  1. Here's the thing....meltdowns that produce a 50% increase in your team losing are MUCH MORE costly than 5 appearances where you increase the odds of your team winning by 10%. Every game player appearances move the needle 5-10% up and down.....and your teammates can do the same. It takes an accumulation of such events to win or lose a game. But changing the likelihood of winning by 50%? That's hard to over come, positively or negatively. That's the issue here. Any mediocre RP can come in and move the needle up and down by 10% every game. Only a handful can do this, year after year, and still have a job.
  2. Still have no idea why Julien never played 1B in the minors. He's not a good fielder if he has to move....we've seen that. And, AK can play RF, maybe even LF. Oh well, I've given up hope they move on from Kepler, and believe this is ANOTHER wasted year due to the FO not building a complete team.
  3. If he can move to a corner, then sure, it is worth a shot. But if not, he's basically Julien....and as we're seeing, it is hard to find space for a guy like that. Hard, not impossible.....
  4. Who's trading for Cousins? I mean, I'd blow it up also, but if you squint you can see a legit team.
  5. good points. I'm not sure most of that matters, but we can disagree on that. As you say, he does have control over those things, unlike the fact his supposed best players are playing at replacement level, give or take.
  6. That might, might, nibble at the edges.....but until Buxton and CC and Polanco hit and they FO ditches Kepler, that's not enough.
  7. Jeffers has the 9th most fWAR among all catchers in baseball.....so, I think you may be underselling him some....He should be playing more. He's hitting 45% better than the average MLB hitter (all of them, not catchers). Overall, I agree. No idea what anyone wants Rocco to do given the outcomes these hitters are producing right now.
  8. ? Did I correct you? No idea....I was just commenting that I feel bad for the guy. Clearly a legit MLB player, if he can get healthy.
  9. Fair. I agree that not making outs is the number one ability of a hitter.
  10. Using the phrase nerds to describe the use of math is the opposite of anti intellectualism? Pravda!
  11. Detroit can't hit, and Miami couldn't when Rowson was there....maybe its the players.
  12. I liked the Buxton, Vazquez, and CC signings, and they've all be awful. Just, awful. Look, something is clearly wrong. First part of the fix is getting rid of Kepler. I have NO IDEA if Wallner is a good MLB player, but we know Kepler isn't. Second, Jeffers needs to play 2/3 of the time until he stops hitting. This FO couldn't build a pitching staff the last two years, now they can't hit. My concern is the lack of player development at the hitting positions. Jeffers is it (likely Lewis and AK, but even three players isn't enough after this much time). They seem unwilling to change their ways. They signed Gallo and kept Kepler and traded for Taylor for depth, and now REFUSE to use that depth with Kepler being terrible (again). They refuse to IL guys when they first get hurt, leading to no bench in multiple games. They love Garlick, even though they are HEAVILY RH overall.....I know, sorry, off topic some....
  13. This hasn't aged well at all.....I'm on the fire the FO bandwagon at this point. Jeffers is the only hitter / fielder drafted and developed in 6 years. That's it. Or even traded for, at this point. That's kind of astounding, even by accident you'd think you could luck into more than 1 hitter in 6 years.
  14. I think this is a reasonable take, that I just disagree with, which is cool with me.
  15. I'd move both of those if I could at this point. If Buck is only a DH, I'm ready to move on completely. CC? I don't know....but that foot might be the issue here.
  16. We'll not agree on that first sentence at all. It's not HAWT take to say that at all. I think the plan was to put him in the CF or LF .... once they had CC. But he doesn't want that, and I can understand making him comfortable.
  17. As for Polanco.....they aren't winning with this team, IMO. I'm in blow it up mode, and he has real value, hopefully. Varland, Ober, Lopez, Ryan is a good staff for several years. They need to fix the hitting across the team, and I'm more interested in next year and the following years at this point. Again, nothing REALLY MATTERS unless Buck and CC hit.
  18. Yes, they need to stop playing with a short bench. Either trust the prospects as replacements, or you need to question if you should have your job....
