    They should be offering Jeffers a contract extension. They can afford to pay him $15M a season for 2027 and 2028. Of course, they should have offered him an extension last offseason and the one before that as well.

    I will add, it's especially true if you don't offer contract extensions to your internally drafted and developed talent. Players take a season or two to get established and when they're finally good it's time to trade them for the next round because they're getting expensive in arbitration and losing seasons of team control. Somehow they have to line up all of their draftees and trade acquisitions in a 2-year window where the roster is both talented and cheap at the same time. If you give Falvey 30 years he might be able to do that once.

    They shouldn't bring back France. They should find someone else to turn into the next American League Gold Glove winner. Buxton was not snubbed. Rafaela was crazy good, an Andruw Jones caliber season.

    DeBarge is a low average hitter without much power. He can hit doubles and stretch a few into triples with his speed. He needs to hit about .277 instead of .237.

    The Twins somehow developed Ty France into the American League gold glove winner at first base.

    I was actually pleasantly surprised by Pereda - decent hitter and decent thrower. He couldn't hold onto the ball which seems like it is necessary for a catcher. Victor Caratini would be a good addition. I think Joey Bart is gettable in trade. I doubt the Dodgers will keep Ben Rortvedt.

    $5M? He's almost certain to be worse next year than he was this year and he was bad this year. $5M is what you pay a catcher who has positive value.

    They really don’t. MN has about $325M in revenue and St Louis is $375M. They’re both midmarket teams like Arizona and Detroit.

    I would not sign Vazquez for more than $1M and only after the other options are exhausted.

    That’s the 1-year contract tier. Above that is a multiyear deal. I would rather see them offer contract extensions to their own players. It’s a better value.

    Why would that make the franchise more attractive? Do you strip your house down to the studs to sell it?

    A steady job and a promised trade to a contender if the team is out of the running will attract veteran players. Do you think Bader is upset with how last year went?

    Looks like Kody Clemens will fall short of Super-Two status and not qualify for arbitration.

    Do we know that Shelton was the front office's first choice? Did other candidates turn them down after the interview? I've certainly backed out from joining organizations after I've had a chance to meet the people in charge face to face.

    Rutschman is a better defender than Vazquez or Jeffers. He's a better defender than pretty much all of the available free agents.

    They are betting a big portion of their future on developing young pitching. Punting the catcher position is a really bad idea in that context. Play good defense behind young pitchers.

    I want to know if Pete Maki is staying. He has actually been able to transition the young talent to the major leagues and I'd like him to stay.

    That's not a flaw, that's how trade values work. Older, more expensive and less team control is worth less than younger, cheaper and more team control.

    The biggest problem with this hire is Falvey doubling down on the same process that led to these results in the first place. "Trust the process" that has led to one of the worst teams in baseball.
