  1. Many of the top teams have a solid catcher already. Here is the "demand" side of the ledger for free agent catchers. Biggest holes at C 1) Phillies - Realmuto is a free agent. The Phillies have not hesitated to pay the price to acquire talent from the Twins. 2) Boston - Carlos Narvaez is a good defender but they could use more offense. 3) Rangers - Jeffers for Heim + prospects could be an interesting swap. 4) LA Angels - Logan O'Hoppe is not going to get them to the playoffs Fangraphs just put out their top 50 free agents article. Their crowdsourced contract estimates are: JT Realmuto 2 years $30M Victor Caratini 1 year $6M Danny Jansen 1 year $8M I would still prefer giving Jeffers an extension to any of the free agent or trade options. They have the cash to make it happen.
  2. I don't see them paying both Caratini and Jeffers, but I could see them signing Caratini and trading Jeffers.
  3. Here's a list of players where the arbitration value is higher than perceived value. There may be someone in here that is unwanted by their current employer. Player Name - Team - Arb$ - age - years of control remaining Jonah Heim - Rangers - $6M - 31 - 1 Joey Bart - Pirates - $2.6M - 29 - 2 Jake Rogers - Tigers - $3.25M - 31 - 1 Logan O'Hoppe - Angels $2.75M - 26 - 3 Ben Rortvedt - Dodgers $1.25M - 28 - 3 Connor Wong - Red Sox $1.75M - 30 - 3
  4. It is delusional to think they can punt SS and C and be even a .500 team next season. Those are the positions that separate the contenders from the also-rans. If that's the plan, then I don't see a reason to keep Ryan or Lopez. Going with waiver wire talent or not-ready-yet rookies at those two positions means they're tanking.
  5. Movement, possibly tunneling. Zebby had great command but below average velocity. He upped his velocity over the last offseason and lost a little command. He doesn't need more velocity, now he needs more experience and repetition with his new stuff to control it. If he hits his spots, he's great.
  6. Pete Maki might be the best pitching coach in franchise history.
  7. There is a little depth in the rotation and trading one starting pitcher makes sense. There isn't any at catcher. The only way trading Jeffers makes sense is if they can acquire someone to replace him.
  8. There is also unclear information, which means the market often does not act efficiently.
  9. An article on contract extension candidates for the Twins would be interesting. Here's my list of potential extension candidates Ryan Jeffers Simeon Woods Richardson Taj Bradley Royce Lewis Luke Keaschall Walker Jenkins
  10. I disagree. I think catchers are often undervalued on the free agent and trade markets. I think they can make a big upgrade at a modest cost. They need to chase those upgrades at the margins. Plus, they aren't blocking anyone in the minors. The Twins don't have a catching prospect above A-ball.
  11. Danny Jansen left Toronto in 2024. He spent the last two seasons with Boston, Tampa and Milwaukee. He's from Wisconsin and could be convinced to sign with the Twins if they give him competitive offer.
  12. Toronto has the Gold Glove runner-up Vlad Jr. on the roster. After watching the World Series I think Vlad got robbed by France.
  13. They should be offering Jeffers a contract extension. They can afford to pay him $15M a season for 2027 and 2028. Of course, they should have offered him an extension last offseason and the one before that as well.
  14. I will add, it's especially true if you don't offer contract extensions to your internally drafted and developed talent. Players take a season or two to get established and when they're finally good it's time to trade them for the next round because they're getting expensive in arbitration and losing seasons of team control. Somehow they have to line up all of their draftees and trade acquisitions in a 2-year window where the roster is both talented and cheap at the same time. If you give Falvey 30 years he might be able to do that once.
  15. They shouldn't bring back France. They should find someone else to turn into the next American League Gold Glove winner. Buxton was not snubbed. Rafaela was crazy good, an Andruw Jones caliber season.
  16. DeBarge is a low average hitter without much power. He can hit doubles and stretch a few into triples with his speed. He needs to hit about .277 instead of .237.
  17. The Twins somehow developed Ty France into the American League gold glove winner at first base.
  18. I was actually pleasantly surprised by Pereda - decent hitter and decent thrower. He couldn't hold onto the ball which seems like it is necessary for a catcher. Victor Caratini would be a good addition. I think Joey Bart is gettable in trade. I doubt the Dodgers will keep Ben Rortvedt.
  19. $5M? He's almost certain to be worse next year than he was this year and he was bad this year. $5M is what you pay a catcher who has positive value.
  20. They really don’t. MN has about $325M in revenue and St Louis is $375M. They’re both midmarket teams like Arizona and Detroit.
  21. I would not sign Vazquez for more than $1M and only after the other options are exhausted.
  22. That’s the 1-year contract tier. Above that is a multiyear deal. I would rather see them offer contract extensions to their own players. It’s a better value.
