  1. No Twins last night so I watched the Saints game. Eeles is still fun to watch. He puts the ball in play well and runs well. He clearly doesn't have the arm to play CF in the big leagues. He's 2B/LF and emergency SS if he's in the majors. Lewis is very over the top, which makes his fastball kind of flat. He had a few good knucklers that the catcher couldn't even handle. I wonder if his knuckler would be more effective if it was a little slower. It has action more like a palm-ball. Baker had a totally different arm angle - he throws more sidearm than 3/4 - but not much better results. Julien is the same passive batter, watching a not-very-close pitch for strike three with a full count and runners on second and third with two out. Sabato has continued his good season at AAA. That HR was a no-doubter. Gwinnett has an odd ballpark - surrounded by apartment buildings. It feels like you're in the commons in the university dorms.
  2. The marching bands and youth choirs will have to purchase a ticket for the game to participate but will receive a coupon for 10% off one item at concessions.
  3. They are 12th in the AL in attendance (785000). Two AL teams are playing in minor league parks this summer. The other team behind the Twins is the White Sox. The Rockies and Brewers draw nearly 9000 more people per game.
  4. Glen Perkins had some interesting thoughts on Funderburk. He has good stuff, but was having trouble throwing strikes. They moved him more toward the 3B side of the rubber and he's been able to pitch in the zone instead of pitching across his body and missing.
  5. As you said, every team can fit Willi Castro onto their roster and improve their lineup. They can easily fit his remaining $3M salary into their payroll. The Twins should be able to create a bidding war.
  6. They could have DFA Keirsey or Diego Cartaya as well. I was listening to the radio on the way home while sitting in the wonderful "going up north" traffic. Apparently the Marlins were able to teach Henriquez how to throw a sweeper. Perkins said the Twins tried "multiple times" to teach him that pitch but were unsuccessful.
  7. Then Jenkins isn't nearly as good of a prospect as has been hyped and Rodriguez isn't a prospect at all.
  8. No, their offense is awful and their defense is below average. The good news is Keaschall, Rodriguez, Jenkins and Culpepper all seem to be able to play defense. The Pablo Lopez injury was a huge loss. Are you betting that he'll be injured and unable to pitch again next season?
  9. Castro, Paddack, Coulombe and Stewart should each return a prospect that would be in the 5-20 range for the Twins. They're guys who can help a contending team. I expect a bidding war for Castro because he can fill a hole for just about every team in contention. Bader, Topa and France can bolster the bench for a contender and will return a 40 FV prospect. They're probably stuck with Vazquez. The Twins have talent that isn't far off. Keaschall had a promising debut. Rodriguez, Culpepper, Gonzalez, Prielipp and Jenkins could be contributing next season. They still have 6 starting pitchers worth a spot (Ryan, Lopez, Ober, Matthews, Festa, Woods-Richardson) and four solid relievers (Duran, Jax, Varland, Sands). If that isn't enough to build on, then they'll never have enough.
  10. I don't see a sense of urgency that they must trade Duran now. He has two more years of team control after this season. They can trade him in the offseason, next summer's trade deadline or next offseason. The only reason to trade him now is if a team offers a really great prospect package - better than they received for Jose Berrios.
  11. I don't think this team needs a massive rebuild. They have a talented group of pitchers and that's the hardest thing to assemble. They should trade a) impending free agents b) players in their mid to late 30s who aren't free agents That translates to a) Castro, Paddack, Coulombe, Bader, France, & Vazquez (in roughly that order for trade value) b) Brock Stewart and Justin Topa Trading 8 players off the 26-man roster is a lot. It will open up more spots than they have players deserving of taking those spots (especially in the bullpen). It will bring in perhaps a dozen prospects of varying quality into the system. If they want to do a roster overhaul, the best time to do that is in the offseason. I'd rather they keep Duran and give him a contract extension. If they don't trade him this year, they will have the opportunity again next year. I don't think Correa would agree to a trade. If he would agree to move to the Yankees, I'd pursue it.
  12. Extensions of players who are impending free agents are very rare. Those players will go to free agency and test the market. If the Twins want to bring them back, they will have their chance during the offseason. In the meantime, the only value they have for the franchise is as a trade chit.
  13. This is the most likely scenario, though it does nothing for this year or the future.
  14. I think he'll suck, but they might as well give him a start. Then if he earns his way back and the game actually matters he won't be starstruck.
  15. Freely available: Jake Woodford Are they going to give the start to Wentz?
  16. On the plus side, Joe Ryan still looks like a deserving All-Star. I hope he and Buxton have a great time in Atlanta.
