    Adding on. I looked at his game logs and he didn't pitch for 5 days in a row in August. Fatigue should not be the issue.

    Castro has been far more valuable than Polanco this season. Baseball Reference has Castro as the #1 Twins position player. I agree that Polanco could effectively replace Solano but is that worth $10.5M?

    A guy who has thrown almost 47 innings this season is overworked? No. How low do you want his workload to be?

    They are paranoid about having depth.

    My guess for infielders on the 40 man roster this offseason: Correa, Lewis, Kirilloff, Julien, Willi Castro, Farmer, Gordon, Miranda, Martin, Severino. Does Polanco add $10.5M worth of value as the 11th infielder when his banged up body will give you 80-100 games maximum?

    Yes, because the young guys they were counting on the fill bullpen spots have pretty much all failed.

    I think Polanco has been the player pushing to play a utility role. It's a smart move for him, that's how he'll get his next contract.

    Farmer is the better defender and he's actually available to play most days. He's also a good short side of a 2B platoon with Julien.

    He's not worth $10.5M, there are always similar options available in free agency for less. The Twins are only paying Solano $2M, for example. I wouldn't mind if the Twins bring Polanco back but they should definitely decline his option.

    The "Twins guy" has a .642 OPS in AAA. Lee is AHEAD of almost every other player in the draft. You can't act like the Twins are moving him too slowly.

    A non-contender should be willing to shed some salary to pick up a guy who might be good next season. I don't know why Brent Suter is still on the Rockies roster, for example.

    I would trade any of Henriquez, Sands, Balazovic, Moran, Ortega, Winder for an average veteran reliever. There are only so many roster spots a team can afford to dedicate to "they might be a good reliever someday".

    I don't want Martin sitting on the bench to end the season and I don't see a place for him to start. If I'm just looking for bench speed I'd grab Stevenson. Funderburk is the one guy where there are no development tradeoffs if they bring him up. He's going to get the same number of innings in MLB as in AAA.

    Jax has options remaining but I don't think there is another reliever on the 40 man roster I'd rather have in the bullpen. The choices are Moran, Headrick, Ortega and Henriquez. Maybe Paddack can help in the bullpen but he hasn't even started a rehab assignment yet.

    I disagree that they moved him to the bullpen too late. I'd develop every pitcher I thought had a chance at MLB as a starter for as long as possible just to get them more innings. It is a sure sign that the organization doesn't think much of you if you're relieving in A-ball.

    The Twins are prioritizing the division win over Julien's development at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if Julien had to go back to AAA to work on things as the scouts find holes in his offensive game. Lots of players have had that happen to them.

    Duran is not pitching well lately. It shows how good his stuff is that he can pitch poorly and still do the job but he needs to make some adjustments.

    I know I wouldn't bench Lee against lefties. I'd have to be willing to take those lumps because his production against RH pitching was good enough to let him learn how to hit lefties at the MLB level. Being a switch hitter does change things; it requires more development time if you actually want to develop the hitter from both sides of the plate. Julien's swing doesn't change with a different pitcher on the mound.

    They're using Headrick, Sands, Balazovic and Winder. Varland is as "tried" as any of them.

    They could potentially have Ober, Ryan and Varland ready to piggy-back for each of Lopez, Gray and Maeda. I'm not sure which I would pair with each other.

    I think it would be a waste to use his service time before he's ready to contribute in the big leagues.

    Based on his AA numbers he needs more reps before he's ready to contribute at the MLB level from that side of the plate. There is no sense promoting him if any lefty reliever is going to be able to get him out. They should have learned from Aaron Hicks that switch hitters take longer to develop.
