  1. It's obvious he's hurt. That's why he's a full time DH.
  2. Diamond Sports stopped making payments to the Padres and rights reverted to MLB. MLB is selling streaming rights for $20/month or $75 for the rest of the season. Here's hoping they stop paying the Twins next.
  3. How many lefties has he faced over the past week? That's the part of his game he needs to work on the most.
  4. Wallner has an awful first step. He can't judge the ball coming off the bat and takes bad routes. He's 25 and has 2000 innings in RF in the minors over 4 seasons. He's unlikely to get a whole lot better. He's not going to steal bases in the majors, they're smart not to spend time on that.
  5. Kepler is a perfectly cromulent major league player. He'd be a great bench player for most teams but he doesn't fit on this roster anymore. They have too many other LH bats who are better. I'd much rather give the playing time to Larnach.
  6. I thought the complaint last season was that Rocco changed the batting order too often and players couldn't get comfortable. Now people are complaining that he doesn't change the lineup enough? THE BATTING ORDER WILL NOT SOLVE ANY ISSUES
  7. I'll bet you're glad Buxton and Correa grounded into those double plays instead of striking out.
  8. I'm just pointing out the silliness of "If I subtract out all the home runs from our home run hitter his stats look bad". There were people who wouldn't vote for Killebrew for the Hall of Fame because he didn't hit .300. Thank goodness we've moved beyond raw batting average as a way to evaluate hitting production.
  9. Harmon Killebrew's RBI numbers look terrible if you subtract all 573 of his HR too. Knocking himself in was 36% of his career RBI. Guess the Killer wasn't good enough either.
  10. 6 of them. Splits are readily available at baseball reference. His numbers with runners on base (.943 OPS) are actually better than with the bases empty (.814 OPS).
  11. Got it. You want him to try for weak grounders instead of HR if there are runners on base. That guarantees he never homers unless bases are empty. It also craters his walk rate. You're not going to change Joey Gallo into Luis Arraez. For what Joey Gallo is you're getting as good as you can expect. You're also getting more from him than you've been getting from Larnach or Kepler.
  12. Gallo has been about as good as can be expected. Higher OBP and OPS+ than Buxton and good defense too. I don't know what more people want from him, he's delivered.
  13. I'm surprised you included them since they both have good batting averages. Polanco would be in the top 40 if he had enough plate appearances to qualify.
  14. I always thought Hicks' switch hitting delayed his development. It's hard to get enough at-bats to develop one swing; a switch hitter needs even more repetition. This is something to consider when people want to put Brooks Lee on a fast track. Lee's numbers as a left-handed batter (.809 OPS) are FAR ahead of his numbers from the right side of the plate (.538 OPS). He hardly ever sees lefthanded pitchers (just 34 plate appearances this year) so that part of his game is going to take longer to develop. If you rush him he'll never develop.
  15. With dry spells up to a decade long when the prospects didn't pan out
  16. The players they are looking at should be pure rentals. Go get two expensive relievers who are about to be free agents. Someone like Buck Farmer from the Reds would be a good addition.
  17. Losing teams generate less WPA than winning teams. Be careful you aren't measuring the teammates performance.
  18. Rocco is doing exactly what the front office asks him to do. Lineups, handling pitchers, etc.
  19. If there's one guarantee with a post-game thread here, that is it.
  20. He's doing EXACTLY what the front office wants him to do.
  21. Well, the Gio Urshela trade was made BEFORE trading Arraez, so unless they had a time machine they couldn't reverse that result. They also traded for Farmer after trading away Urshela and Farmer has been playing better than Urshela. Based on the difference in performance between Farmer and Urshela and the 0.1 WAR produced by Urshela and his empty batting average I'm going to guess the Twins win zero more games with Urshela on the roster instead of Farmer.
  22. From the numbers above, strikeouts are NOT the problem. They have a 30% K rate with the bases loaded (13/43) which is not out of the ordinary. The unusual things to note in those numbers are a) no extra base hits b) extremely low BABIP. If anything that suggests a team that is swinging at the wrong pitches and settling for weak contact instead of finding a pitch they can drive. I also agree that it's hard to find a "team-wide" trend in such a small sample and as you slice the numbers into smaller slices you can find all sorts of weird stuff.
  23. It's generally not a good idea to make your platoon pinch hitting decisions in the 2nd inning. It's also not a good idea to use your pinch hitter to replace your best batter (Kirilloff). This seems desperate for a game in May.
