player).... Ben Clemens 3:31 I think I'd just let him play out the string, if he mashes great, and keep trying to convince him to stay If he's the MVP (or something near that) next year, you got your value If not, well, you probably still got as much value as you could have traded him for It's always nice to perpetual-motion-machine it like the Rays, but it's not always possible -
Could the Twins Trade Luis Arraez?
Mike Sixel replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm fascinated by all the posts saying how valuable he is, but that the Twins wouldn't get value for him......Like, isn't what you'd get back 100% the measure of how valuable he is? In any event, I don't think there is ANY chance they deal him. More likely they deal Gordon as a throw in with another player, who goes onto have real value to a team that will actually play him (like, I don't know, a team whose CF is hurt and the prospect they have up can't hit MLB pitching yet......). -
Which other teams have successfully replicated Tampa's success? I think that's the point some are making....it is hubris to assume the Twins can, when no one else has. Sure, use a lot of what Tampa uses, but to assume you can replicate it when no one else can seems like a bad idea. I mean, why can't every golfer just use the same process as Phil Mickelson and win as much as him? Process alone is not enough to be successful. But then, you know that. At least I think that is what people are trying to say, at least that's how I read what they are saying.

Game Recap: Cleveland 4, Twins 1
Mike Sixel replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm too lazy to look at much more than wRC+.....I know given my posting volume that might be hard to believe......but that stats enough for me 90% of the time. If the Twins were to trade for someone, I'd probably look at what makes that up some..... -

Mike Sixel replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We agree on that....I'm pushing back on the "RBI are a measure of how good a hitter he is".... To BE CLEAR.....no one is saying RBI don't matter. No one. Not one person. What some are saying is the RBI are a function of the other hitters around you, and opportunity......and that if you want to know how good a hitter someone is, you should look at other things. I remember people saying Mauer wasn't a good hitter because he didn't have enough RBI....when you looked at the stats, he actually hit BETTER with people on base than the bases empty, but he didn't have many opportunities given where he hit in the order, and the hitters in front of him...... No one is saying RBI don't matter. People are saying something totally different than that..... None of that is aimed at MLR......btw. He and I agree on this, though I guess that would be hard to tell sometimes -

Not everyone here will admit they might be wrong....I was just making sure no one thought I was some kind of MLB contract expert.... -

I think he's going to want 4/100.....as a guarantee, and the ability to sign another deal.....maybe as low as 3/70......but that is a total guess.....compare him to Donaldson..... If he played half a year at 1/4th this year's pace, he'd put up 4 fWAR.....what is that worth? If you play a guy like Kepler the other half, and he puts up 1-2 as your CF? I'd guess a lot.... But, sure I could be wrong.....I freely admit that. -

Who would Eddie be driving in, on this team? I mean....he's on pace for 100 because he hits in the prime RBI spot for a good hitting team....not because he's a better hitter than those two.
