  1. Trading stars for many players didn't always work..... But Pittsburgh is terrible with little depth. I'd consider it if them, given they'll never play in the deep end of free agency.
  2. Starts with Lewis or Lee or Pittsburgh hangs up. Whether that is right or not.
  3. Perfect player for here, as he can play center when Buxton is out
  4. I also like the purpose. I wish they'd make A LOT more players eligible, frankly.
  5. I don't think people look at other catchers statistics at all when commenting on Jeffers' relative value. Nor do they look at the stats posted here and how many more or less SBs he (and the pitchers) give up in a year relative to other teams. Not even a little. Nor how valuable a steal is. He's also 25 and didn't play much in the minors. I really think people are wrong in their lack of patience here. That said, I'd like a much better compliment to him than what they are likely to have. This is nowhere near their biggest issue for next year. SS is, and it isn't close. Then backup CF, since Buxton will play 100 games if the team is lucky.
  6. The Twins have started AK in the OF every year so far, haven't they? I get we all think he's a 1B, and maybe last year it was because Sano was at first, but I don't know.... Gordon should start against righties. He's a legit corner OF (or CF when Buxton is hurt). He's no all star, but he's a starter. I don't care if they keep Kepler or not. Larnach is really not understood on this site, when it comes to D. Teams gave up running on him completely last year (as someone above noted). If he's healthy, he's a legit starter. I believe Wallner is also a legit player (and I didn't think that going into last year). If I had my choice, it would be Larnach, Buxton, Wallner as the starters. Gordon as the backup who plays a lot. Then, I guess Garlick to PH in games or start against lefties at times. That leaves the rest in AAA (where I think Celestino needs some time). I would not be opposed to signing a corner OF that can play some CF and dealing some of the ones the Twins have for pitching or catching. If they sign a top 4 SS, Lewis should be in LF or CF long term, since I see Lee as the long term 3B (in the world where they sign a legit SS this year). One of the best prospects in this system is also likely a corner OF in a couple years......
  7. The rules were changed years ago, and it just isn't as important as it was back in the day. So much virtual ink spilled on this, given its actual impact in today's game. As for the comments on the FO, well, never mind.
  8. It truly amazes me when we see posts like the one you quoted. Players go where the money and opportunity are. Some choose based on city, sure. But if you offer people money and opportunity, they'll come. I mean, it happens all the time in sports.
  9. Almost none of them were viewed as studs outside Twins' land...... I don't understand why we conflate pre-this FO with the current FO. They have Ryan who they have for his entire time in the majors. They likely have Ober and Varland and SWR. Are any of those aces? Not likely, but they might be near Berrios level at times. That doesn't count Winder (who most outsiders viewed as a good RP most likely). It doesn't count Enlow (injuries happen). They have passed on pitchers in round one most of the time. I don't love that, but it tends to make it harder to develop aces (not impossible).
  10. I'm betting on Wallner to be the best rookie over the longest time next year. Lewis will play about half a year next year, meaning he doesn't get enough time as a rookie to win. I do think one of Varland or SWR will be in the rotation early....so they have a chance.
  11. Your ability to state what everyone who is a "stathead" states is lost on those that say people say RBI aren't important. The distinction between RBI and whether RBI is a good predictor / indicator of who hits better when it matters is lost on some people, no matter how many times you type it. That was my point.
  12. Zero people say RBI aren't important. Zero. And no, despite your thought, it is not part of the orthodoxy that they aren't important. Not even close. Not even remotely close.
  13. Well then. Guess MN isn't getting him. Hopefully they find a RH that is good in free agency or trade....
  14. Zero people say this, yet you keep arguing against it. I would be good with signing him, he's a good RH hitter. Which they really need when Buxton gets hurt.
  15. To be clear, you'll go with a lineup of all stars and the best hitters in the game? I'm not sure how this is an argument for RBI.
  16. How many teams close to the playoffs that didn't acquire a great pitcher went on to be a great team in the next year or two? What's the risk of not getting great pitching? These articles never talk about the risk of sitting pat.
  17. I think the plan is to sign a great SS. It may not happen, though. They 100% need a backup SS. They have one now. I'm not the biggest Lewis fan on this site, so I have my doubts....he's less healthy than Buxton, and won't be ready until June or July. So, I really hope they sign a great SS and move Lewis to the OF full time. Anyway, I think the plan is B, maybe C. But that they might end up at A because it takes two to tango and they might be left standing on the side of the dancefloor watching..... And, I'm a huge believer in Martin, but as a 2B, LF, or CF....not a SS. Lee? I think he's the long term 3B for this team, unless Miranda can pick it and hit it consistently.
  18. No one is basing their ticket buying on this move.
  19. The risk is he's bad and they don't move on, not the money. You know, like not moving on after three years. It's the opportunity cost.
  20. I said also ... Clearly they did other things, but those weren't the only things. I guess somehow I wasn't clear about that.
  21. They also upgraded the minor league system, and got rid of a minor league player that needed to be on the 40 man, for a better one that doesn't.
