Lineup A vs RHP Buxton, CF Keaschall, 2B Bell, 1B Wallner, RF Lewis, 3B Larnach, DH Jeffers/Caratini C Lee, SS Martin/Roden LF I expect Martin and Roden to both outperform Kody Clemens at the plate. Clemens can fill in for whoever is injured. LINEUP B vs. LHP Buxton, CF Keaschall, 2B Lewis, 3B Bell, DH Jeffers, C Wallner, RF Caratini 1B Lee, SS Martin LF Wagaman is in St. Paul unless there are a couple injuries. Even then, Caratini is a better hitter than Wagaman. I'm going to guess Bell gets >80 games in the field this season.

There wasn't a team in need of Larnach last July. Contenders are usually looking to add someone better than Larnach.

He's been incredibly disappointing so far. If you pick someone 1-1 you expect them to perform better than Mike Pagliarulo. Here's hoping for a 2.5 WAR season that matches his 162-game average performance over his entire career (.255/.310/.450). Then maybe next year we can try for actual All-Star level production.

It's pretty bleak for Twins in the fantasy rankings. Only Keaschall, Ryan and Buxton stand out. Pos Player Name Rank C Ryan Jeffers 19 C Victor Caratini 32 1B Josh Bell 31 2B Luke Keaschall 10 2B Kody Clemens 28 2B Brooks Lee 32 SS Brooks Lee 36 3B Royce Lewis 14 OF Byron Buxton 14 OF Matt Wallner 73 P Joe Ryan 29 P Zebby Matthews 78 P Bailey Ober 85 P Simeon Woods Richardson 127 P Taj Bradley 134 P Mick Abel 174 RP Tyler Rogers 31 RP Liam Hendriks 42

I don't see a spot for Urshela at all. Wagaman has some experience at 3B - he's your Royce Lewis injury backup.

Making Kody Clemens a backup is a positive step forward for this team. He SHOULD be a backup. Every season we get spring training articles about how there isn't enough room for everyone and every season 20% of the 40-man roster is injured at any given time and they end up playing some guy they just picked up off waivers (like Kody Clemens).

Brooks Lee, starting SS, shows they're deeply unserious about improving their defense. Bell is just another data point.- 43 replies

The dumb headline did make me think about what the most important "first half" seasons were in Twins history. Obviously the 15-game win streak in 1991 was important. 1986 was Tom Kelly's debut as Twins manager with the core already in place for a contender. 2002 was really important, coming off the failed contraction attempt. It's hard to top 1961 as an important first half in MN Twins history.

Minnesota Twins 2026 Position Analysis: First Base

If Kody Clemens is starting and Bell is the DH, does that mean Larnach is sitting on the bench? I think I'd rather have Clemens on the bench, Larnach at DH and Austin Martin in the outfield.- 43 replies

It doesn't take much to be an upgrade on Orlando Arcia. He was the worst shortstop in MLB last season. Ryan Kreidler has a career WAR of -0.7.

I think you'll see Martin ahead of Buxton in the order but Martin will bat 9th with Buxton batting 1st. Buxton, Keaschall, Bell, Lewis, Wallner, Jeffers, Larnach, Lee, Martin

There are other teams who don't have the outfield depth of the Twins. They won't get much but Larnach would make several other teams.

Defense might be what gets Emmanuel Rodriguez onto the roster. He is in basically the same situation Max Kepler was in 2016. If he can play defense like Kepler, then he'll stick around. Rodriguez was better than Outman at AAA last season. There is every reason to believe he's better than Outman right now.
