  1. I'm betting on Wallner to be the best rookie over the longest time next year. Lewis will play about half a year next year, meaning he doesn't get enough time as a rookie to win. I do think one of Varland or SWR will be in the rotation early....so they have a chance.
  2. Your ability to state what everyone who is a "stathead" states is lost on those that say people say RBI aren't important. The distinction between RBI and whether RBI is a good predictor / indicator of who hits better when it matters is lost on some people, no matter how many times you type it. That was my point.
  3. Zero people say RBI aren't important. Zero. And no, despite your thought, it is not part of the orthodoxy that they aren't important. Not even close. Not even remotely close.
  4. Well then. Guess MN isn't getting him. Hopefully they find a RH that is good in free agency or trade....
  5. Zero people say this, yet you keep arguing against it. I would be good with signing him, he's a good RH hitter. Which they really need when Buxton gets hurt.
  6. To be clear, you'll go with a lineup of all stars and the best hitters in the game? I'm not sure how this is an argument for RBI.
  7. How many teams close to the playoffs that didn't acquire a great pitcher went on to be a great team in the next year or two? What's the risk of not getting great pitching? These articles never talk about the risk of sitting pat.
  8. I think the plan is to sign a great SS. It may not happen, though. They 100% need a backup SS. They have one now. I'm not the biggest Lewis fan on this site, so I have my doubts....he's less healthy than Buxton, and won't be ready until June or July. So, I really hope they sign a great SS and move Lewis to the OF full time. Anyway, I think the plan is B, maybe C. But that they might end up at A because it takes two to tango and they might be left standing on the side of the dancefloor watching..... And, I'm a huge believer in Martin, but as a 2B, LF, or CF....not a SS. Lee? I think he's the long term 3B for this team, unless Miranda can pick it and hit it consistently.
  9. No one is basing their ticket buying on this move.
  10. The risk is he's bad and they don't move on, not the money. You know, like not moving on after three years. It's the opportunity cost.
  11. I said also ... Clearly they did other things, but those weren't the only things. I guess somehow I wasn't clear about that.
  12. They also upgraded the minor league system, and got rid of a minor league player that needed to be on the 40 man, for a better one that doesn't.
  13. Urshela only cost money and was already here....I wasn't sure they should, and they didn't. I assumed that meant Miranda at third. Now? I'm not sure. Because I have no interest in Miranda being the primary DH.
  14. If Miranda isn't at third, he's no DH......and Arraez is at first, I assume.
  15. 5.9 million is a lot of insurance.....(If I read that right).
  16. Not sure how I feel about this yet....he played 98 games at SS, are they not signing a SS? Seems pricey just to be a utility guy.
  17. Rebuild? The guy was signed for 1 more year, and they have Miranda, Lewis, and Lee available for third, maybe Arraez. What says rebuild about this at all? On what planet is there even a rumor of Polanco going?
  18. Same. I'd be thrilled with a highly random outcome player in return (put Wallner in RF at this point, or Larnach).
  19. I did wonder yesterday about keeping him, given Miranda and Lee and Lewis......getting a pitcher that won't be on the 40 man for awhile makes sense (IF THEY SPEND THE MONEY).
  20. That's partly related to the position they played. And the number of games. But I agree, urshela is a better player. The question is ... What can they do with the saved money, is the difference that big, can Lee be the third baseman next year at some point if they have a shortstop? I don't know the answer to any of that, especially what they plan to do in free agency.
