  1. Right, I always forget him for some reason.
  2. I agree that signing more than one number 4 type is a huge blunder. But maybe 1..... The key is signing a legit FA or trading for one. If they are lucky and Ober is this good, they sign a legit FA #2 type, and one guy is a 2 or 3 and they have a bunch of 3/4/5 types, the starters are ok. Not great, but ok to good. Maybe good enough to trade for a short term rental at the deadline. But, it all depends on Ober/Ryan being ready day 1, one of them being a 3 or better, and getting a legit #2 type in FA/trade (and, preferably one more #3/4 type). But, it seems a LONG SHOT, and it might, might, be better to just get 1 legit veteran, and give all the young guys try outs and experience. I was for trading for Means, but man, he has struggled in the 2nd half.
  3. Someone has to pitch.. the minors are filled with fringe players.....
  4. I always viewed him as the bonus part of the trade.
  5. To be clear, what year did the Sox sign that many expensive players? What year did any team?
  6. Ober. and Um.....hmmmmm. no other starter right now? In the bullpen, Duffey, Gant, and Taylor Rogers. Most likely Jax or Dobnak in relief / AAA. Alcala in AAA to start the year. After that? Anyone's guess.
  7. They should have traded Kepler while they were winning divisions? They should not have traded prospects when they were winning divisions? They should have magically only traded bad prospects for good players?
  8. They have a ton of minor league depth. I expect a trade for a decent to good starter. I expect a good free agent. And Ober. After that? Well, Ryan should be up getting his feet wet...... Mostly it will have to be extreme good luck for next year to work.
  9. So, if doctors think they should try something OTHER THAN CUTTING INTO THEIR BODY, they shouldn't?
  10. What he does the rest of the year is pretty irrelevant to his future. Front offices have made up their mind, one way or the other, at this point. I'd sign him. I'd roll that die. If they do deal him, they better get more than Berrios brought back.
  11. This is a thread about a game they won, right?
  12. It looks pretty bleak right now. If Maeda is out, they have zero, zero, experienced pitchers under contract. I didn't know that was even possible. Ober and no one else is a lock right now? They really need to acquire two good SP in the off season. Then hope on Ober and um, hmmmmm. I got no idea how this works at this point.
  13. There are multiple threads and comments (some repeated over and over and over and over and over......) about multiple fringe players and their "success" outside of MN......Like, they'd have to cut about 10 players from the current roster to hold them all (imagine doing that at the start of the year)...... I have no issue with reasoned discussions about failures, but this is a ridiculous example, imo. As are many of the second guesses here. I get it, the season has sucked. But the anger and mean comments (not in this OP, btw) and repetition is tedious at best (and a massive turn off from joining in for many former long time posters).
  14. Fewer than 5 is actually pretty hard.....all but 5 teams are averaging more than 4 per game, and two are a rounding error from there.....5 seems to be the magic number, which is unreal, really.
  15. Do we really think the FO thinks differently? Those two were 8/9/10 on the depth chart to start the year......(actually, I think you are saying this, just making sure). The year has gone as badly as possible with SP this year, between injuries (Pineda, Maeda, Dobnak, Winder), and trades (Berrios) and ineffectiveness (Happ, Shoemaker) that this is what is left. As for leaving him in, this is part of learning.... As for Kepler and Rooker hitting near the top (not your point).....I'm guessing they are trying to give them every AB possible, to see if they can get out of their funks. Nothing more or less than that.
  16. If the Twins kept every player on the 40 man this site whines about, they'd have around 100000 players on their roster at this point.
  17. The second guessing on this site is unreal. He bounced all over!
  18. If they put him in LF, just spot the other team a few doubles, I guess? No more playing guys out of position, please.
  19. How is getting HBP related to anything else?
  20. Gant should never start another game. He's a RP. They should use him as such.
  21. I think Martin is the starting LF by June/July of next year. CF is Buxton is dealt.
