  1. Lewis and Keaschall have shown flashes of potential. Jeffers is good enough to be the starting catcher on a playoff team.
  2. You can hire a hundred coaches, but Brooks Lee will still be slow with limited range.
  3. Lee/Keaschall has a below-average defensive ceiling for a middle infield combo.
  4. Lee is a below average middle-infield defender. Hudson and Castillo played 2B, not SS. I'd take Cristian Guzman over Lee.
  5. There's nothing wrong with being a utility player. If Winokur can be the next Willi Castro he'll be quite valuable. Is Oneil Cruz a good comp? He's 6'7" and has played SS, 3B and the outfield.
  6. He might end his career in the bullpen for that reason.
  7. I don’t think the Twins have ever designated a player as captain.
  8. He's young enough that you can still project him to a .720 OPS in the majors (league average). With his defensive tools he could be useful even if the bat never develops more than that. Max Kepler got paid $10M to be that player.
  9. At $4.6M they have to tender him a contract. That's a fair price for an experienced reliever and a bargain for a starting pitcher. Someone in this rotation is getting traded during the offseason. A rotation of Ryan, Lopez, Ober, SWR (no options), and Bradley (no options) keeps both Abel and Matthews in St. Paul. Both of those pitchers need major league innings to develop, they're done with AAA. If they keep Ryan and Lopez, then Ober needs to go. If they trade Ryan, then Ober will probably keep his spot until at least July and the Twins will hope he has a bounceback season so they can trade him at the deadline. However, if another team values Ober like this: then we could see both Ryan and Ober dealt.
  10. He hits like a utility player. Probably a good idea to develop him at several positions so he can fill that role.
  11. That is probably correct. I will note that I don't remember Joe Ryan ever rating as a top-100 prospect. They should still get more for Ryan than they did for Duran.
  12. He loses value because you get less time from him. His value is maxed out - about $65M a season. Anyone who trades for Skubal gets one season at $18M salary and a potential draft pick if they don't extend his contract. All you're seeing in the "lost" value is that one season of Skubal is worth less than two seasons of Skubal. His value will go down even more between now and the trade deadline because you'll only get a half-season in return.
  13. I don't think Gladden would take a job where he has to be sober.
  14. Another reason for the Twins to try to compete in 2026 and 2027.
  15. Out of this group, without ever having met any of them, I'll take Vazquez. At best, Shelton is just okay. Punto lacks experience. Rowson has a pretty good reputation throughout baseball.
  16. It's really not okay for this team to spend less than $85M on payroll. That would mean they spend a lower percentage of their revenue on payroll than any other team in baseball. Why is that okay? They make around $320M to $340M in revenue and they start the season with $215M from MLB. Percent of revenue spent on payroll by team Kansas City is spending half their revenue on payroll but Twins fans are supposed to be satisfied with 25%?!
  17. No, that is the name of the article. This is the quote: ""People see dark faces out there, and the perception is that they're African-American. They're not us. They're impostors." That quote is probably more disqualifying for the job. There are very few gay major leaguers but there are a LOT of Latino players with dark skin color. What would the over/under be on insensitive Torii Hunter quotes if he had to do a post-game interview 162 times a year?
  18. Spotrac calculated most of these market values (good a guess as any). The Japanese players I grabbed from wild guesses in articles. Alonso 6 years $176M Murakami 8 years - $200M (could be longer and more money but $25M AAV looks right) Arraez 5 years $70M (no thanks) Okamoto 4 years - $55M Naylor 3 years $45M (this is low, add a 4th season) Diaz 2 years $34M (actual contract is 2 years - $22-24M so $10M excess value) O'Hearn 2 years $22M Hoskins 2 years $14M Mountcastle ($10M arbitration estimate) Bell 1 year $11M (more than double what I expected) Goldschmidt 1 year $7M Santana 1 year $6M Andujar 1 year $6M Moncada 1 year $2M Flores 1 year $2M France 1 year $1.6M The Twins should be interested in any of the guys in bold.
  19. Royce underperforming is one of the things that got Rocco fired. The new manager absolutely must be able to maximize the talent Lewis possesses.
  20. That wasn't the quote I provided. Torii has a tendency to talk first, think later after people point that what he said was dumb. That's a really bad trait for a manager of people. I want a manager who thinks deliberately before acting.
  21. There's an opportunity to buy low here with a contract extension, though I would guess Lewis wants to bet on himself and the Twins want to see a productive season before they offer. His underperformance so far has set his first arbitration award level really low. That will save the Twins some cash even if he becomes an All-Star later (see Joe Ryan).
  22. I think you vastly underestimate what Oliva and Carew understand about hitting.
