    He's probably a lost cause then. There is too much to work on to master 2B when you can't catch a thrown ball yet.

    You handle the ball more at 1B but they're easier chances. 2B definitely has more total difficult chances than 1B. Inability to turn a double play is a killer when it comes to defensive value at second. Arraez went from below average 2B to Gold Glove candidate at 1B. It's not that hard.

    Julien is currently unplayable as a second baseman. He fumbles grounders and isn't good enough turning the pivot. Rocco is correct in regularly removing him from the game for a defensive replacement. If he can't handle 1B he's pretty much a DH.

    Does Julien really have trouble receiving a thrown ball? He has trouble with batted balls but that's very different.

    I don't think they like to move recent draft picks out of Fort Myers. They have more resources there for extra training and many of them will be there for fall instructional leagues.

    There isn't that much difference between AA and AAA. The big jumps are from rookie ball to A, A+ to Double A and then the big leagues. Triple A is mainly there to give veteran retreads a place to play.

    Jenkins is a pretty good bet to make it to the Mussels before the season ends. Keaschall is the same age as Rosario and Rodriguez in Cedar Rapids. He should get bumped up to that level but the Kernels infield is pretty full.

    I see no reason to "cut" a journeyman retread pitcher "some slack". This is a big league baseball team trying to win the division, not some bottom division team looking for a Disney movie.

    Boras already got his commission. He has about 100 other clients to worry about.

    He'd be a very member of the playoff rotation. Ryan has been terrible.

    If there were only 21 outs then they would still be playing the game. They had a bunch of hits which means their K/PA ratio was just fine.

    I don't. Julien is currently about 20 runs below average if you extrapolate out a whole season. He doesn't turn the pivot well. He might be able to improve from "poor" to "below average" but the Twins have Brooks Lee waiting in AAA.

    DH doesn't add any difficulty beyond what he's doing at 2B. He already plays on the correct side of the dirt to add 1B. All he has to add is scooping throws. Julien needs to find a home where they won't pull him for a defensive replacement in the 8th inning.

    I think they should be doing that now even with a healthy Joey Gallo. The obvious answer (to me) is to give Julien a first baseman's mitt.

    If Jeffers catches 5 out of 7 games his offense will surely suffer.

    I thought Mauer made a good speech. It was far better than Dan Gladden's drunken ramble about his wife's chest.

    I don't think it would hurt Varland, Headrick or Woods-Richardson to spend the rest of the year in the bullpen. Varland is at 110+ innings pitched on the season. They could give Ortega another chance and add Funderburk if they need a lefty. Beyond that it's probably watching the waiver wire.

    It wasn't even an either/or decision. They had the chance to keep Coulombe and Sands. For some reason they kept the young relievers with options on the Opening Day roster instead of sending them to AAA. That's just foolish. A team will need 10-15 relievers to get through the season. The younger pitchers will get plenty of opportunities. Stockpile depth in the bullpen to start the season.

    The A's have decided to give Ramon Laureano to whoever picks up the contract. The Twins should claim him if someone else doesn't first.

    Part of that is the save stat itself. You can't get a save in the 8th inning but you can get a blown save in the 8th inning. The rest of the bullpen has 55 holds which would mean they have 61 Saves + Holds against 17 Blown Saves.
